Etzel Posted January 9, 2009 Posted January 9, 2009 This was my first System set: I can't remember when I got it but I think all parts are still there although heavily scratched and discoloured. Quote
Johnnhiszippy3 Posted January 9, 2009 Posted January 9, 2009 The first set that I remember getting (I only remember because I've seen pictures of myself playing with it on Christmas) was the Light and Sound Hook and Ladder fire truck. My older brother got the Light and Sound Mobile Police Truck that same Christmas. Mine is still built and the lights still work! (Thanks to the high quality of Lego) Brickset shows that this set was released in 1985 - so I would have been one or two years old when i got it...I doubt it's recommended for that age group. Quote
Skipper 24 Posted January 10, 2009 Posted January 10, 2009 My first set was this. I really love the minifig included. I think i got this for my 3rd birthday. Wasn't there already a thread for this though? Quote
5150 Lego Posted January 10, 2009 Posted January 10, 2009 Well i recieved alot of hand-me-down buckets and such from my brothers, but the first set i remember getting was this for christmass... I remember seeing it wrapped up under the tree and wondering what it was. It was one of my all time favorite sets! Quote
SeaKing61 Posted January 10, 2009 Posted January 10, 2009 (edited) The first set I remember owning and building myself is the 6515 Octan Stunt Helicopter in 1994 when I was 6, but I'd been playing with my brother's lego for years. I think the first big set I built all by myself was the 6949 Spyrius Robo Guardian, also from 1994 Laurie Edited January 10, 2009 by SeaKing61 Quote
Peppermint_M Posted January 10, 2009 Posted January 10, 2009 All I can add now is: This thread will really show peoples ages! If you take into account that many parents thought it safe to give their kids lego post 5 and the fact that you can grasp vague recollections to quite an early age then the year the sets you remember having first (or have photgraphic evidence of ownership) were released in is when you were between the ages of lets say 4-7. CP5670 Posted January 10, 2009 Posted January 10, 2009 For the set I mentioned, I basically went by my parents' memory. I liked cars in general and wanted any car related toys back then. I don't remember building that particular set, although I can recall many things from age 3 onward, including where exactly I built each set for the first time. Quote
Dr. X Posted January 10, 2009 Posted January 10, 2009 (edited) The first one I can remember getting is The RES-Q command center in like 1998 or something, when I was a wee boy of 5. I'm pretty sure I had some DUPLO before that, though. Edited January 10, 2009 by Dr. X Quote
mrchris Posted January 11, 2009 Posted January 11, 2009 I think it was maybe this, although it was actually my sisters, but possibly i had smaller sets before that i dont remember when i recieved Quote
timbutnice Posted January 11, 2009 Posted January 11, 2009 It was 670 Mobile crane way back in 1978 cheers, timbutnice Quote
yellost Posted January 11, 2009 Posted January 11, 2009 Mine was 6061. My paretns gave it to me for christmas when I was 5. But it was a second hand set without the instruction and box (but it was already built). I only found out recently which set it was. Unfortunately, I've lost most of the figs and accessories and a few pieces... Now I'm trying to find it again on eBay or something, but boy, it goes for quite a steep price nowadays... Quote
alexrider7 Posted January 11, 2009 Posted January 11, 2009 my first set was this one. I can't really remember when I got it, or how old I was. All I can remember is that I built it mostly wrong and about 2 years later, I built it all right! Quote
Mikael Willberg Posted January 11, 2009 Posted January 11, 2009 (edited) I checked my photo album and the first photo from year 1973 portraits me (2 years old) and a Lego set 377 I most likely had something before that, but the memories of that time are vague At the same photosession I am also playing with BrioMec. To those who do not know them they are owersized wooden technic beams with nuts and bolts. This image looks more modern set than the one at the picture My firstborn is (hopefully) arriving in february, so let's see what his first set will be. I think dad has no problem of getting some bigger sets to "him" later on Mig Edited January 11, 2009 by Mikael Willberg Quote
bamaker Posted January 13, 2009 Posted January 13, 2009 Since I'm nearing 40 years, my memory of my childhood toys is quite fuzzy when it comes to the order of toys received and did the toy belong to me or my brother. That being said my first LEGO set was either: 709 Police Boat 462 Mobile Rocket Launcher or 442 Space Shuttle I'm inclined to say the Police Boat actually belonged to my brother, and I may have received the two Space sets at the same time. But all three sets were played with for many years, and were the cornerstones to a lifelong enjoyment of LEGO. Quote
Thee Pirate Posted January 15, 2009 Posted January 15, 2009 1974: Smuggler's Hayride 6245: Harbor Sentry 6265: Sabre Island 6661: Mobile TV Studio I don't actually remember which one of those sets it was... but I know it was one of them. I also have 1 set that is older than those, but I know I got that set later, it was either a set my dad bought for himself, or he bought it on sale and gave it to me.. The only sets that I still have all the pieces for, even if neither one is still put together is Sabre Island and Harbor Sentry... but I don't have the figure for Harbor Sentry anymore. I probably traded him away for a minifig Soldier with a Shako. Actually, the Harbor Sentry boat is put together I don't believe I have the windows for 6661, but I know I still have the pieces for the camera, and those printed TV sides. I don't have that minifig anymore I have everything from the Smuggler's Hayride, except the Forestman. I have no idea what happened to him, but he's long gone.. I either lost him, or he got swiped by one of my friends :-/ Quote
donneyboy Posted January 21, 2009 Posted January 21, 2009 Either this- or this- The Speeder Bikes I think I got for my 6th or 7th B-day, and the police boat I got for Christmas from my aunt. Quote
Capt. Kirk Posted February 12, 2009 Posted February 12, 2009 This was my first Lego set ever... and I still have it. Quote
Millacol88 Posted February 12, 2009 Posted February 12, 2009 The earliest set I can remember, and definitely my first Star Wars one. Quote
Runninglizard55 Posted February 12, 2009 Posted February 12, 2009 (edited) i think my first was 6534: beach bandit i think i got it when i was about 5 or 6 and i still have it complete. my first big set was 6389: fire control center, my dad is a firefighter so naturally i loved anything that was fire related so lego was perfect for me...also my favorite fire station on another note one of my favorite sets is the 6581: dig n dump mainly because it was the last christmas present that i ever recieved from my grandfather(he died shorty after christmas), it is still complete and kind of my memorial to him Edited February 12, 2009 by Runninglizard55 Quote
Majek Posted February 12, 2009 Posted February 12, 2009 My first set was this one: 6673-1: Solo Trainer I still have it..... ~Majek Quote
Algernon Posted February 12, 2009 Posted February 12, 2009 For awhile, I just played with my older brother's LEGO collection, so it's hard to say; I'm pretty sure though, the first set that was truly MINE is: Quote
Raphy Posted February 13, 2009 Posted February 13, 2009 (edited) http://www.brickset.com/detail/?Set=1702-1 This, I think. I'm not ooooone hundred percent sure, but what I remember this was my first set (I know I got some Duplo before that, but that doesn't count, does it?) I remember it was cheap, and a promo ancient fire set. Anyway, I loved that thing. That's where my love of legos started...... *sigh...* *sob!* Ah, good times.... It's hard to remember so far back.... btw go 50th post!!!! Edited February 13, 2009 by Raphy Quote
