lukeyboymac Posted June 19, 2012 Posted June 19, 2012 Probably late to the party but Tescos have some amazing deals/misprices. Pretty sure they won't be honoured but you got to be in it to win it. Standout set is Hogwarts HP set for 25 quid
Ash Posted June 20, 2012 Posted June 20, 2012 (edited) Probably late to the party but Tescos have some amazing deals/misprices. Pretty sure they won't be honoured but you got to be in it to win it. Standout set is Hogwarts HP set for 25 quid Everything I've found (and there are some absurd prices Marina £9, Heroica Games £2 loads of others) is "currently unavailable" when you go to it's page. Either some kind of glitch or they just sold them all. :( I'm going to keep an eye on brick badger and hope there is a weird glitch and Amazon decides to match all those prices (it won't happen but I can dream!). martyboy70 Posted June 20, 2012 Posted June 20, 2012 (edited) Its very strange-it was flagged up on HUKD last night and its not just Lego-there are some really wacky prices right across the toy range like a £120 Scalextric set for £5.50. http://www.hotukdeals.com/deals/scalextric-james-bond-007-set-only-5-50-tesco-1246948 I expect a lot of cancellation emails will be going out today-I would have taken a punt on a few sets but Im skint this week. Sam892 Posted June 20, 2012 Posted June 20, 2012 By believe tescos ran out of the hulk set before I found out. Reduced from £49.99 to £12 it's crazy.
Ash Posted June 20, 2012 Posted June 20, 2012 I've seen a lot of reports that these orders are being cancelled as they were obvious misprices. Someone must have pressed the wrong button in the database or something.
Ash Posted June 21, 2012 Posted June 21, 2012 (edited) Amazon.Es seem to have most of the new Star Wars sets for around 30% off. Some are not in stock, but you can still buy them. This includes Jabba's Palace, The Malevolance, Desert Skiff and the Sith Fury interceptor. I put these four my basket and including postage (only 10 euro) to the UK it came to around £240 which is almost £100 less than what they're listed for at retail in the UK. I was so excited I wrote a blog post about it that has a bit more details. The prices are also on the Brick Badger Star Wars page. I can't get all four at the moment and am torn between The Sith Inteceptor or splurging on the Palace + Skiff. Just noticed they have loads of other stuff 30% off as well including Falcon, Turbo Tank, X-wing etc. Note: If Brick Badger is showing a higer price and it's greyed out this is because Amazon is listing it as temporarily out of stock and it's defaulting to a third party. Follow the link then switch to the offers page "NUEVO" and you'll see the cheaper Amazon offer and can add that to your basket. Edit: Someone's just informed me that this is actually quite an old sale and they've been at these prices for a while! Oh well, I thought I was onto some breaking news or something. Either way it's still a good deal and had been under my radar, and apparently they do honour these prices. Certainly a lot cheaper than getting them in the UK, that's for sure. llb Posted June 21, 2012 Posted June 21, 2012 (edited) Ash, thanks for the info - was hoping they would have LOTR sets but by the looks of it they only have Gandalf Arrives (and I think they might be through a 3rd party) Will defo keep my eye out! Edit: the German Amazon has LOTR sets but not really any savings to be had... Edited June 21, 2012 by llb
Ash Posted June 21, 2012 Posted June 21, 2012 (edited) I'm keeping a close eye on those as well! I have Weathertop coming from the US (with postage it's still a bit under UK retail) but wouldn't mind a couple of the other sets as well. They (spain) have Helm's Deep and Moria for around 20% off, shipping in 3 to 5 weeks. Getting both with postage is £170 which is.... pretty much exactly UK retail... so no joy there! I've been informed by PM that the Star Wars deal has actually been around for a month or so. And here I was thinking I had a scoop! On the plus side it's confirmed that these are legit prices and they do ship to the UK at a flat rate no matter how much you buy. Edited June 21, 2012 by Ash

Ash Posted June 21, 2012 Posted June 21, 2012 Is that from Bricklink? (Weathertop) Nah, a friend in the US when it was discounted on Amazon last week. It's gone back up now but it was 25% off (around $45). Probably a price match with Barnes and Noble who had a sale on them.
Praiter Yed Posted June 21, 2012 Posted June 21, 2012 The Porkins x-wing is down to £38 in Tescos. It's reduced to £38.47 at the Tescos near where I work and also more reductions on other LSW sets; Anakin's green Jedi interceptor reduced by around £7, Battle of Naboo approx £20, Planet Sets down to £7.97 and Endor Battle Packs also at £7.97.
into the blue Posted June 23, 2012 Posted June 23, 2012 Strolled in to my branch of WH Smiths this morning and was surprised to see they are selling the Olympic minigures sets. Yep, that's right, they're on sale NOW.
charlieboy Posted June 23, 2012 Posted June 23, 2012 Which WHSmiths is that? I've just phoned my nearest seven branches and all but one told me they wouldn't have them for atleast another week possibly two. The seventh store had no idea what I was talking about
into the blue Posted June 23, 2012 Posted June 23, 2012 (edited) WH Smiths in Llanelli, south Wales. I don't think they were meant to be put out. There were three boxes behind the girl at the counter and when I asked if they had any more, she said that's all they had. I mentioned that they weren't meant to be out until next week and she just shrugged and said, "We had them in today so we started selling them." Edited June 23, 2012 by into the blue
Zilcho Posted June 23, 2012 Posted June 23, 2012 Does anyone know what it is like importing from America? Is there a large amount of import tax or something like that? I really want some lotr :)
Big Pete Posted June 23, 2012 Posted June 23, 2012 Does anyone know what it is like importing from America? Is there a large amount of import tax or something like that? I really want some lotr :) Read this ... http://www.hmrc.gov.uk/customs/index.htm But you may be liable for Customs Duty and Import VAT depending on the value of the goods. Since the LOTR sets will be available in the UK soon enough, why not just wait ?

Big Pete Posted June 23, 2012 Posted June 23, 2012 They are much cheaper there. You can get Helms deep and uruk army for under £100 (Excluding other costs) you'll most likely need to pay VAT on that ... plus the postage won't be cheap. I'd wait for a sale when they're out here if I were you ... you can almost without fail get at least 20% off sets in the UK if you wait a few months after release.
llb Posted June 24, 2012 Posted June 24, 2012 Treated myself to Uruk Hai Army from Barnes and Noble and came to roughly £25 after shipping - will let you know about any other charges if they apply. One guy said he ordered Helms Deep and had to pay £27 in custom tax....I guess the box is pretty big though..
Dr Leg O Brick Posted June 24, 2012 Posted June 24, 2012 House of Fraiser stock a very good selection of Lego (at least in Birmingham), including the City Farm, City corner, the smaller sets from the Kingdoms line, some old impulse sets and some other EOL sets at RRP. They also had the second wave of Power miners and Space Police a few years ago. Deffently worth a look.
charlieboy Posted June 25, 2012 Posted June 25, 2012 Olympic minifigs are on the shelves at WHSmith's in London Road, Brighton. They had one full box and one with about 1/4 left. As someone said before they are priced up at £1.99 on the boxes but scan on the til at £2.49! I got two complete sets at £1.99 each, make sure you watch those prices
martyboy70 Posted June 27, 2012 Posted June 27, 2012 The 7915 Imperial V-wing Starfighter can be had for £12.31 instead of £21.99 with free delivery from ELC here by using the code CROCODILE at the checkout.
lukeyboymac Posted June 28, 2012 Posted June 28, 2012 My local WH Smiths are now selling the Olympic minifigures. Prices up to £2.49 but on the back of a receipt is £5 off a £15 spend so that makes it more reasonable.

It's not so much the size of the box as a flat-rate for VAT. The problem is that if you do get charged VAT when it's imported into the country they also charge a handling fee on top of this (last time I think it was £9 for me) which really sucks! If it's an international retailer and they charge you VAT at the point of purchase you don't have to pay the fee. Amazon does this. The cool thing about Amazon is that if your package slips through the net and you don't get charged VAT then they refund it to you. Obviously you can't get Lego though so it's kind of moot (It's good for shoes though! I order most of my shoes through the US, pay about half the UK price, including postage, and most of the time VAT is refunded). Unfortunately most stores don't. If you're getting a friend to buy something you can generally escape paying VAT by having them value it low or mark it as a gift. However the postage tends to be pretty expensive for individuals sending stuff from the US. All this stuff eats into any savings. I've got a couple of things from the US and by the time you add everything up it's usually a little cheaper, but possibly not worth the hassle.
