I'm not entirely sure about the US, but on the highstreet in UK I'd expect to find it in stores such as Waterstones, Borders and WH Smith. These places tend to stock good selections of DK books. Amazon UK has it onsite but unavailable as yet.

I'm sure the free minifig will come with all books, no matter the region, but possibly only for the 1st print run. I hope people don't vandalise copies to steal the minifig - like I saw with the Jetix clone trooper giveaway. So sad...

That would be sad, but probably will happen if the fig isn't protected.

The dictionary seems fairly well laid out, but there were no pictures of sets Obi-Wan is in other than his starfighters.

Back in '05 at my local TRU I was depressed for a month after walking in and not a single Star Wars set had any of the light-up try me Jedi left in them. Everyone had ripped out and stole one. :cry_sad:

I do think that Lego has learned their lesson by now though, seeing as I doubt they made a profit from selling those, and from the looks of the cover of the book, the minifig is safe inside. :classic:

the sneek peek of the Visual Dictionary is now also on Starwars.com: here.
BIG NEWS! The german fan site "STAR WARS UNION" found a preview of the Visual Dictionary on the official STAR WARS site.

This book looks really good. I liked the other visual dictionary that DK puts out and this looks like another good one. I'm going to look out for it. Thanks for sharing the link. I probably wouldn't know about the book otherwise.

I like having Useless Info, I should have probally used the quote button though.

Fair enough... Though I don't see the book as useless information.

I think the book looks brilliant!

Lego sucked me into Star Wars, rather than the other way round, so I missed all of the early sets and really only started collecting everything from 2006. This is a great visual resource.

It looks to be fantastic source of information and so detailed, eg pointing out all the differences between figs which I probably would never have otherwise noticed such as the Padawan braid, different hoods etc. It will be great to see the design evolution of the line in one compendium and I'm glad that it looks as if they won't be shying away from their early clunky efforts.

Definitely a must-have and the exclusive fig is just icing on the cake!

I'm sorry, I feel so stupid now, I thought this topic was for new sets releases too. :hmpf:

It's alright. Just remember that all availability info should go in the 'Star Wars sets, anyone?' thread, not here. :classic:

DK books have superb photography and I'm sure it'll be an exciting trip through nostalgia flipping through the pages.

I hope so too - because I took a large part of the photos :) Very, very few of the 99 to 2004 sets had any stock images available from LEGO Co so I got the job of getting my old sets out, dusting them off and shooting them. It was awesome to get my hands on them but not so fun dusting half a decade of dust off them! I hope you'll be pleased with the results.

No it's right enough. It says under exile he meets Luke Skywalker and fights a duel against his former padawan, now named Darth Vader - referring back to Anakin.

Funnily enough the first draft of that sentance didn't include "now named Darth Vader" and I suggested it was changed so it didn't confuse people. I guess it is still a little ambiguous.

Simply amazing :cry_happy: . Really, I wasn´t expecting such good quality even if I know how DK Books commnoly are. I really like how they manage to put a comphresive description of all the sets and also great quality images.

The team who worked on this book are keeping an eye on various forums and really enjoy the positive feedback this book is getting from the community.

I wonder if this will be only in books stores, or will Kmart BigW target and the likes have it.

Anyone know if the mimi figure is exclusive to USA or for all.

It will be available wherever DK books are stocked, and the minifig will be available wherever the book is being sold. Just as long as you don't order the library edition.

That would be sad, but probably will happen if the fig isn't protected.

At the last planning meeting I went to the plan was to have a blister mounted in the corner to protect the minifig.

What about the boga from the General Grievous Chase set? It's right there! Anyway, each page is themed and this one is the Obi-Wan page. There are other pages with more cross-over set info on them.

It's not up tp LEGO Co to decide how a pack-in is packed in. That's the publisher's job. And LEGO Co don't get a cut from the magazine sales, again it is the publisher's who do. LEGO Co sells the minifigs to the publisher, so no matter how many get ripped off the cover LEGO Co is OK.

It seems like the Visual Dictionary book is just going to tell us what we already know :sceptic: .

It might be telling YOU what you already know but think of all the other people out there who aren't so well informed as you!

Thanks for the inside info LEGOscum. I think a blister back mounted on the front would be the best way to mount the fig. I'm not sure how to prevent thieves though, a little plastic package isn't really going to stop them.

The book is looking and sounding great LEGOscum! If you can answer, is the book system only or are the UCS sets and technic stuff in there too?

Oh crap! Looks like i might need two then, one to keep mint of course!

To bring up a new subject, we've all been hearing talk about an Endor battle pack, but that could only be proven with something to counteract it from the Imperial side. Maybe a Scout Trooper battle pack, with four Scout Troopers and one speeder bike!

That would simply be lovely. Endor rebels and some fake ship Lego created for the battle pack VS. Scout Troopers and a Speeder Bike!

Or does this belong as a 2010 rumor? Well, seeing as it would be part of the December 2009 collection, I think not!
