KurttKrueger Posted February 11, 2009 Posted February 11, 2009 Greetings folks, Sorry for the somewhat misleading title, this is not a thread about be re-building the Batmobile, but rather a thread about re-creating it from individually bought parts. Basically, I've really got into the Lego Batman theme, partly due to the Lego Batman game, and mostly because I'm a comics nut. Of course, I would have to do this after TLC took their current line off sale... So I've been trawling the net looking for set 7781 (Batmobile: Two Face's Escape), as if I'm not going to be able to collect the entire range, I'd at least like the Batmobile. However, due to the highly collectable nature of the Batman sets, the current prices for sealed or used 7781 sets are extortionate. My question is then, would it be possible to buy the components needed to build just the Batmobile individually from Bricklink or pick-a-brick? Do you think I'd hit any walls with unique/hard to find pieces? Can anyone who owns the set shed some light onto this? Are the pieces mostly standard, or is this going to be a futile excercise to begin with? Thanks in advance for your help! Cheers, Kurtt Quote
Siegfried Posted February 11, 2009 Posted February 11, 2009 I own the set and, ignoring the Two-Face figure, nothing is especially rare or expensive. Quote
WetWired Posted February 11, 2009 Posted February 11, 2009 I tried doing exactly what you're talking about with cafe corner, I parted it out in brickstore and found that it wasn't really cheaper than RRP to do it that way. However as you said that batman set is way over RRP and you might find it's cheaper for that set to buy it per piece from bricklink. Quote
Patriot720 Posted February 12, 2009 Posted February 12, 2009 I think the gold wheels are exclusive to the set but I'm not very sure. Quote
Svelte Posted February 12, 2009 Posted February 12, 2009 I think the gold wheels are exclusive to the set but I'm not very sure. Even those are cheapy cheap on bricklink. At the time the curved slope 1x3 were rare but not any more. Ditto the 1x2 pearl gold grille tile which quickly became ubiquitous. You would save time by using the inventory on peeron and to see what parts you already have and then order just the missing stuff from BL. The Batmobile isn't a huge set either so it wouldn't take that long. It would probably be quicker than waiting to hear from everyone in this thread Quote
Millacol88 Posted February 12, 2009 Posted February 12, 2009 Ha ha. I got that set for twenty percent off just 6-8 months ago. If I had known I could get away with that price I would have never opened it. Back on topic, all these guys are right, parting it outs way cheaper. If all you want is the Batmobile then just buy those parts, not the ones for Two-Face's van. Quote

I'll think I'll take Svelte_copr's suggestion above and compile a wanted list on Bricklink and order it seperatly. Once thing I noticed though, is there doesn't seem to be the instrcutions for this set on PCSL. Obviously, I'll need a copy of the instructions to get the right parts, but I'm suprised that they haven't been scanned. Does anyone know if they're available online? If not, I'm happy to purchase a set, its not like they're expensive. One more thing on the subject of Batman. Has Robin's cycle ever been released in any Batman sets? Cheers, Kurtt Quote
