ILikePi Posted February 19, 2009 Posted February 19, 2009 (edited) Yeah, the upcoming AT-OT set doesn't seem like UCS to me. It has all the features of a set meant to play played with. There's 8 flick-fire missiles on the wings, and 8 more in the place behind the Wampa/droid's-head-being-ripped-off-by-a-severed-clone-arm sticker. That's a regular set to me. OptimusPrime12380 Posted February 19, 2009 Posted February 19, 2009 OK lets see, Many people have many opinions on this but here's my veiw:UCS sets: Are BIG. Are Expencive. Are Detailed. Are Iconic Ships Have a Display Plaque (OR they are a statue type thing) Having a Display Plaque is the main part for me. Here's the list of sets i would say are UCS 7181: TIE Interceptor 7191: X-wing Fighter 7194: Yoda 10018: Darth Maul 10019: Rebel Blockade Runner 10026: Special Edition Naboo Starfighter 10030: Imperial Star Destroyer 10129: Rebel Snowspeeder 10134: Y-wing Attack Starfighter 10143: Death Star II 10174: Imperial AT-ST 10175: Vader's TIE Advanced 10179: Ultimate Collector's Millennium Falcon 10186: General Grievous And i have Brickset on my side! That's right, Not: Sandcrawler Death Star Cloud City Etc. Those are my thoughts exactly, good job on the list ...ashame I didn't think of it first. Quote
CommanderCody77 Posted February 19, 2009 Posted February 19, 2009 I think a UCS Anakin Skywalker that is Clone Wars Note: When I mean Anakin Skywalker I mean like UCS Yoda and UCS Maul Quote
TheTacoMan Posted February 19, 2009 Posted February 19, 2009 To be consider a true UCS set for me, it has to be an ULTIMATE COLLECTOR'S model that the mini-figure scale sets just don't offer. Tons of detail on the exterior, doesn't need a fancy interior with play features, focuses on being built to display, and most important comes with the tell-tale UCS plague. With that said, I don't consider the Death Star playset or the Sandcrawler true UCS sets, even though they are pricey they still have playset features that are geared towards kids. IDK about you, but i'm 20 and i love playing with my Death Star XD. Plus im sure no kid would be able to afford it... $600 was even pretty steep for me!! Plus the death star is PERFECT for display, even if you don't touch it or use the play features. I keep mine proudly on display in my room, and everyone who comes over instantly recognizes all the scenes Quote

I build to display a cool collectible so that's why my standards for UCS are set higher, heck I don't even "play" with my transformers anymore. I set them in a pose on a shelf and that's that. Besides, if I want to collect mini-figure playsets, there's this company called Hasbro that makes some awesome 3 1/2" figures, cool vehicles and playsets. drdavewatford Posted February 19, 2009 Author Posted February 19, 2009 I also vote for Legoman's definition of what a UCS set is - he's got it right I reckon. Dr. D. Quote
Anio Posted February 20, 2009 Posted February 20, 2009 I read many discussions about the number of UCS. In my point of view, there are 13 UCS : 7181, 7191, 7194, 10018, 10019, 10026, 10129, 10030, 10134, 10143, 10174, 10175 and 10179. Sets like 10144, 10188, 10178 or 10186 (and may be some other sets) are juste Collector models. TLC also confirmed this list. I read it some days ago on FBTB. Quote
Legoman Posted February 20, 2009 Posted February 20, 2009 Although, 10026 was a peice of crap. I call it a UCS, but unwillingly. Seriously, 7660 was better than that AND $20 less. Seriously... UCS sets should be BIG, GREAT ship... What a let down I Really want a UCS Standard TIE. 10th anniverary. Perfect. Please Please don't kill me. But i have to say this. IF LEGO EVER RELEASES A UCS CLONE WARS SET, I WILL DIE. I know people here may want them, but IMO it would be a bad move by lego. Here's why: Lego is a KIDS toy (believe it or not ) To most young kids, CW IS star wars, which is why lego is flooding out CW sets. However, It also works the other way. Lego works to bring out CW sets for the kids. Hence why most UCS sets have been OT. KIDS want sets to be fun, not big ships that they can't lift and that just sit there. Where as AFOL's (and some TFOLS) like UCS ships as collector's items, that they just display. CW is aimed at kids, where as the real movies are based at youth/Adults. What kid wants a big ship from their favourite TV show to just sit there looking useless. And what AFOL want Therefore, UCS sets are more likely to be OT Quote
Oky Posted February 20, 2009 Posted February 20, 2009 I Really want a UCS Standard TIE. Are you kidding me? That would be the most boring thing ever! Just slab some wedged plates together and replace 'em with the wings on your UCS TIE Interceptor and - tada! - you have a UCS TIE Fighter. Sorry, I just can't stand TIEs anymore. They're so stupid and boring. IF LEGO EVER RELEASES A UCS CLONE WARS SET, I WILL DIE.... UCS sets are more likely to be OT What about PT? PT is for adults too and it has most of the vehicles seen in the clone wars. If TLC were to release, say, a UCS RGS, would you die then too? Besides, all of the interesting ships from the OT have been done already, so it would have to be the PT's turn. Quote

They're so stupid and boring. As much as i know what you mean about it being easy to build yourself, i like it better when lego does stuff themselves. I'm not much of a MOCer BUT... I'm not so sure i aggree that tie'a res boring. Sure, they've been way over-done by lego, but i still want a UCS one... What about PT? Well they tried a Naboo fighter and that was... err.... crap. But then again Maul was excellent. I wouldn't mind a UCS gunship, but there are more i would rather On the hole, PT sets are fine by me, it's just there aren't many iconic ships there... Quote

This reminds me on a poll from starwars.com where you could choose a new UCS set. Candidates were R2-D2, Vulture Droid, Medic Droid (from the end of ROTS) and the walking AT-AT. Well, I personally would love a continuation of the UCS line, but with less children-aimed sets like Walking AT-AT who has a terrible design and is just interessant because of the walking function. I hope that LEGO comes to the fantastic idea to release a real UCS AT-AT in the correct minifigure scale like the Falcon. Edited February 20, 2009 by Navy Trooper Fenson Quote
Anio Posted February 20, 2009 Posted February 20, 2009 (edited) IF LEGO EVER RELEASES A UCS CLONE WARS SET, I WILL DIE. I agree with you : a UCS mustn't be a CW model. CW models are so boring. -_- I hope that LEGO comes to the fantastic idea to release a real UCS AT-AT in the correct minifigure scale like the Falcon. With the 10178, it seems to be impossible that TLC release a new AT-AT. Edit : the 10026 is AWESOME !!!! :D Edited February 20, 2009 by Anio Quote
Future74 Posted February 20, 2009 Posted February 20, 2009 A real collector doesnt make a point about the what is or what is not a USC model, he collects them both... I agree with you : a UCS mustn't be a CW model. CW models are so boring. -_- Disagreed, see below: Just thought of 2 that could only been done well as UCS, Dooku's ships, the invisible hand, and the malevolence. Point made: these would make excellent CW UCS models. Playable or not. With the 10178, it seems to be impossible that TLC release a new AT-AT. Agreed, TLC will most probably NOT make/release a new AT-AT with this set still available. Quote
KimT Posted February 20, 2009 Posted February 20, 2009 10186: General Grievous If the General is a UCS set, why aren't the rest of the pesky technic sets too? He's nothing but a technic built model which is much the same as the ones done with: Darth Vader Stormtrooper R2D2 C3P0 Pit Droid Hailfire Droid and so forth. Check the review index for a complete list of those. Doesn't it say "Ultimate Collector's Set" on the 10188 Death Star? Wouldn't that make it a UCS? We've seen plenty of different UCS designs over the past ten years, so saying that it has to have that special design is a little difficult, since we don't know how the next UCS set's box-design would be. Quote
Anio Posted February 20, 2009 Posted February 20, 2009 To my mind, TLC will not produce new UCS anymore. :/ Quote
KimT Posted February 20, 2009 Posted February 20, 2009 To my mind, TLC will not produce new UCS anymore. :/ Wrong. 2010 will most definately have UCS sets again. Quote
DarthSion Posted February 20, 2009 Posted February 20, 2009 Lego has listed the ATOT as UCS, just because some users dont see it as UCS just because its CW not OT doesnt change the fact that it is UCS, and i think you will find Home One will be UCS. Quote
Commander Flash Posted February 20, 2009 Posted February 20, 2009 Only one set remains in the OT that would be a great display. The Executor, Vader's Flagship. $500 so it could be the most accurate UCS without minifigures. Quote
Commander Flash Posted February 20, 2009 Posted February 20, 2009 We just got one, so I doubt we will get another soon. Quote
CommanderCody77 Posted February 20, 2009 Posted February 20, 2009 What do you think TLC will make in 2010 for UCS, I would want something in the Clone Wars Quote
Commander Flash Posted February 20, 2009 Posted February 20, 2009 Venator would be nice. Its probably one of the only good displayable ones. Quote
DarthSion Posted February 20, 2009 Posted February 20, 2009 Why would lego make a venator UCS when they are releasing a venator this year. Quote
Commander Flash Posted February 20, 2009 Posted February 20, 2009 I do not know but its the only good display of the clone wars and PT, Quote
Anio Posted February 20, 2009 Posted February 20, 2009 10195, even if it is a big set (1700 parts), it is definitely not a UCS. There is not enough details. Actually, it looks like #7676 and #7675. Quote
