Hobbes Posted October 13, 2005 Posted October 13, 2005 I think they're too big. I like 'em but even on my 1600x1200 resolution they're big. IMHO the focus should be on the post not the avatars and their description. Other than that the changes so far are ok :) Quote
snefroe Posted October 13, 2005 Posted October 13, 2005 i'd have agree with hobbes on this one. they look really cool, but the size turns them into something hugely important... Quote

Lol, in fact the ARE! *twisted* ;) Anybody else this opinion? Different opinions? Please keep the input coming my fellows!! :) Quote
Norro Posted October 13, 2005 Posted October 13, 2005 I'll admit I'm the odd one out on the net... (Nothing like being an idependent eh?) I don't like post counters.... If someone's worth reading they're worth reading...If the MOC is good, it's good.... Post counters are just a pecking order. One that can even serve to intimidate new/'lesser' members. Personnaly I'm glad of every poster to Eurobricks, be that 1 post a month or 100 a day. I think what you contribute is far more important than how often you contribute. And that is the way it should stay. I'll remember the name of an inspiring MOCer, whether it's his/her first post or Phes'd post ;) I even seem to remember the post count being a joke with the admins at an early stage... Ahh, I feel better for saying that. And don't take me wrong, one of my fav aspects of Eurobricks is how little this is taken into account. I also love that about Lugnet. I think it is one of Classic Castle's weak points (I qualify this by saying I like cc and read it daily, and find it a great source for 'all my castle needs'). Please don't ruin it!!! God Bless, Nathan with the opposite view :) (who isn't going anywhere just expressing a preference...) Quote
Aredhel Posted October 13, 2005 Posted October 13, 2005 I think they are totally ok... When the icons are smaller, who would notice them at once?? Quote
SuvieD Posted October 13, 2005 Posted October 13, 2005 The icons are nice to look at. There are only 50 or so people here who post enough to get an advanced banner of any kind. I really like how the stars increase as you gain a new rank. The shields are okay but a little big. I would be fine with just the EB logo and the stars to indicate the level of participation. It is nice to have an avatar, I like that we can have special titles, and for some I know it is important to have post counts. I really don't care if someone can see my post counts or not. I do like that they can see some of the things that make me an individual. My avatar can be unique, my signature can be unique, my title can be personalized by an admin and unique. Those are the things I like. Join date and post count don't really matter to me. I like the idea that the more involved I am, the more abilities the website holds for me. Maybe instead of post counts only it could be based on a point system instead. 1 point for winning a small contest 1 point for every 100 posts 1 point for participating in Eurobricks events like viking month, EB the Event, etc. 1 point for being first to report some really good news or leaks 1 point for helping out the admins or mods with a project Then when a person had enough points they would be given the special titles and abilities. A new rank every 10 points or so. That way it would take like 50 points to be at the grand duke level. Which would be -50 contests won -5000 posts -50 events participated in -50 good news firsts -50 EB projects helped with Or some combination of all of them. That way you would easily know which members help out and improve the site the most. Not just which members post the most. Just my thought. Quote
jonfett Posted October 13, 2005 Posted October 13, 2005 I like SuvieD's idea, not sure how we would program it into the system.. so it may require someone manually editing points etc.. But anyway, the idea sounds good. As for the banners, I love them! I already told Apo that they look great and as he said, if this does encourage poeple to post crazy amounts to get a higher ranks, we will sort them out! ;) Jon. Quote

Wow, some nice ideas in here! :oo Maybe some words why the groups have been changed: The general idea behind the new groups wasn't to indicate who posts the mosts but it was developed to give those WHO are active around here some "home feelings". Actually the steps between the group levels are a bit bigger than most of you might think, this way it won't become too easy for trolls to "quickpost" themselves into better positions. Also the new ranks are meant as some kind of honor to those who get them, if someone is patient enough to post more than 1000 times here he surely isn't a troll because NO troll has enough patience to post that much. About the "point idea": This sounds really great, but I can also see some problems there, the very first is that I'm not sure if we can use any computer system for this, finally we will have to put the points one get down manually which isn't the savest system... ;) BUT we surely will think and talk about this idea, simply because the general thought behind it really appeals to me! (If we introduce it you, SuvieD, surely will get some points for the idea! ;)) Quote
SuvieD Posted October 13, 2005 Posted October 13, 2005 Wow, some nice ideas in here! Hobbes Posted October 13, 2005 Author Posted October 13, 2005 I do agree with Norro and SuvieD, I really don't care about the post count, either. But I think some sort of grouping system isn't that bad. I just think the "markers" don't have to be that big. And maybe one shield is enough. It could change colors, too, for example. The point system seems like a good idea, although maybe really difficult to implement. All in all I do feel "home" here. Keep it up :) Quote
Sir Dillon Posted October 13, 2005 Posted October 13, 2005 I like them, though I do think they're a little too big. Maybe if you shrunk everything a little it would look better. or, like Hobbes said, maybe only one shield would be enough. Quote
Mr. Lego-builder Posted October 13, 2005 Posted October 13, 2005 This is a very good idea. As other people said, the size of the ranking itself is not too big and very attractive! ;) It adds more color to the forum and makes it more enjoyable. P.S. How many posts do you need for each rank again? I know that 500 points to be a knight, but how much for Counts or Dukes? If you want to keep it as a secret, I can also understand that. ;) Quote
SuvieD Posted October 13, 2005 Posted October 13, 2005 It goes by 500 I believe. Sarg is the only one above knight that isn't a mod or admin. he has 1000+ so at 1000 you go up a level. My guess is that at 1500 you go up again and then at 2000. Quote
Mr. Lego-builder Posted October 13, 2005 Posted October 13, 2005 Thank You, SuvieD, I guess it will work out afterall. I have another question, for the webmaster/s. Do the new graphics slow down page loads? Just curious... 8-| Quote
xwingyoda Posted October 13, 2005 Posted October 13, 2005 One question guys, Why would you want smaller Icons ???? the smaller they are, the less you see Apo's great graphics !!!!!! I would vote for bigger ones :D ;) If you have only one shield, it makes the whole thing quite shacky !!! I love them the way they are !!!!! Quote
snefroe Posted October 13, 2005 Posted October 13, 2005 hm... i didn't think the size thing would become such an issue... it's big, but not that big of a deal to modify the system... suvied's idea sounds nice. only the "first to report good news" would be a bit difficult, tho... but in general, it's sounds very good indeed! Quote
Khorne Posted October 13, 2005 Posted October 13, 2005 I too think that the user icons are TOO big, it's too colorful on one side (the left) with the avatar and that big icon, it would be better with small ones. :) Quote
ApophisV Posted October 13, 2005 Posted October 13, 2005 Do the new graphics slow down page loads? No. Compared to some pictures in your signatures or some avatars they are ridiculously small... Quote
xwingyoda Posted October 13, 2005 Posted October 13, 2005 Do the new graphics slow down page loads? No. Compared to some pictures in your signatures or some avatars they are ridiculously small... ahhhhh, here is another reason to have them bigger ;) :P Quote
snefroe Posted October 13, 2005 Posted October 13, 2005 Apo, can't you centralise the avatars? now they're all to the extreme left, what gives the impression that your images are too big, but if you put the avatars in the middle, than perhaps it will look perfect Quote
Norro Posted October 13, 2005 Posted October 13, 2005 Just to clarify... I meant informally you know who contributes what (eg I look to someone for great MOCs, someone else for new etc.) Not another point system. Don't get me wrong I'm a very competitive person *viki* but I come to Eurobricks for the community, and community doesn't need neon lights and valet parking... That said the shield/logos look awsome... God Bless, Nathan (who should of mentioned he can hold out on a polar opinion for quite a while...) Quote
Hobbes Posted October 14, 2005 Author Posted October 14, 2005 hm... i didn't think the size thing would become such an issue... Neither did I... Quote
