Alice Posted January 26, 2009 Posted January 26, 2009 I only eat out occasionally. I find that I can cook better than most restaurants actually and it's much cheaper to eat at home. I hate chain restaurants. I like for my dining out experience to be one that is unique. In Birmingham, AL, which is where I currently live we have some great local places to eat, which is what I always prefer whether at home or visiting somewhere else. One being "The Fish Market Restaurant". It's a warehouse style restaurant and the owner is greek so they use a lot of greek recipes. They have shrimp and grits that are to die for (and here is the wiki for grits for those of you who don't know what they are). They use only fresh seafood that is shipped in daily and lots of different things from local growers. There is also a market inside of the restaurant. Another personal local favorite is "Bottega". They have a really pricey dinner selection that is jacket required and then a cheaper cafe style restaurant. It's in the heart of the artsy area of downtown (where I live). Similarly is "The Veranda on Highland". They are a fine dining restaurant with lunch and dinner menus. It's excellent and probably one of my favorite places I have ever eaten. The bread pudding is absolutely fabulous. I must add, Arby's is also excellent! Quote

Fast Food: Chick-Fil-A Bar Food: Brewzii (Bar/Pizza place) Casual: Cheesecake Factory, Amigo's Mexican, Flipper's Pizzeria, and Don Pablo's Mexican. Dressy(Friday Nights food, 150$+) Fleet's Landing (Seafood), a bunch of steak restraunts (Can't remember what they're called), and Seasons 52. Quote
Marcus Aurelius Antoninus Posted January 27, 2009 Posted January 27, 2009 I enjoy Rickenbacker's Bistro in Ogden Utah http://rickenbackersbistro.com/index.htm. The Best food in and around the Wasatch Front, they offer in flight catering. A must try if you plan on flying in to a FBO. close to Salt Lake City. http://www.kempjet.com/services.htm. Quote
Erdbeereis Posted January 27, 2009 Posted January 27, 2009 I don't eat out very often, mainly because my mother and father make fantastic food at home (I love helping out in the kitchen as well. ). But here are my favorites: Fast Food: Noodles and Company. I'm a big pasta fan. Casual: P.F. Chang's. Although the closest one is an hour away, so I usually only get to go there on vacation when I go to a bigger city.) Cheesecake Factory isn't too bad. Olive Garden mainly for the salad and breadsticks. Dressy(Friday Nights food, 150$+) The Oven (Very good Indian food.) The award for my favorite restaurant goes to a place that I only go to on ski vacation unfortunately. Mazza in Salt Lake City. Outstanding Middle-Eastern food, and a cool restaurant. This is a great thread idea! Quote
Norro Posted January 27, 2009 Posted January 27, 2009 The sphinx, Belfast. Simply the world's best chippy... God Bless, Nathan Quote
MacK Posted January 27, 2009 Posted January 27, 2009 Mine's "MacKdonalds"... (Get it? ) Although Quizno's is the only other resturaunt I like that I can think of now. Quote
eti Posted January 27, 2009 Posted January 27, 2009 I eat out almost never but when I do Jasmijn & Ik is my favorite. It is in a funny location outside the city center, but it happens to be in my neighborhood. It used to be a Chinese restaurant like any other (where you can order meal no. 132 with either white rice, fried rice or noodles) but now the daughter took over and changed it into an Asian oriented culinary experience. Artsy trendy decoration and incredbily nice food. Oh, it's in Utrecht, Holland... Quote
Eilif Posted January 27, 2009 Posted January 27, 2009 My wife and I love good food, anybody in, or coming through Chicago and want some additional recomendations for good eating, just PM me. Fast food Chain: Taqueria Los Comales. There's a bunch of them around, mostly in Mexican neighborhoods. Good food, great price. Not totally authentic, but worlds ahead of Taco Bell, Pepe's, etc... Casual Dining: RasDashen. Amazing Ethiopian Food. Probably my favorite restaurant at any price. Formal (dressy): Vermillion. Great Latin-Indian Fusion. My stepsister thinks she may have gotten food poisoning there last weekend though, so a couple of second choices would be... Carnivale: Great Latin cooking in a really cool room. Gehas: Really good Fondue, in a very dark, romantic "cellar" like venue. Quote
Peppermint_M Posted January 27, 2009 Posted January 27, 2009 There is a chip shop in Cardiff I adore, but I usualy end up in Burger King for a quick bite at lunch when im shopping. The Wheatsheath in Hay-on-Wye is my favourite pub lunch place, once a year I go used book shopping with my grandparents and that is where we have a nice meal at lunch. Quote
Admiral Bejaune Posted January 27, 2009 Posted January 27, 2009 Anywhere that has decent food, plays good music, and serves alcohol. Quote
Trexxen Posted January 28, 2009 Posted January 28, 2009 Very good topic - just ate, too, though not out ;_; Ahem... Fast food: Taco Bell. Not authentic in the least, but once you have one of their volcano tacoes (if you can handle the heat, I taste pepper extract in the sauce), you'll have to come back for more - the sauce just has a tang to it. =D "Bar" dining: Depends on your definition. My "Dressy" place could also fit here, but for a not-so-expensive and quite awesome experience, Buffalo Wild Wings. I've only eaten there once, but amazing wings + great service + guitar hero tournaments = win. "Normal" dining: Tough one, so it's a tie between Olive Garden and Applebees. Applebees never disappoints with their boneless buffalo wings as an appetizer, and their meals and desserts are all top notch. Olive Garden, again, I've only eaten at once, but I can say it was the best meal I've ever had at a restaurant. Their alfredo was divine; the parmesean freshly grated, and the chocolate gelato...I'm drooling, agh. "Classy" dining: Calhouns. It's a little microbrewery/restaurant in Tennessee only, and they have amazing food. They hold the title of being the only place to get me to eat onions (Their onion loaf is amazing), they have great dessert, they have amazing fries, and the chicken...amazing. Also, if I had to combine the best of all worlds... Bread: Garlic Biscuits from Red Lobster (not on the list because I don't like seafood, but MAN was the bread good) Appetizer: Volcano Taco (only one.) Meal: Applebees' boneless buffalo wings, all but one drenched in Buffalo Wild Wings's hot sauce. The last is drenched in the atomic sauce...On the side are Calhouns fries. Dessert: Chocolate Gelato from Olive Garden. BLISS. ~Trexxen Quote
Natman8000 Posted January 28, 2009 Posted January 28, 2009 (edited) When I eat out its at Dougies in Teaneck, NJ! Anyone here ever try the hot poppers? Its kosher by the way. EDIT: woah, I butchered this topic... Edited February 5, 2009 by Natman4000 Quote
