Hello everybody! :sweet:

Some time ago CopMike offered us to send him a mail with ideas for new themes (not Castle, not City and no licensed theme). Since this chance stopped/stopps today I thought that it would be really interesting which theme you proposed or would have proposed if you had time to write a proposal.

Since it's imo obvious that there'll be a new historical theme in 2011 I limited this poll (and even this topic) to new historical themes. Why I do think that there'll be a new historical theme?! - In 2007 we got the new "Castle" theme, this year (2009) the new Pirates theme - so there seems to be a new historical theme every two years.

But now to the poll: I know that it'll be difficult to vote since I limited the vote to only one but lots of you (me included) surely would like several of these possible new historical themes. (But it wouldn't make sense to be aible to vote for several themes because then we'd surely get no clear result.)

So please vote for the one you'd like the most!

Here a short description of possible new historical themes:

Stone Age:

hunter-gatherer, mammoths, caves, ...

Egypts:

Egypts, tomb raiders (at the time when there was the heyday of Egypt with the built of pyramides, ...), buildings (pyramides, temples, tombs, ...), vehicles (ship of the dead pharaoe, ...), ...

Greeks without fantasy:

Greeks, buildings, war stuff (Trojan horse, ...), vehicles (trireme, ...) ... - but no fantasy elements and fantasy creatures

Greeks:

same like the on before - but less buildings but would include fantasy elements and fantasy creatures

Romans without fantasy:

Romans, buildings (Colosseum, Citcus Maximus, Roman villa, ...), war stuff, vehicles ("racing car", ...), ... - but no fantasy elements and fantasy creature

Romans:

same like the on before - but less buildings but would include fantasy elements and fantasy creatures

Jungle folk:

jungle people, wild animals, little huts, ...

Incas/Mayas/Aztecs:

Incas/Mayas/Aztecs, buildings (pyramides, ...), war stuff, ...

Incas/Mayas/Aztecs and conquerors:

Incas/Mayas/Aztecs, conquerors, buildings (pyramides, colonial buildings, ...), war stuff, vehicles (conquerors' ships, ...), ...

Wild West:

cowboys, soldiers, bandits, settlers, farmers, miners, buildings (saloon, farm, post office, train station, sheriff's office, ...), war stuff (canons, ...), vehicles (stage coach, covered waggon, ...), ... - but no fantasy elements and fantasy creatures

Ghost Town:

same like the on before - but less buildings but would include fantasy elements and fantasy creatures

Indians:

Indians, tepees, war stuff, vehicles (canoes, ...), ...

Mexicans:

Mexicans, buildings (Mexican houses, ranch, ...), vehicles, ...

Other:

Please explain your idea in your comment!

So please vote!

Comments are welcome! :sweet:

I was a mythology geek when I was younger (and that knowledge still hasn't gone anywhere from my head), so of course I'd choose the Greek Mythology theme! I can just imagine it... Daring heroes, fickle gods, centaurs, satyrs, nymphs, pegasi, chimaeras, cyclopes... And all sets would shine in the colors of white, gold, green and sky blue!

I would like something in the pirate age but land based, after the current castle time and before the industrial and modern times.

With markets and farms as well as... villages...

I guess the current theme is taking care of that, so, i would like to see, roman - no fantasy. the Colosseum would be a great build.

Regards, Cpt. PB

An Ice Age(maybe stone age don't know)Theme with tents, mammoths, whooly rhino's, giant deer, hunters, neanderthals, stone caves

Ice fishing sets and stuff like that.

I would love to see Lego being more adventurous with new themes instead of sets like pirates and castle over and over again.

The only thing with a historical theme is that it has to be able to be marketed world-wide. I know that the Wild West was a US-based theme, but it was still something everyone knows about. None on your list are necessarily US only, but others might be.

I would love to see a Stone Age theme, it is something that LEGO never have done before. I imagine a theme much like the Vikings, human vs. beasts. But I fear that LEGO wouldn't be accurate enough with the details. :hmpf_bad:

All the other options is very interesting to, especially Egypts, Greeks and Romans (with or with out fantasy).

WILD WEST ..

very different mini figs, detailed accessories and many many many buildings, maybe will be as many as CITY buildings..

I voted Incas/Mayas/Aztecs and conquerors.

But Stone age, Greeks, Romans and Egypt would be great as well.

I'd have to go with Greek and their myth.

It's basically a child's imagination! Big big baddies, valiant heroes. A struggle of good and evil.

Aztecs would better be suited for the Pirates.

Some XVI or XVII centuries theme would be awesome...

I'd be pleased with any of those. I think Cavemen and Greek Mythology would be my top choices though. With Greeks maybe we could get a Circe and Odysseus set with some pigs.

Steve

I think I would enjoy a Feudal Japan Theme, with less focus on the ninjas, as cool as they are, and more focus on the actual military. The samurai could be distinct like the knights in the Fantasy Era. Would love to see a giant castle for a ninja to sneak into, though.

Wow...all of those themes would be cool! But Lego needs to finish what it started in the late 90's and give us more Western!

There are really a lot of exciting theme ideas here.

Although I voted for Incas/Mayas/Aztecs and conquerors - I'd like to see most of it

I voted Egypt, we could get new robe/skirt/tunic pieces, animals to be hunted, cool chariots, and maybe some boats and pyrmaids.

It wouldn't have to be human vs. human, the Egyptians could go hunting in their sweet chariots, or there could be a ship builder set, a papyrus marsh, craftsmen's huts, anything!

As for what might actually be produced, a Greek mythology line would work well with younger kids, and I would like it too!

But I prefer Egypt.

Thank you all very much for your votes and comments so far! :sweet:

It's great to see so many people being interested in this poll!

I must say that I supposably had the same problem like many of you, too: I listed a lot of proposals which would surely be great themes. But to vote for more than one would make no sense. So it was a hard decision. But there's always one theme which you prefer more than all the other theme which themselves you prefer over all possible themes.

So I voted for:

Wild West

I really did like the Western theme of 1996/97 - it was a great theme with great sets, excellent buildings and locations, amazing vehicles and brilliant minifigs!

But regrettably TLG stopped continuing it  . So I hope that TLG will continue this theme or release a new Western theme - both would be fine with me! :classic:

But the most important thing would be - if TLG hopefully releases some new WW sets - that they do really not forget to release a lot of sets which they regrettably missed in the WW theme of 1996/97: a Western train with train station, a saloon, a stage coach with post office and a farm! Of course there'd be many, many other sets which could and should be released, too (e. g. a mine, a gold wash, an apartment house, a church with grave yard, a mercantile, ...) - but these are the imo most important ones!

But of course I'd be interested in some of the other themes, too. Here is my ranking:

1. Wild West

2. Ghost Town

3. Romans without fantasy

4. Egypts

5. Indians

The other themes are interesting, too, but I'm not that interested in them.

Interesting topic Klaus. I voted for just Wild West. I've said this before, but I'd love to see Lego offer a large Wild West town with a few buildings (larger than Gold City Junction).

Sort of like the old classic set, 365 Wild West Scene, but with Wild West theme-sized buildings and maybe a train running through it.

I've also been a collector of Western Playmobil (don't shoot me) over the years, and Playmobil retired their Western sets many years ago. They brought one set back for their 30th Year Anniversary in 2004/2005, and have still offered a few sets since.

I'd even love to see Lego do the same with a new Legend set - sort of a "return to the theme", but a completely new set.

A Ghost Town would be my 2nd choice. (and it's great to see a few people voting for this theme).

In terms of other historic themes, Playmobil is now making an Egyptian Theme, after offering Romans for a few years. I really would not be surprised if Lego jumped on the thought as well and offered one of these two themes. The same thing happened with Vikings.

I totally agree with you, TheBrickster!

TLG should "rerelease" the WW theme of 1996/97 - but in a completely new "color": Imo the theme should more focue on civilian stuff than on army stuff. And the houses should of course be two floors big! Ohterwise the old theme was great and there is not more to complain about it!

I guess the current theme is taking care of that, so, i would like to see, roman - no fantasy. the Colosseum would be a great build.

I totally agree with you, Cpt. Pegleg Blockbeard!

A Colosseum - or at least something which looks similar to that - would be amazing! But I doubt that if TLG releases a Roman theme they'd release a Colosseum at all. And if yes, than I highly that it'll be a really nice and architectual very fitting building with great minifigs (gladiators, Cesar and soldiers) and wild animals. :sceptic: I'll comment on that more precisely later.

When you look at our poll (at least which results it shows until now) then Egypts wouldn't be that demanded by us fans. But Romans are.

Lego releases this year a new Pirates theme in more or less classic style. Playmobil did some years before. So I agree: The chances are very high for a Roman theme. I'll comment on that more precisely later, too.

I know a theme! It's historical and also bit of a legend.

Atlantis, the sunken city, maybe lego discovery sets with things like the first people contacting new continents, or animals.

Early england with things like druids, and stonehenge.

I would switch that to "It's a legend and also a bit of history"

Just joking! I think it's a great idea. In a Atlantis theme we would be able to get a mix of different mythologies, although most likely Greece. I also think, if not used as an own, that Atlantis could be a great sub-theme for the Adventure theme.

Well, you got me going Ptrickvdmeer. I came up with another historical/legend theme (that has indeed been discussed earlier but not in this thread): Arabian Nights!

That would be a great theme with sultans, genies, robbers and lots of buildings with fantastic architecture. A lot of important molds are already existing like the scimitar, turban and the onion dome. It would also be a good move from LEGO to help fighting all the islamophobia that seems to have struck the world. :hmpf_bad:
