Hold on! What happened to "TPM was rubbish and OT owns all"? We finally get pics of the Tantive IV set, and you start complaining it's to similar to what's effectively its PT counterpart. The ships are supposed to be similar. They were made by the same manufacturing company! If you all seem to love OT so much, why are you complaining it's too similar to the Radiant VII?! Surely this would be the better choice for an OT fan?

And there's no point moaning about the interior. You should have known the ship would be a similar size to the Radiant VII set and would therefore have a small interior as well.

Also, at least we can confirm the set is ANH-based, not ROTS-based, as it's red, not blue. I know we all 'knew' it was to be from the OT, but nobody could be 100% certain. However, it seems to only have 8 engines, which is very inaccurate on LEGO's part. I hope that the other three are too small to see on these pictures, rather than not be there at all.

This won't be a set I'll be getting for several reasons. I won't have the money or the space to be able to purchase and keep it, plus I'm more of a PT fan and am happy with my Republic Cruiser. :classic:

Very nice. Can we get a partial translation on description in the bottom. I can't wait to find out what figures come with it. Maybe we will find out at Comic-Con.

Carbon copy of the republic cruiser - we'll be lucky to fit 2 people in the interior

I wouldn't say its a carbon copy. The front and back of both ships are different. Besides, the two original ships are similar, saying that this is like the Republic Cruiser is like saying that the CW Y-wing is like the classic one. The ships are different, yet similar, the point of this in the movie is to show transition.

As for the RBR, I think that it is a great set. I don't think I'll get it, but may reconsider if there is a decent interior and figures. Hopefully they don't pull a "midi-scale" and not include any...

When I first saw this I thought "Oh, nice! I'll definitely get that."

Then I checked the first post and saw "$200-250 USD" :hmpf_bad:

Is this price confirmed? Cmon Lego, looks like a $100 set :sadnew:

I agree. Surely this thing won't go for more than $150. It does look like a $100 set.

First off thanks for the pics

But I must say i am very dissapointed. :cry_sad: I was hoping for somthing spectacular. I kinda thought this was THE 10th annaversary set. But this? It looks more like a kiddy playset to me. It looks incredably jumbled together with all sorts of weird bits sticking out and odd colours.

I see tan, dk grey, those wepons are 5x as big as necessary...

Overall i'm really dissapointed. Admittably, i do think this is a very bad pic of the sets, and it may end up looking heaps betterin person, but still... It better not be the expected $250 :oh3:

Totally agree with you there. And I really like it's design. They captured it very well. As for the engines, I think there's space enough to put the three missing between the two rows we can see. Since there're only three, it should be narrower and the angle of the pic would hide them. At least I hope so...

What I think I will dislike though, is the cockpit... I was wondering how they managed that little window when I realised it's actually one HUGE sticker covering the whole of a transparent piece...

It's because many people think that the RC wasn't very well designed at all and had a very bad interior. There is no doubt that this set will still be better than the RC, but people were getting their hopes up that this set would be something spectacular.

And there's no point moaning about the interior. You should have known the ship would be a similar size to the Radiant VII set and would therefore have a small interior as well.

No, we shouldn't. The estimated price for this set was 150-250 dollars, so it was to be expected that it was big and had a detailed interior. But I guess that price can't be quite right.

And I agree that it's too early to moan about the interior, even though it probably wont be anything amazing at this scale.

Also, at least we can confirm the set is ANH-based, not ROTS-based, as it's red, not blue. I know we all 'knew' it was to be from the OT, but nobody could be 100% certain.

Why not? We all knew it from the start as the "Rebel Blockade Runner", and there is no way a PT ship could have been called that. However, there were speculations that it might include extra parts to transform it into the PT version, considering the high price. And I don't think that we can dismiss this possibility just yet.

I highly doubt it'll be a sticker as this piece was always printed before.

Well it's a sticker on the new midi-scaled Millennium Falcon so I wouldn't put it past them. :sadnew:

Meh, I'm really not seeing the need for another RBR; with the UCS version and the one they just released a couple years ago it just seems a little superfluous to put this one out so soon. I would have much rather seen something more original.

I guess I am the only person alive that likes this. You know what? That means there will be more for me. I plan on picking one up as soon as I can, I think it looks great, no matter what figs do and don't come with it. And if it's the same price or even close to price of Republic Cruiser than I will be able to get this one.

To me, the RBR looks pretty cool, but I probably won't be able to get it if it costs over $100, and I think the people at the forum that the pictures were found at said that the set will cost around 250 Euros...

Posted

Hey, shouldn't Hinckley give Jansued credit for finding those pictures? He was first to provide the link!

Anyway, I'm sad about the RBR. It's not too bad.... for a $90 set. This can't go for more than $150, or I'll consider it robbery.

And finally, the 3 in 1 combo packs are definitely the same. The comparison just made it more obvious! Vader's hidden in the corner!

Looking better at the RBR pics and searching around other forums I am starting to think that this could be a mid-scale set like the new MF  . Looking at the proportions it looks like one but the cockpit seems to fit minifigs. Also I counted the studs of the sides in the mid-section and seems to be 2 studs smaller than the Republic Cruiser :hmpf_bad: .

Everybody seems to dislike it here but I think its looks great. Sure Lego had to compromise with 8 engine bits instead of 11 but I think they had to do it to get the ship in proportion. I really like all the detailing on the engines and the mid section of the ship. What looks weird to me in my opinion is the two rotating turrets they seem quite large but it might just be the photo. Another part Im not sure about is the stickers! On the cockpit. If lego is going to put an outrageous price on this and still have crappy stickers that look terrible on it then this surely bumps down my liking for it.

If this is under $150 then I will get it but if this more then ill probably have to leave it.

Just take my word for it: There are 11 engines on this thing and no stickers (at least none for the cockpit). I just know it.

It's a much larger piece than on the Falcon, and there has only been one RBR before, which is unbelievably expensive on Bricklink.

What I was complaining about earlier was the build of the midsection. Aside from greebling and details and whatnot, the general shape of the midsection appears to be almost the exact same as on the Republic Cruiser.

I, for one, will not get it if the price is more than a penny above $125 USD. :hmpf_bad:

The reason these two ships look so similar is because they are MEANT to. The blockade runner is the very first ship you see in EP IV, the first of the OT. In an attempt to mirror that, Lucas made the Republic cruiser the first ship that you see in EP 1, and made it look very similar

My first impression of this set is that I like it. To me it has a "fun" factor. Does it have cons? Yeah, the gun turrets look too big, the engine section APPEARS too small (though I betcha they got all 11 in there), and there won't be hardly any room inside. But to be honest, in order to have a full inside capable of playing out some ANH scenes, the whole ship would be enormously massive (the engine section is easily twice the size of the mid section). In the end, for what we're able to get I'm happy.

This new RBR looks okay. I hope the price isn't as bad as some people have been saying, though. I don't mind the look of it, although it does look much to small to have a very good interior. I also think, like Oky, that there are 11 engines in there. They are just arranged in a 4/3/4 configuration, so we can't see the 3 in the middle. If the price is right I'll get this one. :sweet:

A few thoughts:

1) Usually in the back of the instructions for the Exclusive sets, when they publicise other sets such as the Taj, VW, Eiffel Tower, AT-OT etc, they normally just reproduce the art as it will ordinarily appear on the box. Even where they change the artwork, such as when placing modular houses together, they always manage to include the figs in some way. This leads me to believe, like darkrebellion, that the 10198 will be a fig-less midi-scale set.

2) Getting rid of the figs would mean they don't have to worry about an interior, which would look extremely limited from this pic, and would keep the costs down - perhaps this budget has been redistributed to printed cockpit pieces.

3) Those people fretting about the cost - I wouldn't panic. The prices from the Japanese catalogue when divided by 10 almost always match up with the Australian retail price when comparing sets between the countries. That puts this set Y2,490 to about $AUD250, which is a bit above the Venator and in line with the Cafe Corner price.

I agree with Oky Wan. I'm pretty sure that the cockpit is made up of trans-clear (or trans-black) half-cones with printed details. Or a special piece that is originally red/ white with a a little trans-clear/ trans-black window made into the base of both front half-cones. The designers would have black hearts if they want us to sticker giant half-cones.

No figs, no interior, no sales. For our and TLG's sake, I hope you're wrong.

It does look nice, I mean there is no image of the interior, if there will be any. I mean you have to admit the exterior is pretty nice and well detailed, I do hope we get some sort of good minifigs, I would guess Leia, some rebel soldiers, Artoo and Threepeo, perhaps Vader and a storm trooper, I hope that's not true, with so many generic figs. It wouldn't surprise me though, I would hope for the expected Leia, R2 and 3PO, a rebel commander( :classic: ), and some rebel soldiers.

I have to agree if this thing is $150+ I mean that's not right. That may be a deal breaker there, I already forked out a bit excessive $250 for the Dropship and AT-OT.

I don't see why everyone hates the RBR so much, it's all they can do for a low price range that can fit some minifigs. :sceptic:

Would anyone buy it if it had 6,000 pieces and could fit a few more minifigs and pay $650 USD? I know I wouldn't.

And also, I count 5 engines on top, and I bet there will be at least five on the bottom.

To me, the set looks great. I missed out on the red ship from TPM. :cry_sad:

Well, there is a precedent in that the original UCS version was figless  So we know Star Wars sets will continue to sell regardless.

If you want to add figs, the Rebel battlepacks are still available via S@H, and I don't know why any AFOLs would want yet another C3P0, R2D2 and Leia anyway.

TLG has made the figs such a virtue of the SW line - even this year putting them on *front* of the box art! - that if this pic has been sourced from 10197 I can't imagine why they wouldn't be included there.

Another one who needs their eyes checked. There's pretty clearly four. Svelte, I really hope your wrong about this being midi-scale, but sadly I think you might be right on the mark. :cry_sad:
