Good god that blows.

If there's anything positive to take from this, it's that no one involved did anything "bad" or irresponsible.

His folks were just trying to make him happy, who would expect such a thing to happen, even with asthma?

Lego's not facing a lawsuit in any way, as it's not wrong to just make a set awesome...

...it's just a steaming pile of "unfortunate".

Terrible.

It's things like this that make me feel that this kid MUST have gone a better place. Without faith in something, what is this father to do?

Life works in sad and mysterious ways. Sometimes it is man's fault, and sometimes...sometimes it's like we have no control over anything. By the way, if you read the article carefully, the poor child collapsed before opening the present, so he didn't actually know what it was. Just the excitement--I remember feeling great excitement on birthdays and Christmas, I guess we all do, but we never would guess it could do this...

Makes you realize how lucky you are for each and every breath you take...

Not to downplay the value of the boy's life at all, but the sane approach to this is the same as one should feel when a beloved pet dies.

"Is their death a result of something evil you did?"

No.

"Did they love you and know you loved them right up until the very end?"

Yes.

"So there is no reason left to feel guilty or dishonor them with dark grieving, is there?"

No.

With that in mind, there will still be some grieving, and that's okay.

No faith in a higher power is even necessary if you can comprehend and or allow yourself to answer the 3 questions above correctly.

My condolences and prayers go out to the family especially the father. To lose a wife and son must be unimaginably painfull.

I'm no mod or anything, and I'm sure no one is being purposefully disrespectfull, but perhaps we could keep the "higher power" debate off this thread, in respect of the solem nature of the incident.

Gosh. That's really sad.

Now I don't feel so good about lego anymore.... Makes me think it's just a toy now. I'm not joking, this is really sad.

That really sad. It makes me feel like I should spend more time with my family and how I've taking it for granted. Today's my B-day and I kinda hope I dont get lego (not that I dont want it). I am truly sorry to hear the loss of a young Lego fan.

:cry_sad: Wow, what a bummer.

I'm slightly annoyed with the website where this article was posted since the caption says he was opening Christmas presents. It shows a lack of respect and attention on the part of their staff to not have the facts straight between the article and picture caption.

This is a very sad thing and my heart goes out to his family...

Very sad. Not the way I'd have expected Lego to kill someone either. I'd have guessed it'd have been by choking on a brick. Maybe that's just me, as I tend to hold my Lego parts in my mouth...

Very sad, I feel very sorry for the family. I know Lego brings joy and happiness to the world, I just never heard of it taking a life before. I just hope it wasn't the Death Star, or Millennium Falcon.

Oh, man, that's terrible... At such a young age. :sceptic:

If it would've happened to me, it couldn't have been a better time- he must've had a fine time before it happened. Snowball fights, presents. It's good to die happy- we don't know what happens after. :cry_happy:

This is extremely sad. All of the family's efforts to make the boy happy resulted in his death... what a tragic turn of events. I can't imagine how the father must have felt after that kind of shock.

I don't pray, but I hold the family in my thoughts. This is truly a terrible thing.
