posted this in the flying wing review but thought better post it here for anyone expecting to recieve their replacement mechanic head with brown tache

"Just recieved an email from lego after i sent an email to get the right head for my grey moustached german mechanic and thought id let evryone who is in the same position as me know the score...

Unfortunately this item has been replaced permanently so we do not have the

replacements with the brown moustache. In the future all the sets no. 7683 will

have the right picture of the minifigures printed on the box and in the building

instruction. We are really sorry about the inconvenience.

the reference number on this letter).

I guess if you're really desperate you could see if there's any of the brown heads on bricklink? though then that's more money out of your pocket :(

dauodbazaar's review right here on EB also features the brown version.

I put in a request for a brown one myself recently from S@H but haven't got a response yet.

They're not gonna give us the brown version? Duuude! That's meeaan... The poor b**tard looked so good with a brown mustache. It would've been fun to have the guy in brown. Looks more like the German mechanic and it'd work in vig or diorama - as the younger self of the grey mustache man.

Okay, so I've just posted something about "being adult" and "it's a toy" in another thread, but... BOO! I want the brown mustache head!

i know...it sucks! why didnt they decide to just keep the brown moustache - id already asked for a replacement and had been sent a grey one...

That's really bad...

The grey one is so boring. We get them in many other set's.

But why have 'dauodbazaar' one from his set, and other haven't? I will look forward to the prices, they will be to high...

But maybe our Ambassador could ask for us in this situation...

This is very annoying. Since they started using the brown version, why did they have to change back to the grey one ?

I now sense a request for a 'brown mechanic moustache head' coming in the MCW

Not that I ever planned on buying the set, but I like IJ, and in the movie he definitely has a brown mustache.

Plus, since when does a guy so old his hair is graying have that many muscles?

I was going to get this set, but with the IJ 2009 sets coimg out later, I wait to get one of those. But the german mechanic WAS one of my favorite figs , but now I'm going to pass on this set. To TLG : :skull:

Phew...I'm glad I bought the set when I did. Mine came with the right (brown) head, and I was really happy to see that when opening the box.

Also, this is why you should never wait too long to buy a set.

I've just opened the race for the stolen treasure and found that head in here, when its supposed to be the grey one, which is a bit weird.

I think it is a load of crap that the heads are being replaced.

First we see the prototype pic of the set with the mechanic having the Gray Mustache (and Patrick torso). Then we see the finals and get what we deserved, the Muscle Torso and Brown Mustache. But now they switch back to the gray?

Yeah, thats the fact I didn't understand. Why they are doing this...

This just doesn't make any sense why TLC would do this though.

When exactly did this change occur? It would be useful to know so that we can figure out whether the sets in our shops have the brown or grey moustaches. My local Kmart just got some of these sets, so I'm not sure whether to buy it and hope for a brown head or skip it.

I don't think it's that simple. They must be mixed from the start, as I got one from the very first day of release and it was grey.

There may be a regional difference - maybe the US has brown and Europe/ rest of the world is getting a mixed lot?

Good point. Not that they don't have a ton of money anyway. And I love the set, so I'd reconsider if I were you.
