Whilst I obviously can't knock your commitment, dedication and all that jazz ... but how is this any different to the existing catalog on Bricklink ? Just seems like a duplication of effort to me. :sceptic:

You're right and it is a duplicate.

This is done because members requested such an index.

But how can we make this special?

Do we need to add more info on each minifig?

Does the pictures need to be bigger?

This may seem irrelevant, but an average e-bay or brickset price would be neat. Something like '2009 market price' that could be updated annually (or so). Droids are cheap, Jango Fetts are expensive.

From what I can see, a lot of mini-figures go unsold and are over-estimated online, but, say, I want a figure, it'd be nice to know where a price would start. A lot of Brickset sets are 'no mini-figs' showing that a lot are floating around without sets.

Another thing, to make it the best index, a front and back shot would be good. But that's being a perfectionist :pir_laugh2:

Noted:

Front and back shot

Average sale price

- I'll add those when I get around to working on this again.

Hopefully this weekend.

Thanks, those ideas are great

with bigger pictures and front & back pics then this would certainly be better than Bricklink and very much worthwhile.

If you need any help on photos, feel free to ask.

Good luck! :)

Thanks.

I'm thinking vertical photos, done with a regular baseplate in light grey as background and base.

Fig has to fill as much of the picture as possible.

Attach or deeplink photos in this topic and I'll copy, resize and upload them to one brickshelf folder.

So if anyone has the need to "get to work" then feel free to do so.

I will take the liberty of rejecting yellow or blurry photos - please do not take that as an insult or personally.

I just want this to be the best index around.

So for now, I need:

Photos front and back of the Episode 1 figs in the index in the first post.

Picture must be 1024x768 pixels in size

Pictures must be taken "vertically"

Thanks in advance.

Like this:

sw158.gif

Just with a back shot as well and in the mentioned size.

Having all the pics in the same size, makes resizing them easier.

Oops didn't read the part about you were going to change the pics  . Believe it or not I have base plates in every colour except grey (apart from some old space ones). Shame I would have loved to help with this.

You could have the date it was released.

Don't ask me for the pictures, i'm not good at taking them.

Date of release has been noted.

Thanks

Thank you for this KimT! It's going to kick @*$! And yes, bigger pictures will make it the best Index out here on the web!

Nice to see you around Rayman! I love your work !

The reason I added that picture here, is because there was a price discussion over at Bricklink, where a Ep.3 Clone were listed at $570.

CopMike

Thanks for the comments guys : ).

$570? I can see why they're discussing it over at Bricklink. However my gut feeling about these figures is that they're merely commemorative customs made for a good cause, so they should not receive a separate bricklink entry just for the figures. Anyway I'll provide the background to these figures to help with the discussion. I received the commission from thelittlearmshop - who in turn had permission to produce these figures from LFL and LEGO, in late 2007. The Stormtroopers were to be given to the 501st German Garrison members at the Star Wars show in Germany in December if I recall correctly. Although I am aware that some clones were also given to the GG at that show too.

The Clonetroopers were made for the US arm of the 501st (hence the generic logo). A fun fact to note that one of the early mock ups I made featured a red shock trooper sporting the 501st emblem. However the license only extended to the white clones, which is what you see today. The emblems on the back of each figure is a decal (done in the same fashion as my other customs) with several layers of clear coat to protect the figure. The black ink used for decals has a slight gold tint too, but is rather hard to see due to the clear coat.

Some stats:

Clone Troopers - 600 produced

Stormtrooper - 290 in total, 95 Black Pauldrons, 95 White Pauldrons, 100, Orange Pauldrons produced

I just uploaded some WIP photos onto brickshelf of when these were being made in 2007 - boy I had never seen that many clones or stormies in one place until this job!

501st Figure WIP photos (when public)

KimT, I did do the backs of each figure and the pauldrons (the littlearmsshop kindly supplied all the parts).

I'd be happy to help out, my camera does pretty good on those big close ups, but I don't own a single plate

I'd be willing to take some pics of the figs I have KimT, but do you have any suggestions to reduce the "yellow and blurry" syndrome? I don't have a professional camera or studio, so it might be difficult.

Buy a "blue light" or a "daylight" bulb or do the pictures in sunlight.

Using artificial light (regular lightbulbs) can (and often will) result in yellow pictures.

KimT, you are a courageous person taking on this monumental task! Perhaps I can help somewhere, I only have one light grey baseplate, though I guess I could use plates as well.

I have Sandcrawler figs, plus loads more. Though i I were to dump all these haphazardly on you it would be a nightmare. Perhaps limit people to one movie at a time as far as the collection goes and build it up that way.

Which is why I've asked for episode I figs only for now.

I guess using regular plates for base and background will do just fine.

May I make additional suggestions here?

In the UK we don't get a great deal of sunlight [at least not where I live] and I don't have any daylight bulbs at the moment, so when I take pictures I make sure there's plenty of light in the room using multiple light sources - main light, lamps etc. The model/minifig/scene is often high up on a desk. My camera is mounted on a small inexpensive tripod, so after I've arranged the composition I set the camera on a 2 sec timer and take my hands off - this means the camera is completely still as it takes the shot and should reduce blur as much as possible.

When uploading pics they might be yellowish or tinted with another colour so try adjusting the colour values using a photo manipulation package like Photoshop. There are loads of features and filters that can be easily accessed to do this and you'll be able to adjust the brightness, contrast and shadow levels in your image as well as sharpness if you want it that bit more crisp. It's worth experimenting with it a bit. If you don't have Photoshop there will probably be something else you can get your hands on that works similarly - have a look around.

I haven't actually checked to see what sort of tutorials there are for this on EB, though I think the Reviwer's Academy will most likely have some so it's probably worth your while signing up to that

Hope that helps!

First of all, I really appreciate your work!

You could write about some extraordinary details, as for Qui Gon in 7665 for example.

You could add that there is a right and a wrong face, so the users get a correct knowledge. You might have a look at this list. It's from "Imperium der Steine" ( translated: "Empire of the bricks"), a German homepage I am a mod of.

Hope I could give you some stuff to think about.

Neat idea indeed, especially if you include all the data suggested above.

Somehow it reminds me of this picture I found on BS a while ago. I guess it isn't up to date but still...

img_1210_small.jpg

I think there is one too many qui gon....

And I know there isn't

As Commander 501 said, the other one is the one with Obi Wan's head, but TLC did state that it was a mistake from their sorting machine... Does it mean you're going to include all of those as well (like the snow trooper with the clone trooper torso from 4501)? I'd say it'd make it a bit of a huge task...

EDIT : I just found this one, too. But the pic is huge, so I'll just give the link
