jifel Posted February 13, 2009 Posted February 13, 2009 link Look! Defend the forests of LEGO® Castle! Become a swashbuckling archer from the days of knights and legends with this LEGO® Castle bow! Includes 3 soft, child-safe foam “arrows.” This is a huge hint at possible elves. If this is the wrong place, has been posted, or should be in a different thread, I apologise. jifel
Derek Posted February 13, 2009 Posted February 13, 2009 I guess I see what you mean, but the Crown soldiers have archers too. But maybe the green is a hint...
Scouty Posted February 13, 2009 Posted February 13, 2009 For some reason I thought it said "ELVIS" not "ELVES" . I don't know why LEGO is producing such things, they aren't great. Though, I hope it does lead to an Elven theme
Huntleyfx Posted February 13, 2009 Posted February 13, 2009 Hmmm... If elves are in the future, I am sensing even more Lord of the Rings MOCs coming along. An excellent find!
jifel Posted February 13, 2009 Author Posted February 13, 2009 I guess I see what you mean, but the Crown soldiers have archers too. But maybe the green is a hint... And, the description says To defend the forest and there have been no mention of crownies and forests. jifel
Huntleyfx Posted February 13, 2009 Posted February 13, 2009 And, the description says To defend the forest and there have been no mention of crownies and forests.jifel I just thought of something, which might be just as amazing as elves; what if they are bringing back Forestmen?
jifel Posted February 13, 2009 Author Posted February 13, 2009 I hope, but they have hinted towards elves previously in maps in a lego club, I doubt they would do both, and the elf had a shield with bow and arrow emblem, which indicates they are related. jifel
hewkii9 Posted February 13, 2009 Posted February 13, 2009 What is this speculation based on? A doodle from a year ago, a toy that qualifies as Lego in the barest sense of the word, and an official stating there won't be Elves in 2009? Let's be realistic.
jifel Posted February 13, 2009 Author Posted February 13, 2009 I dont see why any existing factions will "defend the forest" and 2009 is not the end of the theme. Early 2010, I say. But you do have a point. jifel
WesternOutlaw Posted February 13, 2009 Posted February 13, 2009 I love these little hint-type threads. A green bow is certainly interesting, and definately does not fit in well with the current Castle theme. Perhaps this is a hint for a new Castle faction.

And I don't think anybody believes there WILL be Elves in 2009; we'd have heard of them by now. But keep in mind that LEGO designs themes years in advance- this could be a hint that the designers are hard at work getting an Elves theme approved by Marketing. This is a good sign for people still holding out for an Elves theme (which by the way I think is far more likely than Forestmen), and it deserves to be noted. Edited February 13, 2009 by Algernon

Yes, a new medieval theme or faction which revolved in Forestmen? I love these subtle hints. Jifel, thanks for highlighting to us. If memories served me right, I remembered a slight fragment of Pirate cutlass appearing one year before the formal release of Pirates 09. Perhaps, a pirate guru could enlighten me on this point.
Moose Posted February 13, 2009 Posted February 13, 2009 (edited) while elves would be cool, what about the dwarves? lego seemed to just throw them aside. they were the coolest castle guys yet. are we getting more of them? Edited February 13, 2009 by Moose

Were you thinking of this thread by any chance . Thanks for finding this, and pointing it out to us Jifel. Though I'm not getting my hopes up just yet, I am cautiously optimistic.

Yessiree. We saw a toy cutlass, an ice cube tray (Hinck's favorite ) and Sir Nadroj saw some piratey minifigs in an Arizona LEGO store, which turned out to be the real deal. So, this has promise!

I Scream Clone Posted February 13, 2009 Posted February 13, 2009 Those Lego people are so shifty dropping little hints every now and then. Time will tell, though I feel a new faction could only stand to invigorate the Castle line.
Admiral Blockbeard Posted February 13, 2009 Posted February 13, 2009 OMG I just realized something... In a different thread THIS one i told a story of how I received an Email back... well here is the email - (keep in mind he knew I ordered the MMV - a castle set) "Dear XXXXXXX XXXXXXX, Thanks for getting in touch with us. You are right. There must have been an elf mixing up the pictures and the texts next to them. Thank you for letting us know. It looks that you are a real LEGO fan when going through all the different subcategories of our webpage. We appreciate a lot. I certainly pass on this information to the person in charge to correct it. Please get in touch if you need anything else. We are happy to help. Yours sincerely, XXXXX XXXXXXXXX LEGO Direct"(names removed for obvious reasons!) It did not click until I just read ISC said shifty clues . I had thought it strange he chose this wording... why not have a different word? An elf... I am personally sold on the elf idea or is this a cultural thing I have missed? Elves ON
eti Posted February 13, 2009 Posted February 13, 2009 (edited) Personally, there is no way I would associate a crossbow with elves. But I'm not a Tolkien fan and I don't know what exact mythical creatures 'elves' are - it can be pretty much anything as long it's got pointed ears, right? It's very much culture and language defined - the Dutch word 'elf' is normally used for a little fairy like Tinkerbell (or Millimy, in Lego terms). Something a bit etherical, anyway. So if Lego is going to come up with 'elves' and that's all way know, they could basically look like anything (and minifigs don't even have ears to make pointy!) PS the bow is not avialable in my country so I won't order it... Edited February 13, 2009 by eti
Ricecracker Posted February 13, 2009 Posted February 13, 2009 So if Lego is going to come up with 'elves' and that's all way know, they could basically look like anything (and minifigs don't even have ears to make pointy!) Good point there, although I think that TLC would probably make a new head mold, like the Squidward one in the Sponebob sets.
eti Posted February 13, 2009 Posted February 13, 2009 Or a rubbery head - technically, Lego has already released an elf (well, Dobby the house elf), and that one had a rubbery head.
metalandi Posted February 13, 2009 Posted February 13, 2009 Sorry, but as far as i know we already have confirmation that there'll be no elves this year.
Ricecracker Posted February 13, 2009 Posted February 13, 2009 Or a rubbery head - technically, Lego has already released an elf (well, Dobby the house elf), and that one had a rubbery head. That's who I was thinking of, but I forgot his name. So in the end I decided to use Squidward as an example Sorry, but as far as i know we already have confirmation that there'll be no elves this year. It's already been mentioned, and we're now speculating for 2010.
SlyOwl Posted February 13, 2009 Posted February 13, 2009 I'm thinking Forestmen, not Elves. There's an even heavier emphasis on forest, and the green fits too. Furthermore, check out this thread. There's definitely a Forestman in those preliminary pictures, meaning that TLC had them in consideration. I'm thinking that instead of Elves, TLC will go down the Forestmen route, as they can have a bit more freedom with them, design-wise, and they're probably more universally appealing than Elves, which - as far as I know - not many children know much about. Or, they may co-exist. And just for reference, the original "hint" -
