Eilif Posted January 8, 2009 Posted January 8, 2009 I did 5 different search term combinations and didn't find a thread for this so... What was the very first LEGO set you remember getting? One set only, and No Duplo please. If possible please post a pic. You can probably find a pic of it here: www.brickset.com or here: www.bricklink.com As for me, I think there may have been a red suitcase or bucket of bricks that preceeded it, but here is the first set I remember: #730 with the inspiring title (that it shares with several other sets) of "Basic Building Set 7+" Really a neat set. I think I got it when I was 4 for for Christmas of 1985. It was also one of the sets that my wife had when she was a child. I took out the instructions and built the windmill house model a couple of years ago. I'm only 27, but I think I experienced the closest thing to true nostalgia when I put that together. Quote
Sammael Posted January 8, 2009 Posted January 8, 2009 It was likely this one: I still have the vast majority of pieces, too. Quote
CP5670 Posted January 8, 2009 Posted January 8, 2009 There was actually a long thread on this at some point, but it's been a while so another one won't hurt. Mine was this, which I got sometime in 1987 or 1988 at age 1: I have lost some of the pieces from my original copy but got a second, new one off ebay last year. The printed Shell panels are especially nice and are unique to this set. Quote
Bobskink Posted January 8, 2009 Posted January 8, 2009 This is to hard to remeber, I think I got Duplo first, or doesn't that count? Quote
Zorbas Posted January 8, 2009 Posted January 8, 2009 The first Lego set i got (i think 1986) still remember the two firures and the door (it had impressed me, don't know why..) the first Legoland set i got (1987) ...and the wheel started turning... Quote
Faramir Posted January 9, 2009 Posted January 9, 2009 First set was this Yeah... I'm kinda young... Quote
MDupont Posted January 9, 2009 Posted January 9, 2009 Was a cool set. It was first time I ever heard about legos. Quote
Ricecracker Posted January 9, 2009 Posted January 9, 2009 (edited) If my sisters sets count, it would be 6402 Sidewalk Cafe, 6410 Cabana beach, and a few of the buckets. The blue one especially I fit has to be mine, EDIT: It would be these two (I think) -Ricecracker Edited January 9, 2009 by ricecracker Quote
WetWired Posted January 9, 2009 Posted January 9, 2009 I don't know what my first one was but the first I can remember was this one I got for my 5th Birthday Quote
mania3 Posted January 9, 2009 Posted January 9, 2009 I had a brick bucket first, but my first actually minifig scale set was this: I've been a Space fan ever since. I'll always remember it because my dad had taken it out of the box and put it together before he handed it to me. The concept of LEGO being something for me to put together escaped him at first. He was so use to the "some assembly required" type of toy that it didn't quite sink in what kind of toy LEGO was meant to be. Quote
Sir Norman Ray Posted January 9, 2009 Posted January 9, 2009 My first LEGO sets were hand me downs I believe. My brother, 8 years older, suddenly stopped playing with his LEGO (pirates and town mainly) and suddenly I had them. Or they were given to me and he built them. I think that was the case later when I bought LEGO sets, he'd build them for me. I'm gonna say Eldorado Fortress and Carribian Clipper, as those are probably the one's I remember most from that time. In recent times, the first LEGO set I got in the new era was probably the Indiana Jones Race for the Stolen Treasure. Not including the large amount of Redcoats bought on Ebay for my Regiament *cough* Quote
Yeow Posted January 9, 2009 Posted January 9, 2009 The first set I remember actually playing with was 6345 Aerial Acrobats. I love those planes.. I also received 1896 Trauma Team around the same time. Quote
Eilif Posted January 9, 2009 Author Posted January 9, 2009 Wow, there's some great sets and great memories so far. 6659 and 6345 Arial Acrobats, really took me back. Keep them coming. Quote
Draykov Posted January 9, 2009 Posted January 9, 2009 My very first LEGO set was 485 Fire Truck. I received it as a gift somewhere between 1979 and 1982. Once Space hit the scene, I was hooked for life. Quote
fugglewyg Posted January 9, 2009 Posted January 9, 2009 (edited) I remember my gran bought me my first set when we went to cheltenham for a visit one day. it was.... Edited January 9, 2009 by fugglewyg Quote

Zarkan Posted January 9, 2009 Posted January 9, 2009 (edited) Well, I can't quite remember very well, but my first set was probably 6331 Patriot Jet: I'm not 100 percent sure about this, but I'm certain at least that this was one of my very first lego kits. A very sweet eldery couple that my family knew when living in Pennsylvania gave this kit to me, and I think it really started my interest in the hobby. Edited January 9, 2009 by Grevious Quote
SkyOtic Posted January 9, 2009 Posted January 9, 2009 I remember my gran bought me my first set when we went to cheltenham for a visit one day. it was.... whoa! that was the first set I received too! and it was from my gran too! you have to be my twin... Quote
AndersI Posted January 9, 2009 Posted January 9, 2009 AFAIR, it was this one, around 1960 - (Picture from peeron - http://www.peeron.com/inv/sets/310-5) Quote
Bobskink Posted January 9, 2009 Posted January 9, 2009 susch a retro building. after some thinking I think my first set was this one: I did have some space and basic, but those were from my older half brother, at the time I wasn't alowed to play with them. (picture from bricklink) Quote
frogstudio Posted January 9, 2009 Posted January 9, 2009 Mi first set was 6607 and it was a present from my grand father when i was about 7. At that time, Lego were quite uncommon in Argentina and you could only get some of the tiny sets. I still have it complete with its instructions and is one of the set I love most. Quote
Pencoin Posted January 9, 2009 Posted January 9, 2009 (edited) I had a little tub of LEGO bricks filled with random since before I was born, but my first set: The beginning of an obsession. Edited January 9, 2009 by Pencoin Quote
JimBee Posted January 9, 2009 Posted January 9, 2009 It's hard to say for certain, because I probably got a few Duplo or basic sets when I was a young child, but the first one that I remeber would be this: or this: I'm thinking it's the Star Wars set, since it was released before the Robo Riders one. Quote
Peppermint_M Posted January 9, 2009 Posted January 9, 2009 These three were my earliest proper Lego. I cannot remember my first as they were duplo and I was too small. (Plus the one set I remember getting has no pictures on brickset...) Quote
