Eskallon Posted February 13, 2009 Posted February 13, 2009 I kinda agree with you on this matter. Nowadays I find myself always lookin at the figs, do you guys ( Im mad and need some help i think), Anyway some sets are totally rubbish in my opinion. The home one cruiser totally sucks. I mean a little hanger and a balcony, is not that much. I expected more even though I voted for the palpatines aresst Quote
TheBrickHitHouse Posted February 13, 2009 Author Posted February 13, 2009 What do people think about this ''smaller sets - more mini figs'' theory? Worrying? Lego cutting costs? For me it is worrying. I like the big sets - they are invariably packed with features and beautifully designed I see the mini fig as the counter-part to a great set - not a substitute for a great set, or the reason to buy A small set doesnt display as well, doesnt have that ''significance'' that an AT-AT does for example I'd hate to think we have missed out on a Mon Calamari Star Cruiser or a stunning Venator because of the credit crunch Quote
Algernon Posted February 13, 2009 Posted February 13, 2009 The Clone Wars minifigs are hella weak, I don't care how many of them there are. The 2009 sets haven't been very impressive thus far, but the 08 wave wasn't much better. Frankly I think Star Wars is running out of juice, and I haven't seen a set in a long time that's looked like more than a bundle of flick-fire missiles and old designs. The summer wave is better because it has some OT sets, but for the most part, I'm still not impressed... Quote

And maybe, because from what i have seen on here, most people buy a set based on the mini's, so if they put more in maybe someone will buy it. The venator is still coming, and is a full ship, i have seen pictures, as for the play set mon its rather kiddy, a full ship is possible, i mean off the top of my head i know they have done 2 AT-AT and 2 AT-ST and 2 AT-TE, they might release a bigger set later, just smaller ones now as most people are not wanting or able to spend due to the rescission. MicroM Posted February 14, 2009 Posted February 14, 2009 When I first read this post, I thought No, I like the kits as well. But then I've had a good think about it and you do make a good point, though I'm still undecided as whether it's the kits or the figs I'm interested in for 09. I compared to the 2008 line up - the Gunship and AT-TE are 2 kits I would have got without the figs for sure. The V-19 only came with one fig, so you had to like that kit to get it. I was sucked in on the Magna guard ship (initially I didn't like it, but it grew on me and I got it, only to regret it after building it). The Death Star, although full of great figs also is a great stand alone kit. So all in all the 08 kits didn't need the figs to make them attractive. As for the 09 kits; - Endor - the figs are great, I do like the AT-ST and would buy this as a kit. - Home One - I'm not totally sold on this kit, need to see some more detailed shots. The figs however are great and I know I'll buy it, but really only for the figs - Clone Wars kits - the Shuttle does actually appeal to me as does the Alliance Droid. I'm wont be getting the YWing for the figs given I have them, so that's a kit I'll be getting for the figs - The Hoth kit, I'll only be getting that for the figs - I actually think that Turrent could be done a lot better by LEGO - Even the recently released CW kits - Dooku's sailor was only good given his fig, but the magnet set has solved that problem. The AAT and RAS are good stand alone kits that were improved by decent figs. I do wonder if its just that we are getting such a good quality assortment of figs this year that is making it seem like they are the reason for the kits. Anyway I suppose it's all a mute point for me, I'll be getting all the kits announced so far anyway. Quote
RileyC Posted February 21, 2009 Posted February 21, 2009 Yea i agree to. Ill still get them because they have all new minifigs and most of them have quite a few of them too Quote
Razzer Posted February 21, 2009 Posted February 21, 2009 (edited) Really, I like this years sets more than any year before and I especially like the way Lego has included neat play features into every new set that isn't just 'flick fire missiles'. Has anyone seen the play feature videos because I think these are possibly the best designed Lego sets ever released, especially since there are lots of entirely new much needed sets and and ships. Yes, I'll agree that Lego are packing more figs into the sets and focusing on the minifigures a little more I think this is a good thing as fans have wanted these characters for a long time. RoflWafls Posted February 21, 2009 Posted February 21, 2009 What's wrong with Endor and Home One? I'd buy them if they didn't have the figs. Quote
