VBBN Posted January 25, 2009 Posted January 25, 2009 Everyone: I am beginning a new range of MOCs, maily 8-Wide sets. I find that you can incorporate a lot of detail in these, and the end result is great. Now my first 8-Wide MOC is this pickup... However, it is beginning to look pretty bad. So, I am beginning on a new 8-Wide. This time around, it will be either a car or SUV, depending on where my Bricks take me. I plan to build it in modules, to make it easier. :) Here is one: Added: Here is an underside. I plan to use the Technic base to add on sides, as You will see in later pics. More... My latest pics... Ricecracker Posted January 25, 2009 Posted January 25, 2009 I think you've done a great job so far! One think I would like to ask is whether you have a pic to use as inspiration. I just built a small fire truck, and a Dodge Challenger MOC, and the whole time, I had my laptop open beside me with the picture. I also like the idea that you are making it modular, and the colour scheme looks good so far. Again it's looking real nice, and I can't wait to see the finished product. -Ricecracker Quote

Based on that, I would say that you should raise the car by about 1 stud, and maybe use tiles for about 2 studs at the back, with a sharper, more rounded curve to the roofline. Also, I don't think that the emblem on the front hood is neccesary, but you should obviously do what you think looks right, and since it is partly based on something in your imagination, you know what would look best yourself! -Ricecracker Edited January 25, 2009 by ricecracker Quote
VBBN Posted January 25, 2009 Author Posted January 25, 2009 Well, what I am thinking, si taking that car, and Making it a 2 seater. The back end will just be a slanted window. I think I will shorten the back a bit, and raise tha car a bit, or at least the wheels, like you said. I also want to get a hold of those speed racer rims in red, if they have any. Obviously these rims are better than the Pickup, but I want them to look less sharp. The hood ornament is temorary until I get more smooth slopes. :) Quote

Ralph_S Posted January 25, 2009 Posted January 25, 2009 The second one certainly has more going for it than the first one, but neither of the two cars really looks convincingly like a car of any kind. I've been a member of a LEGO car group on flickr for quite a while (LUGNuts) and started a discussion on how you go about building a car?. My idea was pretty much confirmed by the responses in the discussion. People who build the more realistic cars tend to be people who plan. By realistic I don't necessarily mean a model of an actual car. It could still your own design. I don't let 'my bricks take me' anywhere. I have a design in my mind before I start. Don't build 'a car or an SUV'. Decide whether you want a car or an SUV in advance, because otherwise you may end up with a hopelessly mangled mess. Cheers, Ralph Quote
