KimT Posted February 17, 2009 Author Posted February 17, 2009 Let's refrain from discussing "What makes a UCS set" - there's already a topic for that. Quote
The Rancor Posted February 17, 2009 Posted February 17, 2009 (edited) Actually, it is not. A UCS set is an Ultimate Collector Series set, which is a highly detailed and large version of a well known vehicle or favorite space station. Examples are the Death Star, Death Star II, and Imperial Star Destroyer. The sets are not mini-figure scale and are not meant to be played with. The AT-OT and LAAT/LAAC, while large and expensive, is not a UCS because it is mini-fig scaled and meant to be played with. Sorry, just had to clarify that. All the same, the dropship and ATOT is still a 'special' becuase it has a 10...... number. I think the description of the dropship on S@H said that the missiles are 'autofire'. I wonder how that works? I can also see that it only takes 1 pilot to fly the dropship, + this is the first time we have a pilot for a land vehicle as well! I might just be able to muster some more battlepacks, because the seats in the back of the ATOT also have small emplacements. Edited February 17, 2009 by The Rancor Quote

Corvus Posted February 17, 2009 Posted February 17, 2009 Please people, check to make sure things haven't been posted before you post them. Y'know, telling people to check takes up just as much space as the people not checking, which leads to more posts to check, which leads to more people not checking. I'm really dissapointed with the Venator... I was hoping it'd have so much space in it...but the entire front is taken up by an office, the entire middle by a bomb launcher that drops two bombs, and the entire back with a cannon and an escape pod. It seems that they could have used that space to a much better purpose. Quote

Darth Skinyus Posted February 18, 2009 Posted February 18, 2009 I am new here, but as I have stated in the 'Hello New Member' place, I am a long time lurker. I want to say that these new sets are simply amazing. I knew about them before I joined, but the new LAAT/c and AT-OT is probably the most beautiful set I have ever seen. I am somewhat disappointed at the fact that the Palpatine's Arrest set didn't win. I do like the figs in the Mon Ca set though. Ever since I saw The Return of the Jedi and started collecting LEGO, I wanted an Ackbar. But now that I am not too much of an OT fan, I will just make a Nadahr Vebb with a Mon Cal and make a Bounty Hunter of the other. I also really like the Tank Droid. And the Fett packs are a good addition as well. Greetings from Darth Quote

Erm, IDK about you but i play with my UCS Death Star (The new one) all the time! The AT-OT + Drop ship is a WOUNDERFUL UCS - even though i am an OT fan through and through, i am actually excited at this CW UCS, as i am a huge vehicle fan and this one looks great. The piece count seems to be similar to the Sand crawler, and the price point is about the same correct? EDIT: Kimt, can you kindly point me in the direction of this topic about 'what makes a UCS'. I've looked around but i cant seem to find it Edited February 18, 2009 by TheTacoMan Quote
Natman8000 Posted February 18, 2009 Posted February 18, 2009 I never thought of making Nahdar with the ackbar head. Great Idea. Do you know that nadar means swim in spanish? Quote
Darth Skinyus Posted February 18, 2009 Posted February 18, 2009 Makes sense. Mon Cals are notorious for swimming. Quote
Natman8000 Posted February 18, 2009 Posted February 18, 2009 Makes sense. Mon Cals are notorious for swimming. Yes they are amphibious.... I dont think the snail tank is going to end up at 25 dollars rather at 20 because that would justify the means. Its five bucks too much. Quote
CommanderBly 128 Posted February 18, 2009 Posted February 18, 2009 I have to say, these new sets look amazing. Tank droid, looks great but is appears as if it is too short. The 2 side balancers look like they are set forward too much. Also i think it should be alot bigger, like Gareth's version from FBTB. If you look at the ones in the CWs series, they are like twice the size of AATs. Seperatists shuttle, Looks amazing, amazing figs too. This set is a steal for only $ 30 USD. Y-wing, Looks alot better than it did in the first pictures we got, and it appears pretty sturdy. Echo base, Looks good, price is good because you get 5 minifigs and a tauntaun. Endor, I think this is the best minifig scale OT set since the first falcan. Venator, Looks nice, but appears to fat, and should have more minifigs. Republic dropship and AT-OT, This is just amazing I almost fell out of my chair when I came home and saw this, but $50.00 overpriced. Quote
Oswald the Rabbit Posted February 18, 2009 Posted February 18, 2009 (edited) ?? Since when? I haven't seen any pics or discussion on it. That is because nothing has been officially released on that set. Some one cut off the info on the bottom of the pic saying that it was not for public viewing and if you bothered to read back a couple pages you will see it has been discussed and REMOVED Edited February 18, 2009 by Oswald the Rabbit Quote
Darth Legolas Posted February 18, 2009 Posted February 18, 2009 ?? Since when? I haven't seen any pics or discussion on it. Look closer then!!! Three posts of these to every page back! Back on topic... there are a lot of amazing views on the Shop[@home page of the AT-OT. I really want to be the first to get it, but I'll be waiting till the summer.... Quote
darklego86 Posted February 18, 2009 Posted February 18, 2009 Very cool set but isnt that a little pricey? Quote
Natman8000 Posted February 18, 2009 Posted February 18, 2009 Very cool set but isnt that a little pricey? Huh? What set? If you need to quote someone there is a little tag next to that post and just one little click. They all are pricy. Quote
Darth_Legois Posted February 18, 2009 Posted February 18, 2009 Wow cant believe I have replied to this thread yet! Anyway I like Home one, Especially the Dark Green Awing. Drop ship & AT-OT looks AWESOME! I'd say 3rd best SW LEGO Set ever made!! But $400 AUSD? I like the Corporate Alliance Droid Looks cute. i will definitely get at least one Hoth Set Sepratist Shuttle looks OK too but I dont think I'll have $$ for it Y-Wing looks like a piece of crap, CW version sucks. I'll have to get an OT Y-Wing instead.... Venator looks errrm okay I guess....But I'll pass. Endor Bunker looks great! Return of the Scout Trooper! Love the AT-ST and the whole bunker...But if I get it I'll have 5 Chewies...What the hell are you supposed to do with FIVE CHEWIES!!?! Quote
Da Death Star! Posted February 18, 2009 Posted February 18, 2009 (edited) Has anyone noticed that in the Echo base set,the Tauntaun has six eyes andthe Hoth Rebels have new goggles?(And possibly white Endor Rebel Helmets?) And there obviously is not a Clone in sight in the Separatist Shuttle,Just Gunray,3 B1s,a Pilot Droid and Farr.Too bad,its always good to have an extra Clone . I haven't yet provided my views on the new sets,so I'll do that now: Endor Battle:This is a must-have.It has 2 new Body prints(One for Leia and one for the troops),A new Hair piece for Leia(WIIIIIIIIN!),and a cheaper way to get a DS Trooper.I'm glad they re-introduced the Biker Scouts,I never got any the first time around.(I wonder if they'll have that old head-print with the goggles,BUT IN FLESH )I'm dissapointed that they didn't give Han a trench coat(Or at least given him a jacket like in the game). The AT-ST looks SWEET,its amazingly accurate. The Catapult looks pretty good. The Outside of the bunker is awesome,The blow-off panels were an unnecessary feature, but the features awesome anyway. But the Interior is totally weak. What are the tank things for? Definite Y-wing:Eh,its too yellow and its kinda bland and boring, the figures are over-used(But another new printed R2 never hurt anybody).I prefer the OT version. The lightsaber storage is a nice touch though. Maybe Snail tank:Great set,the jetpacks are total WIN.People who want to make Boba/Jango without there helmets will probably want multiples.(Now all we need are the Mandalorian Helmets seperate of the Jetpacks )The actual tank looks great too,and a couple more droids for the Seperatist ground troops as well . Definite Seperatist Shuttle:A good little ship.Theres opening doors, another Rodian fig(FINALLY!)and a Nute Gunray(AFTER ALL THESE YEARS!),the ever-rare Pilot Droid is awesome.and more droids to get scrapped by the Clones are always good . Definite Venator:Pretty good, the bombing function looks smooth, the gun turret looks great.Cockpit sucks though.Palpatines office is greatly detailed, and his desk made out of arches is brilliant.Palpatines face will probably give the littler kids nightmares(No,seriously,hs face is scary). And the DS plans are an. . . . .Interesting touch.the escape pod is okay, but what about all the awesome clones that have to stay on the ship and crash into some planet and die ?Palpatines was a tyrant even befour ep IV .(And yes, that Typo was intentional ) If I have enough money I'll get it. Hoth set:The turret is much more compact then the one in the Hoth base. The trench is too tall. The Rebel flinging function is. . . . . .Okay.Luckily the Rebels have new goggles,so that makes up for it.The Tauntaun looks good. The Snowtroopers and there third E-web are great. Definite AT-OT & LAAT/c:Superb.I'm speechless.I'm glad that Lego finally made a set with more than 3 regular Clones.$350 bucks CAD?Sorry TLC I think I'll wait for it to go on sale before I THINK of getting it. If it goes on sale and I have enough money I'll get it. (_)The guy who thinks the Tauntaun has four too many eyes(_) Edited February 18, 2009 by Da Death Star! Quote

ROCON Posted February 18, 2009 Posted February 18, 2009 (edited) I don't get it how is the At-St walker supposed to walk on the floor. Can someone explain it? Oh, also the way the dropship picks up the At-Ot is marvelous. It's dosen't even take two seconds to attach the two together and then go off into the sky. I'm a bit disappointed by the size of the venator. Hopefully Palpy's saber is changed from silver to gold and he comes with a hood. My opinion on the SMALL/"affordable" sets: Tank Droid I am totally gonna get two/three of these for the jet troopers and I need some droids. Wouldn't it be great if Lego gave them a different color. Blue, Green, Red perhaps. I bet they're gonna make a new boba with this jet pack! Hoth This set looks okay, probably gonna end up under my bed like my Booster Ring and MagnaGaurd Fighter ( P.S. Got em' for the figures Who didn't ) Well The Taun-taun could be a nice addition to my Clone Wars and a few Snow Troopers wouldn't hurt Either. Pirate Tank Haven't seen much of it but looks okay. Could use these guys on my Sail Barge. Separatists Shuttle Great set but once again just getting it for the figs and more droids. I bought too many clone battlepacks. My opinion on the LARGE/"expensive" sets: The Y-wing Just gonna get for the chrome Artoo and because my little brother won't stop bothering him to buy him the set. Endor This set is a beauty and could be a great addition to my Clone Wars. I love everything included in this set, hopefully its under 120 because almost half of the 3rd wave are over 100. I'm gonna be broke! Mon Calamari Not to interesting, just getting again for my little bro(man, shouldv'e never shown him those pics! ).I'm sure Ackbar's gonna come in a magnet set. Venator Looked great and still does but I hate how it's just gonna end up as display. I mean there's nothing to do with it. Last but not least..... DRUMROll! The Great, The Magnificent, The Expensive Republic Dropship w/ At-Ot This set is a must have to any Clone wars fan. I mean I shouldn't be making a big deal about this set cause it's just 2008 combined together, but still a must have, after it comes on sale like all other sets. Natman8000 Posted February 18, 2009 Posted February 18, 2009 Um,what are you talking about? If those little dots on the sides of the head are Little horns, then where the hell are the eyes? maybe taun tauns get acne also. For goodness sake its just detail. Quote
Clone OPatra Posted February 18, 2009 Posted February 18, 2009 The Tauntauns in the movie look like this: Their eyes are where that big blank spot is on the LEGO mold, and those bumps on the forehead are straight from the movie, as you can see from the picture. I hope LEGO adds some printed eyes to the tauntaun before selling the set! Quote
