i have sent in multiple requests for pirate legos like peter pan, one piece, even potc but every time i get a letter back to become a designer <<here>> and i get really really mad >:-( >:-( >:-(

That sentence doesn't quite make sense! It appears to be missing some words, what happens when you get a response letter that causes you to get made?

I think you're both confused, one doesnt want to be a designer and the other doesnt want to get made, or is that mad?

Getting a license for PeterPan or POTC would be a bad thing though. For one, all the minifigs would be fleshies, and nobody likes those, right?

Well, he does....

The problem is, flesh colour is too light, Jack Sparrow isn't that light, he is..errr...roasted....as for Will Turner, it doesn't fits them! Yellow un-licensed minifigs rule!!!!

I don't think he was trying to say that, he sais what could happen if there would be a new theme savvy??

If they mean become a lego designer working for LEGO, You should accept the job, to design sets for a new Pirate theme!

Yeah, I'll accept a job as the designer for a new Pirate LEGO theme. Although given the changes within LEGO since the previous Pirate theme I might not like it too much if they place too many restrictions on me or force me to use those stupid bright colours!

Sorry if this is seen as getting ahead of things but I'm interested in seeing what the Pirate faithful are thinking.

In light of Castle's move to "fantasy" (Orks, Trolls and Skellies) do you think we'll see Fantasy Pirates? Take advantage of the popularity of Pirares of the Carribean?

I know that Lego has already dipped in the fantasy pool with the Mermaid and "Kracken" etc. But I'm thinking full on dedication to a seafaring faction on fishmen or ghouls or what have you.

I believe the mermaid on Brickbeard's Bounty is intended to be a decoration on the front of the ship, not a real mermaid. And, as far as the kraken goes it was widely believed by many sailors that there were enormous beasts that lived in the sea. Since they had seen giant octopi and squid they thought these were some kind of terrible beasts. The belief that kraken were real was part of sea lore. Now we know them as giant squid, but to the sailors back then they were ship eating monsters and were feared above all else.

I don't really think that LEGO is taking a fantasy approach to the pirates as I feel that would hurt the sales of the castle line. I think the pirates line will be historical, though not really accurate.

While I don't expect this to happen anytime soon, I think by the 4th or 5th year we may very well see fantasy, as you can only do so much with semi-realistic pirates. Sure, TLC, can do Islanders, Spanish, and maybe even Chinese or other brand new factions, but they can only do it this way for so long.

Also, for people that don't want fantasy pirates because they hate fantasy, realize that you are in the minority when it comes to this. Whether you like it or not, people need to realize that fantasy sells - just look at the success of the new Castle line. It probably wouldn't have done nearly as well with the kids if they had just had two human factions. The dragons and skeletons, dwarves and trolls really grab kids' eyes, and they're also appreciated by many adult fans as well. Not saying you have to like it, I'm just saying that you can't really blame TLC if they go this route eventually. :pir-wink:

I agree that the "fantasy" elements so far are harly compareable to the Castle line's take and are easily explainable as real world things.

Here, I disagree. I see the success of the Trolls and Orcs et al to be a precursor to a Barbosa or Davey Jones-esque "villian". Lego has clearly "seen the light" and playing up the good vs evil, more cartoonish angles in all their lines. (See: Agents)

I think it's only a matter of time.

I agree about the kraken, but I don't think fantasy pirates would hurt castle. I mean why would it hurt sales on castle? :pir-sceptic:

Agreed. You are unfortunately right. :pir-cry_sad:

I sincerely hope they don't make fantasy pirates. I hate fantasy. :pir-sick:

I was certain this post would garner responses such as this.....

I couldn't disagree more but, I know there are fervent Pirates fans that share your sentiment and I respect that.

In all honesty it depends on what your definition of fantasy is. If you mean the kraken, or a ghostly ship crewed by skeletons sailing out of the mist, I think it would be okay if TLC decided to put that into the pirate theme. But it is possible to go overboard like they did with castle.

In my opinion the mermaid in Brickbeard's Bounty is meant to use both as a decoration as well as a real mermaid - otherwise they would've just made all yellow or pearl gold or something.

As for the direction that the Pirates could be heading, I'm not sure about fantasy, since the Castle line pretty much covers it down to the ghostly ship, but perhaps we will see a fully-fledged port with civilians in the future, and maybe even new islanders.

But we don't know yet how the Pirates will do in the market - if we're really unlucky, they might not continue the theme at all. :sceptic:

so , people, buy all the sets ! and lego will continue the theme!^^

I say that if it goes a "fantasy way" ( and as Sandy, I doubt about it ) , Idon't really care, you'll just have to buy the sets that are not full of fantasy thing, or just buy them then modify it^^

I'm pretty sure we know how they're doing in the market; Pirates are the first line I've seen other than SW that Lego's put a buy limit on - now THAT'S saying something!

Anywho, on the topic at hand, I'm fairly certain that it'll continue as it is now - mostly historic, with the occasional smattering of myth in one or two sets per release. I'm fine with it that way; I won't be buying KA anyways (Let the Pirate fans have their figures, I want the soldiers =P)...

Fantasy Pirates would be a disgrace to Pirates and Castle both.

Wahoo!!!!!! Someone who agrees with me!

Fantasy Pirates would be a disgrace to Pirates and Castle both.

Why?

A ghost ship would be a disgrace? A seaserpent? The Siren Song? Mer-Folk? Magic?

Now, I don't want to drop the Troll War Ship in my Pirate set up but I'm excited at the prospect of some seafaring legends popping up!

I think a ghost ship and sea serpent would be fine, but The Siren Song............... too ancient :pir_laugh2:
