mrchris Posted January 17, 2009 Posted January 17, 2009 I meant smaller buildings in the style of Cafe corner. Not bright yellow houses with no detail. I wouldn't like them to be replacements of a bigger set either, but add-ons.EDIT: I forgot to add. I would still like to see the same amount of detail, but in a smaller building. Of course all of this is hypothetical as smaller sets in this "line" won't be produced, so there is no need to get so up in arms about a thought. Market street is as close to this as you will get then, so its possible a similar building and price range will come out thats also a 32x16 building rather than 32x32 (i dont count the side bit on marketstreet!). lots of the suggestions in this thread would work well as a half width building.
mania3 Posted January 18, 2009 Posted January 18, 2009 I'm definitely of the mindset that these need to stay as is, high pricepoint, high piece count, and high quality. I have all three and I love them.
Freddie Posted January 18, 2009 Posted January 18, 2009 My love of these buildings is based on the techniques used in them, and the highly creative use of pieces. They're not just a model, they're inspirational and beautiful, and to some extent, also historical - it was afterall an AFOL (after getting hired); Jamie Berard - who pitched his idea to LEGO, with the Café Corner acting as a trial-model to check interest, with the major sales point being rare pieces and colors and outstanding design, that no parents can just point at and call "a child's toy-set". And with that said, I'm expecting this year's modular building to feature more of the same. And after somehow ending up with two CCs and GGs, I'll prolly get two of this year's as well. BTW; I don't really consider Market Street as a part of the series, as it was designed with a different philosophy behind it: its modularity and interchangability; the way how the two buildings can be restacked to give a pair of new buildings. Its still a noble design aspect, but it makes it stand out from the other two (three!).
Johnnhiszippy3 Posted January 27, 2009 Posted January 27, 2009 Whatever type of building this ends up being, I think it will be a corner building (like Cafe Corner). It would make sense since it was originally designed as a set of three buildings - a corner building would "finish" the lineup (although I hope after the third one the lineup isn't finished!) I could see the third building being an ice cream store - it's not exactly "food" and Lego already makes popsicles and ice cream scoops. (the 2008 City Advent Callender was the only 2008 set that I'm aware of that had ice cream scoops, so may it is a foreshadow - like the jester in the Castle Callender is in a new 2009 Castle set). An ice cream store is also something kids would love! I kind of hope it isn't an ice cream store though, because I've already turned the first floor of my Cafe Corner into a soda fountain... A fire station would be great. I already have a square in my layout set aside for a modular-type fire station!

It would make sense since it was originally designed as a set of three buildings - a corner building would "finish" the lineup I think it would be fitting to end the series on another corner building as well. I doubt it will be a modular fire station. It doesn't really fit with the 'theme' of detailed City buildings as far as I can tell. We have also seen plenty of great fire station MOCs that are close to or even designed for the modular CC standard, and I don't think Jamie Berard would want to do something similar to what others have produced. Both CC and GG were new and startling, using rare colours and pieces; I hope we will get something similarly innovative. We had seen pics by this time last year. Hopefully there will be news of some exclusives soon.
Razzer Posted January 28, 2009 Posted January 28, 2009 Yes, I would love to see more buildings of this style although I still haven't gotten around to buying any of them yet and am currently deciding whether to buy cafe corner or the green grocer.

Razzer, I own both. They are super. If you can afford both, do it. Otherwise, if you just wanna get one, go for the Green Grocer. It has a lot of cool features on the inside. The Café Corner has nothing in the inside. It is still a great set but for the inside, I favor Green Grocer.
eti Posted January 28, 2009 Posted January 28, 2009 It hope it will be another one in rare colors. Sand red is my absolute favorite, but a dark green house would be a winner, too.

Seeing that have allready had blue, green and brown/red I suspect it will be tan... But I could be wrong of course... Dr. Brick
sarabob Posted January 29, 2009 Posted January 29, 2009 Glad I'm not the only one itching for number three :-) Personally I'm expecting something with pillars - Jamie has tutorials on pillars on the lego website, and his town hall had them too. Oh, and it has to be alliterative. Soda shop? Tan Tanner? Orange Office? Busted Bank?
Siegfried Posted January 29, 2009 Posted January 29, 2009 I'd skip a bank for a couple of years if I was TLG. Just an opinion, but I don't think people are all that happy with banks right now, and that's a pretty world-wide situation. I thought a bank was the plan... but I can't remember where I heard that. I can't see a firehouse happening unless it was at a higher price point, but I'd like to see it. My preferred idea would ba a LEGO store! But there are other options; Libary/bookstore City Hall (My bets are on this) Marina (2 story building with dock!) Train station Post office
Shadows Posted January 29, 2009 Posted January 29, 2009 I thought a bank was the plan... but I can't remember where I heard that. I believe one was shown as part of the initial "modular" announcement. It was nice but a little drab as I recall. I can't see a firehouse happening unless it was at a higher price point, but I'd like to see it. I could see it possible for less than Green Grocer. My preferred idea would ba a LEGO store! I'd take that. I'd also take a generic store with a private detective's office over it and the introduction of a decent window system finally. I'm going to build that one myself, eventually. Hope we have a dark bley fedora by then. But there are other options; Libary/bookstore City Hall (My bets are on this) Marina (2 story building with dock!) Train station Post office I think most of those would be more than the firehouse, except the post office or a basic bookstore, which would be similar in price. I'm pretty much happy with whatever they do as long as it's modular quality as opposed to Market Street (Factory) quality. Just didn't impress me like the others.
Siegfried Posted January 29, 2009 Posted January 29, 2009 I believe one was shown as part of the initial "modular" announcement. It was nice but a little drab as I recall. ...and after an hour of searching I might note though that in an interview in Brick Journal he said; I've already finished the sketch of the potential follow-up model. I'd love to seeit make it to market. Implying he had only one other planned at the time. (I wonder if "market" was a joke...) I could see it possible for less than Green Grocer. I was seeing it coming with a truck. Were you? I'd also take a generic store with a private detective's office over it and the introduction of a decent window system finally. I'm going to build that one myself, eventually. Hope we have a dark bley fedora by then. That would be very nice. (From what I've heard though the last of the new windows will be a 2 wide-3 high one to replace the train window. )
Dr. Brick Posted January 29, 2009 Posted January 29, 2009 Libary/bookstoreCity Hall (My bets are on this) Marina (2 story building with dock!) Train station Post office I doubt it will be a City Hall, seeing that we had one in the Town Plan. And I don't think it will be a train station or a Marina, because that would be hard to connect to Café Corner or Green Grocer... I hope the Post Office! Dr. Brick
DJ Force Posted January 30, 2009 Posted January 30, 2009 A City Hall would be marvellous. I know we had one in Town Plan, but Town Plan just isn´t compatible to the modular concept without altering it a lot. Or is it?
arnoldtblumberg Posted February 2, 2009 Posted February 2, 2009 Having seen those early building examples, I'm now thinking the next one would be sand/beige predominantly. We've had Cafe Corner - brown/red Market Street (I know, but still) - shades of blue Green Grocer - duh So what's left in the basic colors except a toned-down variant of yellow? I think a Post Office would be superb. But another corner building as well.
BlueBard Posted February 2, 2009 Posted February 2, 2009 Having seen those early building examples, I'm now thinking the next one would be sand/beige predominantly. Remember we have a "Creator" sand/beige house yet... But you never know! A beige new buiding would be cool, or maybe yellow/beige? I think a Post Office would be superb. But another corner building as well. I agree on the second one! I think we all want to know how the street ends so, what about the other corner, TLC?
arnoldtblumberg Posted March 9, 2009 Posted March 9, 2009 Anyone have any other news/sightings of the revelation now on bricktowntalk.blogspot.com that the next modular building has been seen in a LEGO store and it's a dark red fire station?
prateek Posted March 9, 2009 Posted March 9, 2009 like this one (albeit MOC not official)....Brickshelf there was a thread on this somewhere round here in the last few months... cheers, timbutnice thats awesome, they should make something like this
Ricecracker Posted March 9, 2009 Posted March 9, 2009 thats awesome, they should make something like this I believe that the creator of that MOC actually posted that on our site here.
Freddie Posted March 9, 2009 Posted March 9, 2009 A firestation, eh? Hmm, I'm kinda dissapointed. I was hoping for another civilian building, but, oh well. Time will tell if I find it worth my money.
Derek Posted March 9, 2009 Posted March 9, 2009 A non-childish firestation would be nice, with some dark red. The city hall would be cool too, it looks like it could be less than $50.
Svelte Posted March 9, 2009 Posted March 9, 2009 If this is true, let's hope they sort the dark red colour issue out before it hits production. It seems to be more orangey-reddy-brown than dark red these days (compare the small dark red curved slopes in 10193 with older runs of the same part to see what I mean). A fire station is not the most inspirational idea. I wonder what it will mean in terms of interior detail.
Carbohydrates Posted March 10, 2009 Posted March 10, 2009 I think a fire station would be great. Dark red, though. To me, the best accent color for that would be tan, which would put it dangerously close to Cafe Corner's color scheme. Looking forward to seeing where they're going with this one. Oh, and I sure hope it has an interior. That's what ended my internal debate on whether to buy Green Grocer or Cafe Corner!
DJ Force Posted March 10, 2009 Posted March 10, 2009 If theres a set presented in stores, why doesn´t anyone take a photo of it? Even a crappy mobile cam photo would be okay. Just so we all can see a glimpse of what to expect. Anyway. A Fire Station was the least thing I wanted to buy, because I wanted to build my own one and my city doesn´t really need two. Still, I´m going to buy it and alter my own design to another building
