That (6521) was the first set my brother got :)

And on the very same day I got this beauty:

Boy, was I happy! I was dreaming of Lego for a couple of years already but couldn't get it. It wasn't that simple in Poland to buy Lego before we regained freedom in 1989. You had to have some USD or other western currency. For Polish "zloty" you wouldn't get any set. There was a chain of stores called Pewex, where you could spend some foreign currency to buy such stuff. I used to go there several times a week to stare at lego and image I had at least one, even small set. And then my father went to Unites States for a couple of weeks for a business trip. As I learned later my mum told him she won't let him in the flat if he doesn't bring Lego for his boys :)

I was Lego maniak before I had Lego... so I got the biggest set, my brothers got the car above and a set with two policemen on motorbikes. The Basic 720 was a brilliant thing. It contained all the pieces required to build almost everything. A house, car, boat, plane, train, whatever you wished, just some imagination was required. That's it. I played a lot with it for the years to follow. As a result my only minifig lost its face printing, face become loose, legs not stiff anymore. All trans clears became milky and so on... you get the picture ;)

And then, the transformation came :) in 1989 we became free again from Russia, the market changed rapidly, Lego started to flow in and you could pay with our currency in Pewex'es. But that is a different story ;) I'll just say, that the smallest M-Tron set began the long list of sets to follow my first one :)

I'd like to believe it was 1638 Basic Bucket (Blue) or 715 Basic Building Set form 1990, me being 3 going on 4 then. Then there was 1896 Trauma Team from 1992. I remember playing with all three as a child but can't pin point the year I actually started receiving sets. All of the pieces were eventually used in childhood MOCs, so I ended up repurchasing 715 and 1896 a couple years ago :classic:

I wish I could remember my very fist set, but my parents started buying LEGO for me when I was really young. I have a few very old sets, like the classic yellow castle, a few classic space sets from the late 70s, but if I had to guess I think my first one was 588, Police Headquarters. A few years ago I went back to my parents' house and retrieved all my old LEGO, and found I still had all but a few pieces from the set and the other old ones from my childhood.

My first set to play with was the 1974 Building set no. 125. I loved it even though I couldn't get the hang of building "brick style" for the longest time ( I kept stacking the 2x4 pieces on top of one another and wondered why my roof wouldn't slant and my walls kept falling down!)

The first set actually bought for me was no.540 Swiss Chalet in 1973 but my mother wouldn't let me have it until years later because she liked it too much!
