Popped in to Sainsbury's and almost all their Lego had 33% off and some sets were half price.

Not much has stuck in mind... Third off SW Series 3 Planet Sets, A-Wing, Droid Escape, third off Friends Rehearsal Stage & Heartlake Pet Salon. Small Friends sets eg Stephanie's Outdoor Bakery - half price and 3 for £6 on the Series 2 Animals... lots of other reductions across all themes, might be worth checking out.

Just found 9440 Venomari Shrine in B&Ms in Kingswood retail park in Hull for £3.99. About 5 or 6 left when I was in earlier this afternoon, pretty good price for a nice little set!

Decided to check out B&M near work (I didn't know they sold Lego) no luck though. Then nipped in Home Bargains next door for some Haribos  and found Harry Potter Characters of the Magical World, Batman Visual Dictionary and Star Wars Character Encyclopaedia for £2.99 each! Plus Creator 5891 Apple Tree House reduced from £39.99 to £22.99 and Haribo Tangtastics at only 65p

It is a bit disingenuous to be posting these bargains with personal referral links in them.

I have benefited many times from savings both online and in-store by consulting this topic. I like to find good deals on Lego and I like to share them - that's what this thread is all about.

Now, I can't comment about other members but any Amazon links I post would generally be through BrickBadger or BrickSet, I'm not affiliated to either of these sites so apart from the warm fuzzy feeling I get from sharing a bargain, I don't personally benefit. Reading comments like this just makes me think 'what's the point?'.

Does it really matter if somebody benefits from a personal referral link when at the-end-of-day you still get cheaper Lego? If you really want to take the moral high ground, don't buy from Amazon full-stop.

Posted

I have seen others warned for the same thing, that was the point. Whether or not the EB rules have changed I don't know.

Moral high ground? Well I think being honest and saying he is gaining from them would be the right way to go about things, as opposed to the links which tend to hide them. But that is just me.

Regardless I have obviously touched a nerve and won't say any more.

Posted

Since when does anyone actually use the links posted in threads like to actually buy stuff? If you had any sense, you'd take the hints given here, use your own account on a cashback site to buy the product and get both the discounted set *and* the cashback for yourself?!

Posted

No nerve touched here!

If its against the rules, I apologise, I have read them before posting and didnt see it mentioned (is it ?) but may have missed it, and I have seen others post with referrals in so I figured it was ok.

My amazon links do have referral codes so I do get 50p if someone clicks and buys, or whatever it works out as. Any tesco or argos links I post dont have referrals on but they change their prices far less frequently hence fewer links.

I am sorry if anyone felt I was being dishonest or deceiving by posting links, that wasnt my intention. I search amazon for bargains every few days because the prices jump around so frequently, and I buy sets to keep and sell on later so I am on the look out, and I dont post every cheap price because if something is £19.22 instead of £19.99 then its not a bargain, so I try to keep it in a range where I think there is value. I copy the link, and post.

@TheDrakness & CJBERRY

Well yes, my nerve was well and truly touched, unfortunately my reaction to being called disingenuous is similar to that of Marty McFly when he's called 'Chicken'. From the response I'm no longer certain that the comment was even aimed in my direction (perhaps that should have been made clear in the original post ).

As for rule breaking I haven't noticed anything regarding referral links in the BSTF Forum Guides but I suppose if there's any 'warning' to be done one of the Mods will take care of it.

I thought that the primary aim of this thread was to share deals with other members of our community.... and I've often posted here in that spirit. Personally, I find it rather sad if the motivation of others has been otherwise. I won't say anymore than that :classic:

To bring the thread back to saving money and not worrying about links, as previously mentioned the Smyths website has 20% off until Monday. There are also discounts on individual items with the 20% on top of that. Unfortunately their website doesn't seem to be able to cope with the traffic.
