Hinckley Posted January 30, 2009 Posted January 30, 2009 OK, please post who your vote is for and I will tally them myself (We're doing it this way just so people who shouldn't be voting, don't Not that I don't trust my secret competitors... just a precaution) Here are the entries for the final round. These were the rules for their last entry: Challenge 10-build whatever you like-with some small requirements Build a model that shows who you are as a person and a builder. You have full creative control over your final entry. Make this a work of art or a re-imagining of your favorite MOC, but make sure it reflects your "philosophy" as a builder. Treat this as if the LEGO group has offered you a chance to work for them as a model designer and they want to see your best work! You will have one month to complete this challenge. You must select one Jury member to use as a side coach to bounce your work off of for constructive criticism. Each Jury member can only be used by one remaining participant, so it's first come, first serve. Call who you want as soon as you can. Entry must be built after today-you cannot enter something you have previously built. Must feature three specific elements that mean something to you: 1. Your favorite element.2. An element from an early MOC you did that you were proud of.3. An element from your all-time favorite (self-made) MOC. There is no piece limit. Self-made custom elements or decals are allowed. No clone brands. No collages. No photoshopping backgrounds. Entry must be photographed on a white or neutral background. Please use a title and description for your MOC and include a description of your 3 special pieces. Take your time in deciding, these guys have made quite an investment in this contest... Entry 1 Jury Member Mentor: Deinonychus Title: Baron von Baron's Chateau Decription: Baron von Baron's European hideaway. Beyond the solid fences and gate, a marble fountain bubbles outside the mansion, which is packed full of exotic antiquities plundered from around the world. The lower floor features a dining room and kitchen. The upper floor features a fully furnished bedroom and study. An unshown third floor holds an attic filled with more exotic loot. Includes, Baron von Baron, Sam Sinister and Alexis Sinister. How it Reflects my Style: I rarely ever build anything not on a baseplate. Deinonychus also observed: "as a builder, you tend towards large, solidly built structures. Also, you have a good eye for taking themes and concepts LEGO works with, and you flesh them out into a more substantial ideal of what more experienced builders would like sets to be." It is also a MOC I've had in mind for a couple years, but never got around to doing. Finally, it is a fusion between my two favorite themes, Castle and Adventurers. The 3 Elements: 1. My favorite element: the 1x2 brick; I think there are hardly any of my MOCs that do not use this element. It's versitile and necessary to almost any MOC. 2. An element from an early MOC: the door/shutter hinge, another of my favorite elements, used in this MOC, the earliest MOC I have a photograph of. And I still think it looks quite spiffy... 3. An element from my favorite MOC: the windows, which comes from the Viking Village, my largest and most time consuming MOC. __________________________________________ Entry 2 Pictures : Description : Go down the street and look around you! There are so many things to discover! When the children are not quietly playing in their homes, they do some mighty silly things that make the policeman run! But don't worry for him, for he knows where to go to discuss the daily adventures with the factor - at the pub! Pull up a stool and join them for a pint! But if you're at work and miss the factor, don't worry! You can visit the Post Office to pick up your LEGO S@H order, and make some photocopies of building instructions! The street sweeper keeps downtown sparkling, so the people can sit down on the benches and appreciate the beauty around them! Ah, isn't it great being a minifigure? my favorite element : the cypress tree , the more beautifull LEGO tree IMO! (thanks again for this present! ) an element used in an early MOC : my LEGO wii that I have made in a vig representing my room in my parents house (I'm building the Eiffel Tower... and an element used in my favorite MOC : the 1x2 tile , a very simple piece but always usefull for a lot of things! __________________________________________ Entry 3 Judicial - Magistrate Class Patrol Ship Judicial's usual role is to be a visual force presence to keep the many outposts, moons, planets and stations of the Accord believing that they are safe. For this reason it's a smallish yet flexible ship. It has a class 2 D-Drive allowing relatively fast trips between waystations and twin Bussard electromagnetic scoops so given time it can refuel itself. Due to the full size directional thrusters and the extra port on the main drive Magistrate ships are capable of full load landings in small spaces; even sustained hovers and lifting can also be achieved, which is quite impressive for a interstellar ship. The exact configuration of Magistrate ships varies, but Judicial has a large omni-directional dual mode (full or sequential, depending on the target) quad plasma cannon, two fixed rear plasma cannons, and six omni-directional plasma dispersers, The plasma dispersers are a point defence weapon, able to destroy missiles and with the right timing they can negate enemy plasma fire. In addition it has a single fixed forward plasma cannon. This is a modified version of the type fitted to Judgement class destroyers, which have around 100 times the fusion output. Judicial is capable of firing this once or twice before needing to retreat for refuelling. In practice this is used rarely as Magistrate ships generally work alone and thus it's an all-or-nothing weapon. However it was added to give the ships a use in a war. Due to the need to survive repeated atmosphere re-entries Magistrate ships don't carry a lot of active sensors, but some (like Judicial) have a retractable active sensor up front. To assist Judicial in her missions she carries 4 multipurpose robotic probes and one shuttle. When the shuttle is mated it's also used as the pilot house of the combined ship, but this is not a requirement. It is a good precaution when docking however. Judicial normally carries 4 crew members; a pilot, a marine, a technician and a commander. Your favorite element. One of my favourite elements is the Rubber Band holder. Even though TLG never seem to have done it themselves, it's great that they added pinholes to them so they can be used as parts. I just love how even LEGO rubbish is useful! It took me a while to get this many though... An element from an early MOC you did that you were proud of. I used a dome piece off my ship Impartial; it was from the main sensor and it's used as roof detail in Judicial An element from your all-time favorite (self-made) MOC. In the central front Fusion plant I needed two dark grey Castle Turret Tops to help give a rough rounded shape that's structurally strong. As it turned out I had just two, so I needed to source the second from my fortified Windmill... __________________________________________ Entry 4 Dutch 18th century yacht. She is loosely based on the statenjacht ''Utrecht''. These ships were used to sail VIP's around and stay in contact with the big ships mored off shore. Later in time these were beginning to be private owned by rich merchants and is basically the start of the yachts we know today. I always like to build as realistic as i can. Add as many details as i can and get a close to real life result. Other then string and sails, nothing non lego has been used. My favourite part, the 1x2 jumper plate is used, this part is used in all my MOCs. This includes my oldest ship ''the Denise'', and my all time favourite MOC ''La Mort Royal''. In the last picture you see that i think Lego should also be about having fun and i't is nice to meet people on the forum in real life at meetings and events. __________________________________________ Take your time in deciding, these guys have made quite an investment in this contest...
Patriot720 Posted January 30, 2009 Posted January 30, 2009 (edited) These are superb entries, and the idea of a secret contest is great! But I'm going to have to put my vote on the Judicial - Magistrate Class Patrol Ship. I like the color scheme and the use of the rubber band holders Edited January 30, 2009 by Patriot720
Lego12 Posted January 30, 2009 Posted January 30, 2009 Wow! I just spent 30 minutes looking at all of the entries and deciding who to vote for! They're all so good! Great job guys! Ok, I thought the first one was very nicely dine. The interior was very good. The second one was big and it had many details, but the inside of the building, I felt missed tiled floors. That would have been much better IMHO. The third one is big as well. I like all of the pieces and creativity. The detachability was a great idea as well. The last one was very cool, but I felt that it was a tad to small, but nevertheless a great ship. I enjoyed looking at all of the entries, but I'll have to go with: Entry 1 I just feel attracted to it. Its a great model with many details. Whoever built this is a great MOCer as are the other builders, but I especially liked this one. Great job! May the best MOCer win!
Eurobricks Emperor Bonaparte Posted January 30, 2009 Eurobricks Emperor Posted January 30, 2009 Hard choice as these are all of an extraordinary quality. My vote goes to Entry 4 as I just love that little Dutch 18th century yacht. Those sail are just
Zorro Posted January 30, 2009 Posted January 30, 2009 Entry 4 Wow, nice entries men! I really wonder to who they might belong! I love the second one, the orange/reddish spaceship! And its detachable! The mini-robots and such... BUT my vote goes to number four! That beautiful luxury ship! The sails are awesome, the minifigs are abundant and funny (I even recognize some of them.) Sinner and his girlfriend sure like lying in the sun a lot it seems!
Marko Posted January 30, 2009 Posted January 30, 2009 I vote for entry nr 2 - large, detailed and authentic. Specially I liked the interiors and facades.
Governor Mister Phes Posted January 30, 2009 Governor Posted January 30, 2009 All these entries are stunning! But of course, being bias towards the Age of Sail Entry 4 - Dutch 18th century yacht. gets my vote.
Captain Blackmoor Posted January 30, 2009 Posted January 30, 2009 This was a hard choice... All these entries are !!! I've voted for the Dutch 18th century yacht. I'm planning to make this ship too because it's small but very nicely. The rigging is a big +, the hull looks great too. I've seen this beauty in real and it's almost the same as the ship you've build! You didn't even forget the swords on the hull. I've voted for this but all other entries have my compiments as well! Great builds!!
El Bucanero Posted January 30, 2009 Posted January 30, 2009 Lovely entries but I vote for.....: Entry 4 of course! It's Dutch, and it floats. 'Nuff said!
Hinckley Posted January 31, 2009 Author Posted January 31, 2009 Wow! Everyone's on the board. Great job guys. I have to say I'm so impressed with the final outcome and the quality of these MOCs. They're so beautiful!! Thanks for putting so much work into this contest, secret guys ( are they really secret anymore? ) Hi Tiber!
Darth Legolas Posted January 31, 2009 Posted January 31, 2009 Entry 2. Definitely! Looks like a lot of effort was put into that, My second vote would be for entry one.
eti Posted January 31, 2009 Posted January 31, 2009 I hadn't heard of this competition before - is there a link to previous rounds so I can find out what it is all about? for example, am I alowed to vote?
Zepher Posted January 31, 2009 Posted January 31, 2009 4 looks the best! Fantastic job to everyone. However, the secret of who is who is ruined by the pictures for some of them, which act as links to that person's brick-shelf/whatever site.
Siegfried Posted January 31, 2009 Posted January 31, 2009 I hadn't heard of this competition before - is there a link to previous rounds so I can find out what it is all about? for example, am I alowed to vote? Here's the others, and everyone can vote. 9 Interior 8 21st Century Pirates 7 Ruins 6 Monkey Flying Vessel 5 Monkey Trap 4 Sailing Vessel 3 Shelter 2 Survival Kit 1 Tribes However, the secret of who is who is ruined by the pictures for some of them, which act as links to that person's brick-shelf/whatever site. I think the secret was ruined a long time ago!
Zepher Posted January 31, 2009 Posted January 31, 2009 Shush. Don't burst my "I figured something out." Bubble.
Erdbeereis Posted January 31, 2009 Posted January 31, 2009 My vote goes to entry number 2. Lovely modular street, with tons of detail and great architecture. All of the entries are magnificent though!
Hinckley Posted January 31, 2009 Author Posted January 31, 2009 eti, everyone can vote. I'll be leaving random comments to mark my place so I can keep a tally...
Wouwie Posted January 31, 2009 Posted January 31, 2009 My vote goes to the 18th century Statenjacht! I love that ship! I want it
Sandy Posted January 31, 2009 Posted January 31, 2009 Although the description doesn't fill all the requirements, I have to give my vote for Entry 2. It's simply most to my taste, with the beautiful architecture, loads of minifigs and vibrant colors. But all of these MOCs are outstanding, I have to say! Well done, all you secret people!
Matija Posted January 31, 2009 Posted January 31, 2009 My vote goes for nr.4! Never enough parties :)
El Bucanero Posted January 31, 2009 Posted January 31, 2009 Hi Tiber! Hi Hinck...! Now that was random..
The Crazy One Posted January 31, 2009 Posted January 31, 2009 My vote goes for ..... ' Drum role ' Entry Number 2. ' Cheering from the crowd ' I love the shape of the buildings, the interior has alot of detail and very acurate designs, the road and street lights and a lot of caring work. Good job!
SlyOwl Posted January 31, 2009 Posted January 31, 2009 Number 2 for me, although I liked the others a lot (especially number 1 - I know I'm not a townie, but Sam Sinister + tan + crenelations = ).
Hinckley Posted January 31, 2009 Author Posted January 31, 2009 My vote goes to number 2 Your vote doesn't count as you were part of the competition... Goofball.
