Oky Posted July 24, 2009 Posted July 24, 2009 (edited) no landing gear.... damn it, I hoped so much for a Republic-Cruiser-like gear. and now I see it is supposed to land balancing on the canon?? I don't think it's balancing on the cannon because there is a slight gap between the cannon and its reflection. It's balancing on whatever this is. Edited July 24, 2009 by Oky Wan Kenobi Quote
Future74 Posted July 24, 2009 Posted July 24, 2009 Thanks for all the pictures! I'm really looking forward to this set, the price seems fair to me. No disappointment for me. I don't think it's balancing on the cannon because there is a slight gap between the cannon and its reflection. It's balancing on whatever this is. I think it's balancing on both. Looking at the design it seems it cant balance on just one point thats relative far at the back of the Tantive IV in comparison to the weight and length of the front part. Quote
Oky Posted July 24, 2009 Posted July 24, 2009 I think it's balancing on both. Looking at the design it seems it cant balance on just one point thats relative far at the back of the Tantive IV in comparison to the weight and length of the front part. Are you sure? The front part is rather hollow due to the interior whereas the back looks like a big, solid construction. It seems to me that it is somewhat back heavy. Besides, just look at the cannon! It doesn't touch the glass unlike the other piece. Quote
Zzz Posted July 24, 2009 Posted July 24, 2009 I hate it to be Mr-Smarty-Pants but I also think it is balancing on both, the reflection occurs from the underside of the glass, not from the upside. So there is a small gap, or, seems to be. You know what I mean. Anyway, it is a rather strange landing gear... I hope they also use that many cheese slopes in the finall version. ( I love that piece! ) And not the new 2x1x3/4 slope piece. Quote
DarthSion Posted July 24, 2009 Posted July 24, 2009 Well as no one else has posted it, i shall. A detailed "preview" of the Visual Dictionary is up at the official SW blog, from SDCC, and a full 3D video clip in which the book spins and you can see the back cover, and a full 3D spin of the Luke mini. Taken from the blog. On-hand to discuss it at Comic-Con International were Jonathan Rinzler, Executive Editor at LucasBooks; Rob Johnson, Art Director for the LEGO Group, and Simon Beecroft, author of the book and Publishing Manager for DK Publishing. Darth Legolas Posted July 24, 2009 Posted July 24, 2009 The Tantive's definitely resting on that round funny thing with the knobs. Oky Wan's right. The engines are big and heavy enough, but the rest of the ship is long enough to keep a perfect balance. Of course, anyone would have preferred real landing gear, but as long as it can sit on a table with out leaning to one side, it's good to me. I guess we can scrap the rumor of a double-headed Antilles, but I'm not sure why Lego would go through all the trouble of giving him a smiley face if not to change anything else? Quote
-JD- Posted July 24, 2009 Posted July 24, 2009 The RBR looks good in the picture, and I think the back is more heavy than the front which ruins the dream of it hanging from the ceiling of my LEGO room. It looks detailed and sturdy so I think LEGO have done alright with this set. The exclusive is a pure "Meh.". Not worth getting. I'll just use the instructions if I ever want to build it. Quote
Dannylonglegs Posted July 24, 2009 Posted July 24, 2009 (edited) The mini LAAT/C and the mini. The Republic GUnship mini isn't included, if that's what you're asking. Um, Actually I was wondering if those "Collectable Display Set"s were with the Mini DROPship and AT-TE. Those mini FIGURES is what I meant. Oops. Edited July 24, 2009 by dannylonglegs Quote

It shows how thick the book is! The Luke Skywalker included is a great bonus to me, since I don't have any Lukes so far, and this is an exclusive minifigure. Now, if only it came with a chrome silver lightsaber hilt... Quote
Commander_Rob Posted July 24, 2009 Posted July 24, 2009 (edited) After several pages of set discussion there is not much for me to say. Just this: Tantive IV: WANT WANT WANT but seriously, I like it. The interior could be better but there is an office and dining room on the upper deck of that ship. Apart from that I noticed that the US page of S@H says it is available from the 9th of September while the pages for European countries say 25th of August. Hmh. Comic Con Exclusives: I hate them. I absolutely hate them. Because I can`t get them. Anyway the Madine/Ackbar/Luke set seems to be the only one desirable and the Mini Dropship.... well, so what, I`m not into Minis, it doesn`t bother me much. EDIT: Oh and the book: we knew the minifig would be Yavin Ceremony Luke so..... Edited July 24, 2009 by Commander_Rob Quote
DarthSion Posted July 24, 2009 Posted July 24, 2009 Yes we knew, but not everyone else knew, and the point was to give members here a chance to see a 360 view of the book and mini figure, and to read about the book. Quote
RileyC Posted July 24, 2009 Posted July 24, 2009 (edited) In the SDCC hoth display set is darth vader's lightsabre hilt upside down? and ive noticed anakin's is also the same Edited July 24, 2009 by Roncanator Quote
ADHO15 Posted July 24, 2009 Posted July 24, 2009 In the SDCC hoth display set is darth vader's lightsabre hilt upside down?and ive noticed anakin's is also the same I've seen that a lot in displays. It's just down to the lazy people who set them up. They could make sure all the hilts were the right way round, the hands were all pointing the same way, all the capes were straight, etc. but they have so many to prepare, they can't be bothered spending time on each one to make them look better. Yes, but people are paying good money for something in a display case. They should be doing this perfectly if they expect someone to buy the set. Unless, is there someway to take the case off to fix them and use the minifigures, or do we just have to smash them? Quote
pedro Posted July 24, 2009 Posted July 24, 2009 I rather like the collectors cases - nice way to collect some cool minifigs without buying the sets. Personally, I'd pick up one or two, but not at the prices they've started appearing at on eBay (cheapest approx. £60 inc. shipping!). As such it's unlikely I'll ever have any in my collection; I'm happy to collect cool minifigs through buying the cool sets... and at a reasonable price Quote

Seeing things like that really annoy me (but I keep it to myself ). I am sure you can open them somehow.I agree. They probably have some plastic tabs, like the chrome Darth Vader display box thingy that was given out at the New York 2009 Toy Fair. Quote
Oky Posted July 25, 2009 Posted July 25, 2009 (edited) I am sure you can open them somehow. Yeah, if you look in the upper left corner of every box, you can see that they are simply folded-together plastic boxes. Besides, I actually like the hilts that way. That way, they have more variety, which is why I turn them around in my own displays sometimes. And if you look closely at Anakin's/Vader's hilt in the movies, it's very bottom heavy, so it actually works out that way. Edited July 25, 2009 by Oky Wan Kenobi Quote
-JD- Posted July 25, 2009 Posted July 25, 2009 (edited) And it makes sense, because Darth's and Anakin's are the other way round, and they are the same person. But things like that in adverts and posters annoys me too, along with the battle droid torsos being the wrong way round like on the AAT. But it doesn't matter that much... EDIT: Looking at those backgrounds, they would be very good in photography! Edited July 25, 2009 by Jammiedodger714 Quote

DarthSion Posted July 25, 2009 Posted July 25, 2009 Who ever said about a new lego set with master Kota from TFU i believe you, especially as they are re-releasing the game this year. Quote
Darth Legolas Posted July 25, 2009 Posted July 25, 2009 Who ever said about a new lego set with master Kota from TFU i believe you, especially as they are re-releasing the game this year. I don't recall anyone saying that, maybe in the set wish topic. It's the same old game with new DLC. I don't think Lego could base a set off of that. It's just not happening. Quote
The Nightwing Reborn Posted July 26, 2009 Posted July 26, 2009 Though the Tantive and Minis are big news, today while watching the G4 Star Wars panel I was reminded of the battle packs. Though I strongly hope these are Hoth sets, I noticed in the CW season two preview that there were more cold assault troopers. So I think that there is slight chance of these being from the Clone Wars. I know that I must be wrong on this, I'm just worried about there being a chance now. Quote
