Ruin Posted February 18, 2009 Posted February 18, 2009 Here's my insight on the sets of 2009 - Tank Droid - This is a big improvement over the other snail droid which was blue and was fragile to play with, but features were nice and the build was interesting. The 2009 Snail Droid (Tank Droid) is a huge improvement, looking more like the movie counterpart, being all gray, and having an improved build to look a little more menacing. Minifigures are a plus here, two jet troopers is awesome. Overall I think this is an improvement and I will buy this If I have enough money after the AT-OT. Hoth Buying it no matter what. The minifigures are valuable and rare, and awesome collectors items, and the scenery and turret is pretty much the best for reincarnation of hoth battle scenes. Will look nice with my AT-AT Pirate Tank Looks great, figures are awesome, the only problem is it maybe out of my budget. I like the build and look though. Separatists Shuttle Small, like every droid ship or vehicle, minus the ATT. This is nice, the feature and build is sub-par while the figurines are a nice bonus. It's worth getting if you can afford, or as I should say, I can afford. The Y-wing Big time collectors might need this, and little kids who are fans might want it but will be cautious about putting out the money for it. Besides, the figures in this set are ridiculous. I rather not have two Anakins and Ahsoka minifigs. They should have put in a clone pilot and called it a day. Instead it is no minifigs im getting. I'd say lower the price to 50 or add a clone or two. Endor A must buy for any star wars fan. The AT-ST is a huge improvement, over the blocky one release a year or two ago. I love the bunker, and the minifigures are awesome. This better not get sold out too quickly. Mon Calamari Alright, it's a good idea, but for 110 USD, I wouldn't consider. Venator This is really nice, maybe the coolest set besides the new Dropship w/ AT-OT. You have to love the features, (turret, bomb drop, handle, Palpatine's office) and the figures - Palpatine, 2 Senate Commandos, 1 Clone Pilot, 1 Clone Gunner. The ship looks really nice on display too, however price is conflicting with other sets. An expensive year. Republic Dropship w/ At-Ot This is one of those sets you can't believe Lego would think of doing. I can't explain why, I just know the feeling. The AT-OT first off was a very interesting vehicle seen in EP-III during the battle of Felucia and ever since lego builders just wanted to make one for their collection. The same goes for the Dropship, because the idea of carrying huge vehicles is pretty much epic, we all have to agree, the a LEGO set would be hard to come by. LEGO proved me wrong and combined two high demand products into one to really set our wallets on fire but bring us quality sets. Best set on the market i think. Quote
TheDarkness Posted February 18, 2009 Posted February 18, 2009 The Dropship on the Aussie S@H says Coming Soon on Feb 20, whereas the pic has March 30 on it. Surely it must be an error, and not us getting it a month early Quote
TheTacoMan Posted February 18, 2009 Posted February 18, 2009 (edited) Drop ship & AT-OT looks AWESOME! I'd say 3rd best SW LEGO Set ever made!! But $400 AUSD? Just wait until about a month after it's release and look on ebay - i promise you you will find a set for about $300-350 AUS, and you won't have to pay lego.com's LUDICROUS shipping charges. However, considering that the republic dropship was $179, and the AT-TE was $149, having the combined set for $400 seems horribly uneconomic, if anything, I'd expect it to be cheaper than the two sets! BUT!!! Since it is a clone wars UCS, and because mostly children buy the clone wars sets, they won't be able to afford this set and the price may drop drastically, like the general grievous UCS. If you want proof, go into any store that sells LEGO and you will ALWAYS be able to find republic drop ships and AT-TE's - because the kiddies can't ask their mommies for enough money for them. Bottom line is: If you are paitent, it will pay off Better go back on topic before Kimt comes at me with angry off topic posts (although i do believe small discussion on prices is warranted in this topic) I hate how they throw arbitrary clones in almost EVERY separatist pack, but there are hardly ever arbitrary droids in the republic packs! I have too many clones! I want more droids, and the assassin droids are shithouse. I might have to buy 2 separatist shuttles just to get a droid army going, i was going to buy a couple tank droids, but i would much rather if they put in a couple super battle droids instead of more clones and some stupid 'play feature' which is basically a lego see saw. ROCON Posted February 18, 2009 Posted February 18, 2009 Pros and Cons about the Dropship and At-Ot.Pros: Its a great set, several features, lots o' clones, 2 pilots, awesome color scheme, and it's compatible with the At-Te. Now the cons, if you play, then won't the dropship be pretty useless after it .. drops off? I'm gonna wait on this thing for the price to drop, hey if I waited for Fisto for two years just for it to go down to thirty then why not this. :) Quote
Corvus Posted February 18, 2009 Posted February 18, 2009 Also, it seems to me that after you've had fun attaching/dropping of the AT-OT, what else is there? I mean, sure, there are SIX(!) clones and TWO(!) pilots, but what else? You can get clones and pilots anywhere else. For this price, we need a little more. A new Jedi would be nice, or a new clone commander, like Bly, to give you that little push to get the set- I got the AT-TE partly for Rex. Plus, for that price, we need an enemy of some sort! They have nothing to fight, and my clone army is swiftly growing, while my droid army ain't. EDIT: oh, and go to the "UCS Discussion" thread to fight about the UCS issue. Quote

I never see any Death Stars (expensive for "kiddies") in the LEGO Store near me...just a FEW UCS Millenium Falcons (even more expensive for "kiddies")... Edited February 18, 2009 by ILikePi Quote

My sentiments exactly, it would be nice if we got even one or two of those droid battle pod things that were in the AT-TE. TLC: TOO MANY CLONES! NOT ENOUGH DROIDS! I would REALLY like to see TLC republish the MTT as they have recently done with the x-wing. A single one of those would perfectly fill out my droid army Quote
ROCON Posted February 18, 2009 Posted February 18, 2009 (edited) I think Iego is hiding a few more sets for us. Those of you who knew Lego was hiding something , you were correct and we got the dropship. Anyways there's a feeling that you want more 09 sets but then again think of that hole Lego's already burnt in your wallet. :/ I have a feeling that were still missing more winter sets. Yes, oh wait NO ($.$) "They'll be back, and in greater numbers," Obi- Wan Kenobi. ;) Edited February 18, 2009 by ROCON Quote
Algernon Posted February 18, 2009 Posted February 18, 2009 MAN!!!!!!!!!! THAT SUCKS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I agree with this... most of the SW sets that have appealed to me have been UCS. Quote
KimT Posted February 18, 2009 Author Posted February 18, 2009 Better go back on topic before Kimt comes at me with angry off topic posts (although i do believe small discussion on prices is warranted in this topic) A little price discussion is fine, just as long as it isn't soley devoted to bitching about the overpricing or an urge to rant on LEGO prices. I do see the point in the price being off, when the RGS & ATTE combined still is cheaper than this set. @UCS Discussion - the topic can be found in the Star Wars Forum Index which is a pinned topic, just like this one. CommanderCody77 Posted February 18, 2009 Posted February 18, 2009 (edited) ?? Since when? I haven't seen any pics or discussion on it. It was in a page in this topic I think its 130 something Anyways I think I might not get the Pirate tank or MF because of that AT-OT Edited February 18, 2009 by CommanderCody77 Quote

ElisHelrot Posted February 18, 2009 Posted February 18, 2009 I love the Mon Calamari set, but it's too expensive for me I like the set with Nute Gunray, too, maybe I'll buy this set Quote
starwarsdk Posted February 18, 2009 Posted February 18, 2009 Hi I must say that 2009 seems to be a great year for the SW collectors... i like all the sets, and i have to buy them so i can keep my collection up to date I would like TLC to do the landing platform from ROTJ or even better, vaders arrival to the death star from ANH. Some more bounty hunters would also be gladly welcomed. The real and only thing that could turn the heat up on the SW series would be the creation of an Ewok city from ROTJ... that´s just if you ask me... then again, more battle packs..... But again it looks like a great year for us SW collectors.... to celebrate the 10th anniversary, they could perhaps do a moc up contest and then give away a real life sw figure of legos, as seen in the stores.... CommanderCody77 Posted February 18, 2009 Posted February 18, 2009 How does the Republic Dropship stand up with out falling down? "cause they don't have a base at the bottom except for the front Quote
Cloned Gunner Posted February 18, 2009 Posted February 18, 2009 ^ Well I think those two things that are the "suction cups" that will be attached to the AT OT will be the landing gear for the Dropship and provides support for it to stand up when not attached to the AT OT. You can see this on the first page of this topic and it's the first picture too ! Well overall, I think the sets for 2009 are great and I plan on getting one of each except the Y-Wing and Venator (Ugly Palps figure) and if the AT OT doesn't ship here, I won't get that one too. (Hope it does ship though, then I'll have two Gunships) Also, does anyone think it is weird that TLC would release so many good sets at one go ? Could it be that since the license for SW is expiring, they are going all out ? And, wow, discussion of these new sets are bringing in news members and lurkers. Sorry if any of this isn't related to the topic, rules here are quite strict >_<... Quote

RoflWafls Posted February 18, 2009 Posted February 18, 2009 I'm probaly only going to buy Endor (cause it's SO COOL! I already have 3 Biker scouts, but now I'll have 5 ) and I'll buy Ackbar's ship (for the resale value ) Quote
The Penguin Posted February 18, 2009 Posted February 18, 2009 (edited) In defense of Snail Droid. ) Some of you, gentlemen, say it's out of scale.... Let's make some calculations. ) A BD is 1.91 meters tall. Tank Droid is 6.2 merers tall, which is approximately 3 BDs if they stood one on another.... Now let's look at the pictire: Yep, a bit small, but definitely not out out of scale. ) Good day, gentlemen! ) P.S. Someone said here, that it should be twice as big as AAT. ) That's quite incorrect, because if I remember correctly AAT is somewhat 9 meters tall. ) Edited February 18, 2009 by The Penguin Quote

Commander Flash Posted February 18, 2009 Posted February 18, 2009 $10 for snail droid?! Maybe back in 2001, but it is a good deal. a nice real vehicle, 2 droids, 2 clones, and 2 new jetpack molds. Quote

baby Posted February 18, 2009 Posted February 18, 2009 Snail Tank is not bad to me. Maybe the thread make the pieces a lot, but I think it is fairly price. Quote
