SlyOwl Posted December 22, 2008 Posted December 22, 2008 Captain Greenbeard has done one - There are also some floating around in the Ship MOC Index, which may be of help Quote
RTN LNA Posted December 22, 2008 Posted December 22, 2008 (edited) The xebec has always intrigued me, however i never quite figured out hw to make one. I am open to any sudjestions, I mainly need help with the hull structure, what pieces ect. Here are some pics, and thanks for any help!I'm thinking i might make the oared variation, similar to the galley, for my barbery corsairs. It may help to look at the Xebecs here. I think you could do it using the standard hull parts. Edited December 22, 2008 by RTN LNA (Lego Naval Architect) Quote
CPT. Jr Posted December 23, 2008 Posted December 23, 2008 wow! thanks,i thaught i might need a custom hull, but i guess not, thanks! I got some ideas for the stern deck thats at a slant, hopefully get a prototype built soon! Quote
castlestrike666 Posted December 23, 2008 Posted December 23, 2008 (edited) Hi Cpt. Jr. I'd simply make the hull with plates. You can create great & smooth shapes by using all kinds of plates (espacially the smaller ones: 1x2, 2x2, 2x3, 2x4). If resources (read: Lego ) are available again, I'll make a ship too.. using that plate technique. But now I'm constructing quite a large castle, and most of my lego is used for that! Just try, try and try again 'till you got the shape you want Kind Regards KennY. Edited December 23, 2008 by castlestrike666 Quote
Paul cantu Posted January 11, 2009 Posted January 11, 2009 Here is the link: http://mocpages.com/moc.php/89996 This is a great tutorial for you beginners and has some unique techniques that you pros might not have seen. Quote
Specever Posted January 11, 2009 Posted January 11, 2009 Here, you can post tutorials on how to make ships, if those other ones are too expensive! <Here is mine> Take a small raft. Add a mast to the center. Put a sail on that mast. (Perhaps the size of the mast, or construct it out of construction paper.) Add supports. And there you go! A good little boat. Post yours! Any sizes will do. Might I suggest using findmybrick.com for the peices? Quote
Capt. Kirk Posted January 11, 2009 Posted January 11, 2009 Here is my instruction... Instruction Instruction Instruction ... Quote
Specever Posted January 11, 2009 Posted January 11, 2009 Nice ship... Actually, I think I am going to use it... Quote
Ryan_T Posted January 11, 2009 Posted January 11, 2009 Hey, Can you make a tutorial using only the the hulls for BrickBeards Bounty? Quote
Captain Green Hair Posted January 11, 2009 Posted January 11, 2009 Thanks for making this Paul, this is a nice start for beginning shipbuilders. If you are planning on building ships, i advice you to read up on them. Find out what makes a ''sloop'' or a ship of the ''line''. Check out the key features on ships like ''tumblehome'' or the ''capstan''. Ship model galleries like this one, are also a great source of inspiration to me. And you can ofcourse visit museums or even real ships. When i build a ship, i first pick out the type of ship and search for information and photo's on the web. There are a lot of great books as well, i own quite a few about the Dutch VOC ships. I did many hours of studying, visiting the replica ship and what not, before i started building the ''Prins Willim''. The ships i made on prefab hulls can be seen in my BS folder. Ships have been my favourite build subject ever sinds i was a child, and i have made quite a few. I hope this is some usefull information for you shipbuilders, i wish you all the best! Quote
Paul cantu Posted January 12, 2009 Posted January 12, 2009 To Davy Blocks: I might make a larger ship tutorial but if you use the same techniques on my small ship on a larger ship the final outcome should still be the same. To Captain green hair: I didn't use the historically correct terms in this tutorial because this tutorial is aimed at helping those who may not know that much about ships especially kids. I personally don't like to build ships based off of historical ships because they seem a bit boring(just a personal opinion). I like adding fun and unrealistic features that make the ship more playable and interesting. Quote

RTN LNA Posted January 12, 2009 Posted January 12, 2009 The instructions for the Black Pearl-lite with PARTS LIST! The finished ship enjoy kurt Quote
Ryan_T Posted January 12, 2009 Posted January 12, 2009 Well Paul, I mean with just 1 middle section but.. The Hull pieces of different shape. so, if you could :) I really want to have a go at a ship but can't seem to get a good one started. Quote
RTN LNA Posted January 14, 2009 Posted January 14, 2009 Small Sailing Ship Tutorial Instructions: Finished Ship: Opps!! it appears I have gotten my URLs messed up! MY BAD!! A Penrose Triangle is NOT a Small Sailing Ship Just disregard this post! -------------------------------------------------------------- My thanks to: Peter Lea, Jarek, and A Brothers Brick Blog Quote
Captain Blackmoor Posted January 14, 2009 Posted January 14, 2009 It's quite funny, but I doubt if this has to do with Lego pirates... Quote
Specever Posted January 19, 2009 Posted January 19, 2009 Welcome. Here, you can build forts with ease and post them to please. NO OFF-TOPIC POSTS. Lemme take a shot. 1: Requires these pieces. Brown Brick, modified 1 x 2 Log - x12 Brown Panel Wall 2 x 6 x 6 Log - x8 STEP 1: Place Panel Walls in square-shape. (2 on each side.) STEP 2: Place Modified Bricks into each empty slot to fill totally. STEP 3: Add on whatever. Yeah, crappy but example. POST AND BUILD AWAY! Quote
Captain Zuloo Posted January 21, 2009 Posted January 21, 2009 Specever, this is a nice idea, but I don't see it going anywhere. The reason for that being that a tutorial or instructions for a fort would probably deserve a thread of it's own. And, people just don't have time to create directions for such a model - too big! Nice idea, but I just thought you should understand why you probably won't get many replies to this topic. Quote
Admiral Blockbeard Posted January 21, 2009 Posted January 21, 2009 Perhaps we can use this to share some special techniques that we know of. For example SlyOwl and his flipper roof. Or some snot techniques. I would really like to learn from some of the masters! Regards, Cpt. PB Quote
Specever Posted January 22, 2009 Posted January 22, 2009 It can be as simple as, 'Take the legs off a minifig, place a plume in the torso for that blood effect', or very difficult! Like that special tile roof SlyOwl does! Post yours! Quote
Governor Mister Phes Posted January 22, 2009 Governor Posted January 22, 2009 Specever, it's great that you've been posting all these MOC tutorial and technique threads but unfortunately they're not receiving a strong response. Since there's no point having similiar threads that are going nowhere we'll probably merge them. Aside from that we now have a Pirate MOC Sub-Forum where all Pirate MOC discussion is to take place. Please and thank-you, -Specever Quote
Governor Mister Phes Posted January 22, 2009 Governor Posted January 22, 2009 Merge and move completed. The idea is good but a thread for each kind of MOC is somewhat excessive. Quote
Capn Frank Posted January 24, 2009 Posted January 24, 2009 Opps!! it appears I have gotten my URLs messed up! MY BAD!!A Penrose Triangle is NOT a Small Sailing Ship Just disregard this post! LOL! That's funny Kurt. I like how you used the slopes to give your model the same effect. Maybe Kurt can make a fort out of Penrose Triangles Quote
