dieselboy m Posted February 2, 2009 Posted February 2, 2009 (edited) To the mods/admins of Eurobricks, would it be okay if I were to use the EB emoticons in my LEGO photos and/or LEGO photo comics? Here's an example of some one-shot pics where I've tried using the EB emoticons... If it wouldn't be okay, I understand, and I'll remove the ones I've used and not use any of them again. But, if I would be allowed to, I will credit Eurobricks (and/or the owner/creator of the emoticons if provided with the information) in the credits of my photo comics. Thanks in advance! Hinckley Posted February 2, 2009 Posted February 2, 2009 We'll discuss it and let you know soon... Quote

Shadows Posted February 2, 2009 Posted February 2, 2009 While nothing has been decided yet regarding the official EB set of emoticons, if you're looking for something similar but different, still incorporating LEGO, you may want to contact member BrickheadProductions, who posted this thread offering a set of his own for our use. Beyond that, I honestly think you're better off not using any. Emoticons are really just a way to convey emotion when words aren't enough, but since you're able to incorporate images in your work, they shouldn't be necessary. It's all a matter of presenting the story well enough that the feelings are obvious instead of having to hit the reader over the head with obvious cues. Just my opinion, though, and clearly up to you to decide what works best for you. Quote
VBBN Posted February 2, 2009 Posted February 2, 2009 On another note, where is that girl's torso from? Quote
Alice Posted February 2, 2009 Posted February 2, 2009 (edited) It appears in the Steven Spielberg Moviemaker Set. That is the only set it appears in actually. The torso is priced from 8-15 USD on Bricklink. Also, I'm not sure that the emoticons add much. Edited February 2, 2009 by Alice Quote
VBBN Posted February 2, 2009 Posted February 2, 2009 Ah thanks. Quite expensive...Ah well. And agreed, the emotions don't seem to add much to the comic. In this case, the smilies aren't saying 1000 words. Quote
LuxorV Posted February 3, 2009 Posted February 3, 2009 Ah thanks. Quite expensive...Ah well. Well, you can find a less expensive version of that torso here (click on the third decal name) And agreed, the emotions don't seem to add much to the comic. In this case, the smilies aren't saying 1000 words. Speaking as a once (and only for a short time) comic maker, I agree with what has already been said: the comic itself is the medium of your humor and fantasy. Adding smilies to it could produce the impression you are too unsure of your intent, and need to over-assure yourself that your sketches will be understood. LuxorV Quote
