I will be in London for a couple days later this week and with the pound being rather weak against the Euro at the moment I was wondering if I should go and pick up a couple of LEGO sets while I'm there.

The problem is I don't really know any stores downtown London. The official LEGO Shops unfortunately are all not in the city and it's too late to order online and ship to the hotel now... So any recommendations which retail locations are worth checking out?

Thanks!

Cheers.

unfortunately stock is quite low in the shops i know of, argos may have some stock of new sets when the new catalogue is out on monday so worth a look if your still here then.

depending on the spare time you have you can get the train to one of the lego stores. You can get to bluewater in about an hour, same for milton keynes.

What about Harrods ? Isn't that the name of the old famoues shopping "center".

I'm not a Londoner, but I remember visiting in 2005, and had a walk around the toy section there, and if my memory serves me well, I think they had lots of Lego.

Maybe their prices are higher than at other places.

There's also Hamley's at 188 Regent Street in the city centre - I'm not sure what their prices are like on Lego, but they tend to mark up a lot of other stuff. Their online prices seem in line with RRPs.

In central London? You may find an Argos or a toystore if you're lucky, but I wouldn't count on finding much beyond the most basic City and Bionicle stuff anywhere else. You're more likely to get the aforementioned stores in smaller city and town centres. London's centre is just too big for the smaller retailers, and the more "suburban" ones (supermarkets, shoe shops, Argos, Ikea e.t.c.).

Steer well clear of Hamleys and Harrods. They nearly double the price of some things! I'm not sure that Harrods actually sells Lego - just posh pet food and self-playing pianos...

Yes, but you can bow your head at the shrine of Dodi and Diana on the ground floor :hmpf:

Actually, Harrods do sell Lego but that store is almost impossible to navigate for the casual shopper. Take a map!

about 30% higher than RRP. sometimes they have offers that say 25% off and they are still dearer than elsewhere.

I'd definitely go for one of these options ... the travel time is the same for Brighton too.

I've never found any Lego in London at reasonable prices!

Brighton has the added advantage of being somehwere where you can have a day out (albeit its a more summer oriented destination).

Very easy to get to - you can get express trains from London Victoria that only have a few stops (there may even be a direct non stop train).

Well, I was at Harrods in october and they had plenty of LEGO. The prices were similar to those on S@H (pound/euro was 1:1,3 then) so I think that Harrods is not such a bad choice for buying LEGO.It's easy to find , near subway and all in all a very interesting shop to see.

There's always Woolworths! Doh they went bust :-)

Hamleys for example in store, A £90 RRP set will be on their shelves for around £100

John Lewis on Oxford street normally has a small selection of Lego,

Biggest problem is at this time of year the shops have not yet stocked up with the new sets. An official Lego shop is your only real option as everyone else has already commented, in the good ol days we had one in Kingston, just on the outskirts of Central London, sadly this went the same way as Wooly's.
