Tinn-man Posted January 7, 2009 Posted January 7, 2009 I like it, we finally get a palpy fig Plus, if it's so tall, won't there be a really good and detailed interior? There might be even more minifigures inside it, but it's not likely Quote
Draykov Posted January 7, 2009 Posted January 7, 2009 (edited) This really doesn't seem so drastically different than 6211 ISD to me (how quickly we forget the gaping hole in the bridge section). I'm not sure what all the complaints are about. These minifig inside/miniscale outside sets are a compromise, so obviously there are going to be some less than ideal design concessions. It does seem a bit smaller than the ISD, but maybe it'll be cheaper (or at least not more expensive). I guess time will tell. Edited January 7, 2009 by Draykov Quote
Darth Legolas Posted January 7, 2009 Posted January 7, 2009 I thought the Chancellor was going to have a cape, a skirt( Ventress), or something. Since he dosen't there must be some sor of table for him to sit at in the Venator. Minifigs can sit with capes, and again if it is real it's just prelim. By the way, does anyone notice that everyone who thinks the Venator is good is either an OT-only fan or a mainly-other-theme fan so they wouldn't have to get it anyway? Quote
KimT Posted January 7, 2009 Author Posted January 7, 2009 Well I like it and I am also getting it for sure. Quote
ROCON Posted January 7, 2009 Posted January 7, 2009 If you look at the Venator in smaller picture it does look accurate then when you look at it from close on Eurobricks. http://www.brickshelf.com/cgi-bin/gallery.cgi?f=339763 Quote
MaxGoof Posted January 7, 2009 Posted January 7, 2009 I don't think that Venator can be real. Lego wouldn't bother to make a Venator so vastly out-of-scale and underwhelming and try to sell it for $130+. The Imperial Star Destroyer is only $100 at Target--why would this set cost so much more for so much less? Makes no sense at all. Quote

It may have a ton of interior space, a bunch of accessories, figs we can't see, or more new figs to be addded into the final design. We might not know for a while, or very soon. Quote
Tinn-man Posted January 7, 2009 Posted January 7, 2009 Hey, do those clones have new guns? They look new. I hope that's a hologram that Palpy's holding, too, but it would look better in blue if it is one. Quote
TheTacoMan Posted January 7, 2009 Posted January 7, 2009 It looks real, at least, the palpatine and the guard mini-figs look real - they would be too hard to fake IMO Quote
General Armendariz Posted January 7, 2009 Posted January 7, 2009 Oh Wow I think that new venator thingy must be real it looks awesome! Quote
TheBrickHitHouse Posted January 7, 2009 Posted January 7, 2009 Looks real to me Doesnt look to bad - obviously I'd love a huge set (hey TLC - you had success with the Death Star why not try it again with the Venator?) Odd mini figs.... Quote
Matteo Kenobi Posted January 7, 2009 Posted January 7, 2009 (edited) Oh man, I sincerely hope this isn't real, it looks awful in my opinion. It is far to short and stubby, and if this comes out I don't think I'll buy it. None the less thanks for the picture Legomilk. I have to say the only think that could convince me to buy the set would be a crazy awesome interior, and judging by the looks of it, it's not going to happen. Hopefully we can get a confirmation or denial soon. Edited January 8, 2009 by Matteo Kenobi Quote
Holy Diver Posted January 7, 2009 Posted January 7, 2009 It's good, but I already have the Star Destroyer and one large starship is enough. Quote
Ashoka Posted January 7, 2009 Posted January 7, 2009 Well I like it! I think its very good, as it is a preliminary pic, and when its on a box with a flashy deseign, a perspective which makes it look really long and finished figs, I think most people will like it aswell. Preliminary pics are very dissapointing, but if you imagine how they will change it, it is most likely going to be very impressive I think the main feature will be the playability, possible holigrams inside, escape pods and holding cells. I think the senate guards look good in this pic, however I really cannot see palpatine I think the fig choice is strange, but TLG often do some strange stuff with sets fans consider to have pottential so seat all 12 members of the Jedi council and 50 clones (I am waiting for the day they do make that set ) I think the choice of figs is because in the voting thingy between home one and palps office, I think Home one won, so they knew this might be the only set they can get palpatine in. For example, they cant just stick palps in the pirate set, whereas it kinda makes sense for him to be in this set I think this is real, but I think it will be greatly improved as they may not still have all the figs in, althought they properbly do. I am really excited about seing some more pics though, but thanks to legomilk for the pic Ashoka Quote
Dadster Posted January 8, 2009 Posted January 8, 2009 Does anyone else think that Palpatine is holding a flour. orange popsicle? Quote
Motti Posted January 8, 2009 Posted January 8, 2009 (edited) I really think this set is great. Definitely will get this. Hopefully Home One will be even better. I have a small hunch that the bridge tower is going to contain nsomething, but I may be wrong. And it's not that small people: it has really impressive engines and there is this big rectangular blob sticking out of the back, that may be a prison or something. I hope this one doesn't have a hangar. We all know how lego likes to put in hangars because they don't cost at all! And you know what a hangar means: an escape pod! It had better not be as barren as the ISD interior. And as for playability features on the outside, I wouldn't want anymore because that would compromise the whole ship into unrcognisability at this stage And the lack of figs may be due to the fact that ther are lots of goodies inside to make up forit, like how the abundance of figs made up for the barren ISD. I'm also interested in the pre-ugly Palpy, wish I could see close-ups. I want to pit those blue guard clones (I'm directing this at you Darth Legolas, hahaha!) against magnaguards. I also think this is real. First, this is too crappy to be a moc( haha), second, this is the usual standard of Lego (haha again). Edited January 8, 2009 by Motti Quote
darkrebellion Posted January 8, 2009 Posted January 8, 2009 First thanks for the pic Legomilk . Well if this is real I really think this is a joke by part of the TLC . How can they do this to such a fantastic ship . It looks totally wrong in my opinion. Looks so fat and small . Also the minifig selection is . A CW Palpy, two simple Commandos and two random clones? How they can ruin a set with thatb possibilities and potential. And than the color scheme looks like crap . All of the bridge looks very unfinished with plates and plates throw to the sideas also the front part looks the same. And were are the engines? Now the TLC really ruined a set this time and worse a very awaited one . The Penguin can you confirm if this one is the same set you see in the trader catalog ? Quote
pedro Posted January 8, 2009 Posted January 8, 2009 Cheers for the link Legomilk! I reckon this is official too... and am also in the 'looks good to me' camp They've managed to include all the features that make a Venator what it is, ok it's a wee bit fatter than the movies but it still looks the part... and has the correct number of broadside turbolasers too! The figure selection is fairly unusual but Palpatine and Royal Guards [what are those staffs they're holding?] look like they'll be ace! Let's not make premature judgements on lack of playability etc. - as mentioned by Ashoka it could be full of neat features in the interior. We'll just have to wait for more pics to see... can't wait Quote
ditto Posted January 8, 2009 Posted January 8, 2009 venator definitely looks like a clone wars set to me. bright and colourful. choice of clones are a bit strange though. Quote
SWMAN Posted January 8, 2009 Posted January 8, 2009 The only thing that throws me off is the weapons that the Senate Guards are holding. They don't appear to be anything we have seen before. Quote
M'Kyuun Posted January 8, 2009 Posted January 8, 2009 Thanks for the pic, Legomilk. As mentioned, the perspective may be skewed. It looks a bit thick in the center; if so, it may have room for a mini-mini-fig scale V-19, which would round out the set much better than another escape pod. Quote
Snake...SNAKE...SNAAAAKE?! Posted January 8, 2009 Posted January 8, 2009 Frankly, it looks hideous. Very, very small, I doubt if you can fit all five figures in there. The color scheme is accurate, but I can't say that I like the design at all. Definitely not worth it, IMO.I think that this is the real deal, though. The figures look official enough, and Lego would probably know better than to give us an ISD with red stripes. Thanks legomilk for the pic, but I'll pass on this one (unless it's improved or fake). Exactly what I thought when I saw the pic... Aren't all (or at least most) Star Wars sets? The ISD might be downscaled, but no Star Wars set was in these kind of proportions. Overall, this set (fake, prelim, or otherwise) is definitely not worth 130 USD, in my opinion. I'll probably just modify my ISD to look like a (real) RSD. JimButcher, to point it out, I can currently think of a set that suffered similar criticism with similar whack proportions. the Motorized AT-AT. I personally like the borderline chubbs look of the set and, depending on an interior, will purchase it. Quote
Derek Posted January 8, 2009 Posted January 8, 2009 (edited) Have any of you even stopped to consider that the picture itself may be the one that is messed up? It almost looks as though it is stretched/squished. I myself thinks it looks nice, but we can all agree it definately needs more figs, maybe Plo Koon, Luminara, Kit Fisto, hell, I wouldn't mind Ahsoka. I was kind of hoping for a clone officer though... I stretched the Image out on MS paint. Doesn't look so bad now, eh? I know the minifigs look distorted, but its possible they were photoshopped into the already stretched picture... Edited January 10, 2009 by KimT attachment removed by requeswt Quote
Rayman Posted January 8, 2009 Posted January 8, 2009 I don't mind the stubbiness of the venator perhaps it's distorted to match the odd proportions of a minifig? Regardless, Senate Gaurds and a Chancellor Palpatine figure is more than enough cause for me to pick this set up. Quote
