I know some people on this site have had some luck for extra parts in sets. For instance, a example of a lucky extra part would be when I found an extra piece of dynamite in my mine mech! It was so awesome finding that in there. Whenever there is a piece that is not actually part of the set extras is because of an error. So have any of you guys found any unusual parts in sets that don't belong there?

-Extra silver winged Dwarve hemet in Dwarve's mine

-2 extra gray antennas in police mobile command center

Not sure what else at the moment.

Almost every set will come with a few extra pieces, especially small things like 1x1 round plates or Technic pins. It has been that way for a long time. I never understood why TLG does it, but I'm not complaining.

The best ones I've gotten are probably printed 1x1 tiles in a variety of sets (some Futuron and M:Tron sets in the 80s/90s, and more recently in the 7990 Cement Mixer), and some space visors in colors that are hard to come by today.

They come with extra parts I would say, as replacements for small easy to lose extra pieces.

I have had extra sticker sheets in one or two sets - e.g. the transparent sheet from the Agents Mobile command centre.

I got an entire extra bag of dark bley and dark red jumpers with Town Plan.

In the 2005 Fire Engine set I received an extra instruction booklet.

Often it seems that I get some nice extra pieces, but then it turns out I just forgot to put it in.

I believe that I got 4 extra dark bley plates that have cut corners in the 6211 ISD. I used them to stabilize the overly fragile bottom.

I love extra pieces, I keep them in their own seperate cup. I have gotten-

-Extra 4 plates in the 6211 ISD

-Extra bag of minfig parts/accessories in Vladeks dark fortress

-Extra antennas in various sets

-Extra gold and silver 1x1 round studs are always nice to have

I havent gotten either of them, but I heard there is an extra clone accsesory pack in the Republic Gunship and AT-TE, so I guess thats a good one to mention.

This feels like a familiar topic. If anyone finds an older one, post it in here and I'll merge.

On topic...

Lots of the traditional spares, 1x1 round plates and such. I especially appreciate spare minifig items: cutlasses, lightsabers and blades, visors.

The best unexpected extras I've ever had were probably a bag of light grey wings in my Death Star II and an extra bag of clone accessories (visor, pauldron, guns, etc) in one of the late 2008 sets. Oh, and a cape. Opened the little box and there were two of them, stuck together.

There have been lots of random bits and pieces that were too big to belong as extras, including things that didn't even belong in the set. I have come to appreciate the parts inventory at the back of the instructions just to confirm that I didn't forget to put that 1x8 technic brick somewhere and it's really not part of the set. Saves a lot of trouble that way.

I agreed with you. I love spares which are more practical for minifigs' assortment. One of the recent 2009 sets which is worth mentioning is the 8396 Soldiers' Arsenal. With the picture below as reference, for an impulse set like this, you could get an additional blue epaulette, small gun and cutlass too.

I got a set of extra heads and hats in the new coast guard ship i think. Pity I didn't get any extra minifig bodies to go with them

I also got some extra stickers in a set recently, but i can't for the life of me remember which set or find the stickers!

When I was carrying set 7744 Police Headquarters, it felt extremely heavy. When I brought it home, I realized it had included at least 2 extra bags of parts. One included the minifig heads and the other was pieces to the little control tower. I also got an extra pistol in 7620 Indiana Jones Motorcycle Chase, though I think this happened to many others. I have yet to receive an extra sticker set though.

I used to believe that extra parts are included because the parts aren't counted, but weighed. Therefore, small pieces wouldn't register much at all, so some slip in. I'm not sure about this now, especially after those 2 extra bags in 7744.

Thanks for reminding me of the pirate extras WhiteFang.

I absolutely love that in every new pirate set with a soldier, you get an extra blue epaulette, and in the sets with Brickbeard, you get an extra pearl gold one. Plus extra cutlasses. Or is it cutli?

It makes me so happy everytime I get a great extra in a set.

Me too! (and lots of 1x1 round plates, mainly transblue).

Another big surprise was all the extra pieces in 7093 (I was worried I missed sopme building steps so I asked for help: link).

And a really odd one was the Steven Spielberg head in Mistalnds tower (but it's a "regular extra").

You almost always get the same parts in extras though, and exactly one of each. Given how common it is, I think it has to be intentional.

The single extra parts are intentional, and are given for parts like cheese slopes, single studs and droid arms. The good news is that the extra parts are given on a per bag basis, so larger sets with multiple small part bags get multiple spare pieces of the same kind. :classic:

I have no idea how some people get entire extra bags though. IMO, it's probably somebody messing with the boxes in store.

Nah, I've had it with unquestionably sealed sets. Two very tiny bags can easily become stuck together and end up in a box. They claim to weigh everything, but the kind of accuracy that would be required to catch some of these mistakes would be beyond belief. Still, they do a great job the vast majority of the time and I'm not griping when it goes in my favour.

I got an extra troll shield in my Dwarves Mine. However, it missed one of the black coupling pieces to the cart. Too bad I didn´t have another one, one of the carts now have a grey one instead... :sceptic:

I received an extra agents gun (loose in the box) once, but beyond that I've never received more than the standard intentional extras.

God Bless,

7890 Ambulance, had doubles of every bag.

So I basically got two Ambulances in one box.

One of the large plates used to make the chassis' was broken though, with a big cut at one end.

I figure that piece must have gotten jammed in the machinery when packaging and caused the extra bags to get piled into one box.

I haven't gotten many extras besides the usual cheese slopes and 1 by 1 circular plates. The only thing I can remember is that in one Mars Mission set I got an extra black spear. Although I feel that I'm forgetting to mention something else :sceptic: .

If you check the inventories on Bricklink, you'll find that there are certain pieces that come extra in the sets as a standard. While some people have mentioned a few really neat flukes there are certain pieces, like the technic pins and the 1x1 round pieces and cheese slopes that come extra in every copy of any given set. My understanding is that these are pieces that are often easily lost and these are given as a convenient replacement.
