DarthPineapple Posted January 20, 2009 Posted January 20, 2009 This set looks pretty cool, thanks for the review! Quote
Algernon Posted January 20, 2009 Posted January 20, 2009 When are you going to get it people: prices are going up! The price standard isn't what it used to be, don't be so surprised. But in my opinion this set is very good. I don't care much for City but I really like this one... I don't know if it's the detail, or the size, or just the general attractiveness of the design. But I like it a lot. Sadly $50 is too much for me to buy into a theme I don't actively collect. Oh well- this set is still amazing. Great review. Quote
Lasse D Posted January 20, 2009 Posted January 20, 2009 I'm afraid not, look carefully in the 5th photo and you can see that he turned all of the slits down . Oh well. Yeah. You are right, unfortunately. Here I was thinking that LEGO would come to its senses regarding this piece, but no They make sure to turn them so we can't see they are only pretty on one side - it is almost as bad as the Creator sets shown with working steering while the real models don't have the shown features. To sum it up: The harvester is too big, too expensive, has poor functionality and no revelation in parts, but looks pretty on its own. Thanks for the review - now I know that I should by some more Technic tractors instead. Quote
Wout Posted January 20, 2009 Posted January 20, 2009 Thank you for the nice review. Can you make a picture of the minifig and his torso? There were first speculations that he had a blue version of the red classic-space shirt, which is already in some city sets and I was curious of it was really so. Quote
Dadster Posted January 20, 2009 Posted January 20, 2009 Nice looking set and nice review!! Thanks for sharing... I truly think kids all over the US will love these Farming sets. Quote
VBBN Posted January 20, 2009 Posted January 20, 2009 Oh, very nice! THanks for the review! Man do I want this set now, just like all of the other farm sets. Is it possible we could get an in-build photo from the manual? VBBN Quote
Loganwan Posted January 20, 2009 Posted January 20, 2009 Thanks for the review. I was excited from the first picture I saw, but now that I see how big it really is, I am REALLY excited. It is going to be way to big, and I will not have anywhere to put it, but I don't care. It will become the center piece of my dining table or something. Quote
SeaKing61 Posted January 20, 2009 Posted January 20, 2009 Looks fantastic to me, and a great review to show it off. I'd be curious to know how it looks with the tractor and trailer from the farm set once that's released. There'll be a lot of funky colours going on. It is a pity about the hay bale mechanism though, i'd hoped for something more. Nothing a bit of modding won't fix though. Are those tall green inverted windscreens on the side? I don't think i've ever seen them in a non transparent colour before. Laurie Quote
5150 Lego Posted January 20, 2009 Author Posted January 20, 2009 Thank you for the nice review. Can you make a picture of the minifig and his torso? I'll snap a pic for you later tonight. I don't quote me, but i don't believe the torso isn't anything we haven't seen before. Oh, very nice! THanks for the review! Man do I want this set now, just like all of the other farm sets. Is it possible we could get an in-build photo from the manual?VBBN Sure. here ya go! And a shot of the manual.. Are those tall green inverted windscreens on the side? I don't think i've ever seen them in a non transparent colour before.Laurie Yes they are. I meantion that in the review. I'm not sure if this is in fact the first time we've seen these in color before or not. Either way it was a clever way to get the proportions right. Quote
Marcus Aurelius Antoninus Posted January 21, 2009 Posted January 21, 2009 Wow, I have been waiting for this to show up, I guess I will have to check my local TRU on my way home next payday. Gotta have one. Quote
bamaker Posted January 21, 2009 Posted January 21, 2009 What a great review of this set! I'm not a huge City fan, but I've been anticipating the Combine ever since the first images came out. I'll have to stop by TRU after work today and see if it's made it down to Texas. I'm going to mod my set and replace the white bricks with green. I'll have a nice John Deere-ish Combine sitting on my desk to remind me of all the harvests I spent in Oklahoma bringing in the wheat. Quote
Bricks Posted January 21, 2009 Posted January 21, 2009 Wohoo This is an really nice review for an awesome set. I love the idea from TLC, with the Hay-bales. I frightened that they would use some stuff that look's like cheaper plastic rubbish from China, but now they are classic So all in all, it's a great set and thank's to the reviewer to show this us. Greetings 'Bricks' Quote
Klaus-Dieter Posted January 21, 2009 Posted January 21, 2009 Thank you very much for that great review, 5150 Lego! Apart from that imo the combine harvester is much too big and very expensive I really this set and can't wait to buy it, too! Klaus-Dieter Quote
Asuka Posted January 21, 2009 Posted January 21, 2009 A very good review indeed, thanks 5150 Lego! It´s an impressive looking and very detailed set and a very fine addition to the new fantastic Farm subtheme. Altough... for such a large set the playability seems really a bit low without any special working features... Quote
VBBN Posted January 21, 2009 Posted January 21, 2009 Ah thanks for the in-build pic. Looks like I will be getting this fine set indeed. Quote
Tomahawker Posted January 22, 2009 Posted January 22, 2009 Thanks for the review 5150 Lego. When I looked up this set on the TRU website and saw the dreaded "Special Edition" on the box, I knew it would suffer the typical TRU scalping on these types of sets. Hopefully as other have stated it will be $39.99 at Lego S@H. I noticed that the side windows in your build are reversed compared to the box and catalog illustrations. This is a positive change as it closes the obvious gap between the sides and front windshield. Did you do that on your own or is that how it is shown in the instructions? Overall this is a very good looking set. The scale is impressive, but like others I'm dissapointed in the lack of a mechanism to drive the combine head and the cheesy hay bale delivery system. However, I do like the design of the cab and the easy access afforded by the opening sides and top. I'll probably get this set, but I'll definitely wait until it's available at S@H to avoid the TRU rip-off pricing. Quote
Ras 74 Posted January 22, 2009 Posted January 22, 2009 Already from when we saw the first pics of this, I thought it looked really good. Now seeing this awesome review, it is even more incredible. A really lovely set, but probably not a must-have-set for me. Thanks for a really nice review, and some funny and great shots. -Ras- Quote
MatthewUSA Posted January 22, 2009 Posted January 22, 2009 Thank you 5150Lego for the review. I have been curious how large the Combine really was going to be. As your pics showed, my thoughts and nightmares came true. Being that I am more of a scale modeler, I will be modifying this set. The parts are AWESOME!! They definitely have great potential for a revised MOC. GREAT REVIEW!! Thank you for the great pics. Model On!! Quote

Yes,i reversed the side windows to close the gap. I did this on my own cause i felt it looks better this way since as you already meantioned closes the gaps on the side. Quote
DJ Force Posted January 23, 2009 Posted January 23, 2009 Apart from that imo the combine harvester is much too big and very expensive I really this set and can't wait to buy it, too! I´ll mark this red in my calendar Quote
eti Posted January 25, 2009 Posted January 25, 2009 Ok, now remember the pictures of the hay that drops in the harvester that were on the back of the box? Great review, but eh... hay??? What about straw? I don't think grass is mown with a combine harvester... To me the big size doesn't work, even though it is realistic... for minifig scale it looks a bit too chunky for me. For the rest, the set doesn't look bad at all. Quote
flywheels Posted January 27, 2009 Posted January 27, 2009 Thanks for the review. It looks like a fun set, however the size and price will most likely keep me away. Bummer about the lack of a better hay bail execution system. Quote
marvinblue Posted January 29, 2009 Posted January 29, 2009 Great review, but eh... hay??? What about straw? I don't think grass is mown with a combine harvester...To me the big size doesn't work, even though it is realistic... for minifig scale it looks a bit too chunky for me. For the rest, the set doesn't look bad at all. Hi there! Thanks heaps for the review!! I love the MOC, very creative! Alas, as Eti has said above, I think its a bit too big, so I won't be getting it. I do like the review and the fact Lego have gone out on a limb and done something completely different. I have seen combine harvesters before, so I appreciate the scale, but this one's not for me due to the size. It's like 7726, Coast Guard Truck with Speedboat, because of it's size it doesn't get much of a run through Legoville. Although it has awesome detail, the truck is like a Monster Tuck compared with the other vehicles. Quote
Spidubic Posted February 7, 2009 Posted February 7, 2009 Great review, but eh... hay??? What about straw? I don't think grass is mown with a combine harvester... I would have to agree. A combine collects the wheat in the top bin which it then loads into trailers with the boom on the side. The straw is ejected out the back in a nice line about 3 to 4 feet wide. This line of hay is then collected by a hay baler into either round bales or rectangular bales. The combine does not make the bales. Quote
Siegfried Posted February 10, 2009 Posted February 10, 2009 This set is so beautiful, and it has loads of great parts too! My final decision will have to wait until I see the Australian price. I love the outside shots! Thanks for the review. Quote
