Zorro Posted January 17, 2009 Posted January 17, 2009 Thanks for this great Avatar competition, Hinckley, I will enjoy watching the entries. I like the three MOCs I've seen so far, so well done Athos and 3D Brickthing ! Keep them coming guys! Quote
Shadows Posted January 17, 2009 Posted January 17, 2009 That barrel intrigues me. can we get some sort of story posted about where these pieces specifically came from? Aside from my general description earlier, it pretty much never happens. Once or twice I've read where one of the LEGO park builders has mentioned that a part had been made for them to use in a project, but for the most part it's just not something that can really be tracked down because it isn't really important to the company to document every single odd part (they're much more archive oriented when it comes to sets). What they are, however, is an efficient company from all accounts and not prone to wasting perfectly good parts, even if they end up not needing them, so I would never be surprised to see an unusual one pop up somewhere. It's just a nice opportunity to get something that is completely different from what most people have in their collections. I'm fond of the barrel as well and still hoping they will end up actually producing them in tan one day, but I kind of doubt it. I'm now tackling a MOC for a theme I have no experience in :-p... Excellent! An opportunity to try something new. Quote
74louloute Posted January 17, 2009 Posted January 17, 2009 Cool initiative ! I didn't know this manga but for sure I'll enter ! By the way this show seems to be great. Quote

Lorentzen Posted January 17, 2009 Posted January 17, 2009 It's just a nice opportunity to get something that is completely different from what most people have in their collections. But where do they pop up? On ebay? or bricklink? and how do the parts even go into circulation? Quote
Shadows Posted January 17, 2009 Posted January 17, 2009 But where do they pop up? On ebay? or bricklink? and how do the parts even go into circulation? As I said, TLG produces them, figures out that they don't need them and sells or gives them away to employees, depending on the situation. The specific arrangements aren't public knowledge because honestly, what would be the point for them to put effort into something like that? There are several dealers out there who manage to build up an inventory of them which then they sell them to you and me, mostly through Bricklink but sometimes at shows as well. It is even possible for large dealers to make specific deals to purchase huge quantities of things directly in a custom order format, but that isn't the case here, these are much more limited parts. Quote
NewRight Posted January 17, 2009 Posted January 17, 2009 Sounds like a great contest. The orange cheese slopes? I really like the tan barrel and black beard. Looks like a fantastic idea. If you are trying to rid yourself of rare-items I will take them off you hand Hinckley. You don't need a contest. Quote
Zepher Posted January 17, 2009 Posted January 17, 2009 (edited) Here's my attempt. It's not very good, but it's simple and I like it. In the opening seeunce of the show the shadowy figure of the Avatar is shown wielding all four elements onto of a piller of stone. He he is wielding water/ice. I have no idea if it's on the right side.... Wow, that pciture sucks. I'll take a better one later. Edited January 17, 2009 by Zepher Quote
strider406 Posted January 17, 2009 Posted January 17, 2009 Are we allowed to just make a scene that could of happened or do we have to make something that actually happened? Quote

Athos Posted January 17, 2009 Posted January 17, 2009 For the raffle, this is my MOC food hawker cart, as inspired by 8398 before its formal launch. How is that Avatar related? Steve Quote
hewkii9 Posted January 17, 2009 Posted January 17, 2009 Hmm...good thing my sister got my Fire Nation ship before Christmas! Now off to design an Appa... Is that a black beard in the bottom right or some other color? Quote
Hinckley Posted January 17, 2009 Author Posted January 17, 2009 That barrel intrigues me. can we get some sort of story posted about where these pieces specifically came from?I'm now tackling a MOC for a theme I have no experience in :-p... I got them from a bricklink seller Magic Bricks. Lots of great stuff there, but for some reason can't search under "special color" anymore, so the rare stuff is hard to find in her shop. Are we allowed to just make a scene that could of happened or do we have to make something that actually happened? It could be made up -a scene that could have happened. (The word is could've- a conjunction of could and have, not could of) How is that Avatar related?Steve The food hawkers sell their food outside the large temples. It's a very good representation of the food hawkers from the show. Quote
Light Light Posted January 17, 2009 Posted January 17, 2009 The food hawkers sell their food outside the large temples. It's a very good representation of the food hawkers from the show. Umm, Hinckley? I don't think he full understood the raffle. He thinks it is a Forum Avatar moc, not a moc of the Avatar TV Show. Quote
Wout Posted January 17, 2009 Posted January 17, 2009 What's so special about the yellow or orange cheeseslopes? There were 2 orange in a 2005 tiny turbo and many yellow in the little 2006 creator yellow car. Quote

Hinckley Posted January 17, 2009 Author Posted January 17, 2009 Umm, Hinckley? I don't think he full understood the raffle. He thinks it is a Forum Avatar moc, not a moc of the Avatar TV Show. But there are food hawkers in the TV show...right? Did he make it his avatar? Quote
Brickthing Posted January 17, 2009 Posted January 17, 2009 But there are food hawkers in the TV show...right? Did he make it his avatar? Not ones with BBQ grills and rubber tires. Quote
The Rancor Posted January 17, 2009 Posted January 17, 2009 (edited) Good raffle... I don't know anything about Avatar though, and don't intend to find out. One day rare bricks, you will be mine It's a shame I can't get Avatar lego in the Uk (officially). Otherwise I might have seen the programme to see what it means... Edited January 17, 2009 by The Rancor Quote
Oky Posted January 17, 2009 Posted January 17, 2009 (edited) But there are food hawkers in the TV show...right? Yeah, but as 3D Brickthing said, none with BBQ grills. If he really wanted to make an Avatar related MOC like that, he should have done the cabbage merchant! Did he make it his avatar? No, but he used the fig from his avatar in his MOC/entry. Very nice entries so far, guys! Keep 'em coming! Edited January 17, 2009 by Oky Wan Kenobi Quote
iamded Posted January 17, 2009 Posted January 17, 2009 Al these people saying, "Thank God I have Avatar sets I can enter," and, "Oh no I can't enter because I don't have any Avatar sets". It's ridiculous. Next competition/raffle thing should be based around something Lego hasn't made anything of. Sorry, I just found their excuses slightly annoying... ~Peace Quote

I said something similarly earlier. LEGO is about being creative but some people think it has to have something to do with LEGO official sets. Like, I could never imagine saying "I don't have any police station parts... " Quote
Lego12 Posted January 18, 2009 Posted January 18, 2009 (edited) This is the Cabbage man and his cabbages. This is the episode: Waterbending Scroll, with the Pirates. That's why there's pirates in this MOC. I didn't have my camera with me and I'm going to get my camera back on the 1st of February and I think this contest will be over by then, so I had to use my cellphone. The pictures are resized to 800x600, but the pics are a little bit blurry. I hope this doesn't disqualify me. Enjoy! Overall MOC: Shows Aang jumping away, the pirates chasing after him, the cabbage man, and some villagers. The Pirates: The three pirates chasing Aang. Close up of the Cabbage man and his cart: The cabbage man with his cabbage and cabbage cart. His face is this: Aang: Aang running away with his staff with the pirates behind him. I hope you enjoyed my MOC. It took me about 30 minutes to make, so effort was put into it. Edited January 18, 2009 by Lego12 Quote
