LEGO Star Wars 2009 Sets and Rumours

It's very hard to say whether TLG will offer us some OT BPs in next January or some CW BPs because of the popularity of CW (like ADHO15 already mentioned).

But like you already said, Millacol88, that's no reason why we should give up our hopes for OT BPs next January. TLG has to think about - and even does that - that there are a lot of SW fans which aren't interested in CW (like I) and some Endor BPs would be a perfect addition to this year's awesome Endor bunker set.

The only two things which are sure are

- that we surely won't get some Hoth BPs since we already get one big Hoth BP this summer and

- that TLG - if we get some Endor BPS - will surely not include the main characters seen in the brilliant Endor set this summer.

Otherwise it doesn't help - we'll have to wait until information about next year's sets will leak or/and until we'll see pics of these sets.

That all makes sense. I'm still holding out for cheap Endor troops that won't come attached to a 100-dollar-plus set.

I'm not quite so sure about that. There are a lot of OT fans here who would be disappointed if their era was overlooked for a BP. Me and Klaus-Dieter being among them, as well as all the old guys.

I love these ewoks. They're so much more accurate (and cute ) than the others.

Good analogy. However, I don't agree with it. I feel like these new Ewoks have more detail and a little more life in them. The old ones were too plain. The one-color thing didn't really work.

I agree with you SWMAN, the new Ewoks look really great. There is detailing on the hoods and face, what more could you want from them?

one question i haven't seen anyone else ask: why the heck does R2 have a gray dome ?!? I know in the movies it was silver but this just doesn't work for me. It's been white since 1999 - why change it now?

Because the old dome sucked (IMO anyway). Artoo's dome isn't white; it's silver, and bley is the best cost-effective replacement color. On the old one, they tried to cram all of Artoo's dome printing into the upper half of the dome which didn't look right at all. I like the new one a lot. In fact, it's one of the main reasons for me to consider buying the upcoming Y-Wing. But I agree that it would have been nicer if it were the Agents style silver instead of bley.

I have the new version from 10188 and I think it's far better than the original. The details are bigger and clearer and the colour difference makes it more obvious where his body ends and dome begins. A couple of the original R2s I pulled from boxes had very badly faded silver printing on them and looked terrible; I was so disappointed... but there's no chance of that happening again

After looking at pics of R2-D2 it is very clear where this join is. So this new colour I think is good. The only better alternative would be a brushed steel head .

I like this new head much more than the older version. Of course the grey disturbs a bit. But having the printing not that at the top (like in the older verisons) looks much better and much more realistic.

I totally agree with you both, Millacol88 and legoman!

The most Lego fans which are proud of all the CW sets (which are without doubts great Lego sets) are the main audience of all that CW movies - meaning mainly JFOLs but not mainly AFOLs.

So it wouldn't be wise of TLG to totally concentrate on all that CW stuff and forget all the OT "lovers" like us which surely will spend some money on new sets - or even re-designed sets with new indesgriedants and new minifigs - but which will surely not spend any money on all these CW sets. At least I surely will never buy some of these CW sets - unless I'd be a millinaire (but that surely will regrettably not happen )!

Btw: If TLG hopefully releases the long awaited Tantive 4 set this year, when do you think we can await evidence, information and/or pics? Around middle or end of June (like with last year's DS)?

i doubt that the Tantive IV is coming out this year. It is always possible, but TLG is releasing the Venator, plus the endor set, and also the AT-OT/dropship

I disagree. The rumors were for this year, and it wouldn't make sence to release it next year, THIS year is the 10th anniversary - not next. It makes sence - it's the first ship in SW!

Fans of the galaxy's fastest "hunk of junk" can look forward to an all-new Midi-scale edition of Han Solo's legendary Millennium Falcon from The LEGO Group this summer, and only Walmart's getting them!

The 356-piece set includes rotating guns both top and bottom, and rotating radar dish. Of course, savvy LEGO builders can add their own "special modifications" to the hull -- this is LEGO building after all!

Jens Kronvold Frederiksen, a LEGO Design Manager working out of Billund, Denmark, is the artist behind the new Midi-scale Falcon, and answered a few of our questions about the upcoming kit:

What are the challenges of designing in the "Midi-Scale"? Did paring back the detail make it easier or more difficult to come up with a compelling design for the Falcon?

In general Midi-scale is good for building bigger vehicles. But some of the smaller details can be a challenge.

Are you restricted to a certain number of newly-tooled parts for these kits?

We are always restricted on new tooled elements on all sets! But here, as there are no minifigures with the model, there was no need for new tooled elements.

The pared-back "Midi" aesthetic feels fun and lends itself well to desktop display for grown-ups. Are these just for kids, or do you have the adult fan in mind as well?

The model is for both kids AND older collectors. The model has a good size for display, but it is also constructed so that it will not fall apart when playing. You might lose a brick or two if you reach point-five past lightspeed, though...

I was more enthusiastic when there was only a blurry pic, it really does just look like a mini on steroids and I'm not a mini fan, so this will be coming off my wanted list. I'll stick to my much loved by me and much maligned by many others 7190 Falcon.
