natelite Posted February 13, 2009 Posted February 13, 2009 I'm thinking Forestmen, not Elves. There's an even heavier emphasis on forest, and the green fits too. And just for reference, the original "hint" - yup, i agree with your analysis. also, the "original" elf came with the IJ man pouch. if they had wanted to release elves it would have been with the IJ theme in 08/09. i think the problem lies with creating a distinctive feature to represent the elves. see the "original" depiction of elves. high cheek bones and slanty eyes. tlg will certainly get sued by certain asian groups - recall the miley cyrus incident. dwarves on the other hand are not culturally sensitive and easier to distinguish between humans given their size. forestmen would be most likely in 2010 instead of elves.
Fluyt Posted February 13, 2009 Posted February 13, 2009 I don't think the crossbow is a "BIG" hint, not even a tiny hint. But I do believe TLG will release elves (or forestmen), or at least something like that, mainly because of the "elflands" pic.
hewkii9 Posted February 13, 2009 Posted February 13, 2009 Those Lego people are so shifty dropping little hints every now and then. Time will tell, though I feel a new faction could only stand to invigorate the Castle line. Well if we might be getting a new hero faction, I'd love something Saracens.
Dadster Posted February 13, 2009 Posted February 13, 2009 I wouldn't call it a big hint. I'm really looking forward to the Elves (when they arrive), but I was half expecting an insignia. Nice find for those interested...
Millacol88 Posted February 14, 2009 Posted February 14, 2009 Nice find. I think the "Elflands" teaser is a more concrete hint than the crossbow. Elves/Forestman/New faction in 2010 for the win!
The Who Posted February 14, 2009 Posted February 14, 2009 Nice find. I think the "Elflands" teaser is a more concrete hint than the crossbow. Elves/Forestman/New faction in 2010 for the win! The teaser shows the person/fig holding a bow and arrow, which is basically a vertical crossbow.
Sandy Posted February 14, 2009 Posted February 14, 2009 The teaser shows the person/fig holding a bow and arrow, which is basically a vertical crossbow. Excuse me? A longbow is a totally different weapon to a crossbow. They operate in a totally different way. It's the same as calling a pistol a "short rifle" or a long sword a "doublehanded knife". As for the topic, I wouldn't count this toy as a big hint for a new faction, really...
eti Posted February 14, 2009 Posted February 14, 2009 Oh, when I said 'crossbow' i just said the first English word I could think of that means 'bow that goes with arrows'... No idea about different kinds of bows at all.
Duke of Derby-shire Posted February 14, 2009 Posted February 14, 2009 I say Lego should stick to creating actual Lego sets and not produce these crappy toys. But, I think elves will be next year. They're focusing on the trolls/orcs right now, it looks like. It was the skellies/knights, now the trolls/orcs/dwarves faction, so maybe next year it'll be elves/(new enemy).
KimT Posted February 15, 2009 Posted February 15, 2009 As for the topic, I wouldn't count this toy as a big hint for a new faction, really... Really? A toy-bow firing foam arrows has got little to doo with elves?! - are you serious? C'mon guys take it easy. We'll either see elves or not. TLG haven't decided wether or not they're going to be a future part of the Castle theme, so let's all just lean back and wait.
Capt. Kirk Posted February 15, 2009 Posted February 15, 2009 (edited) And just for reference, the original "hint" - Elves or Woodmen... TLC is the only one how knows it. But if you look at the picture from SlyOwl and the text in the picture - mystery and magic... and then compares it with "see the "original" depiction of elves. High cheek bones and slanty eyes". I see some "hints" for Elves on the face of the mini figure in the picture. But if Elves will be released by TLC I hope they don't make the head look like this: or Edited February 15, 2009 by Capt. Kirk
eti Posted February 16, 2009 Posted February 16, 2009 No, the heads should look like this: except the ears would need to point up!
Zepher Posted February 16, 2009 Posted February 16, 2009 I find it funny that in this thread everyone's saying it's impossible, but the same thing happened in the cutlass thread. Looks legit to me!
hewkii9 Posted February 16, 2009 Posted February 16, 2009 I find it funny that in this thread everyone's saying it's impossible, but the same thing happened in the cutlass thread. Looks legit to me! Yeah, because there's no way TLC would ever reuse a mold where relevant. I believed the cutlass thread, but I don't believe this.
Ricecracker Posted February 16, 2009 Posted February 16, 2009 Yeah, because there's no way TLC would ever reuse a mold where relevant. I believed the cutlass thread, but I don't believe this. Why not? I Believe its true....
Nikola Bathory Posted February 17, 2009 Posted February 17, 2009 Having too many different factions at the same time = bad idea! On the other hand, Elves would be great, I hope that LEGO will create such a subtheme.
Lordofdragonss Posted February 17, 2009 Posted February 17, 2009 I think Lego will make Elves vs Dwarfs Sets. That's why we haven't dwarfs in new sets right now.
MarcusV3 Posted February 18, 2009 Posted February 18, 2009 I've been hopin for elves ever since I saw that page in the magazine. But my major question is who will be the baddies? I think it should be like darklings or something like I dunno dark . Well the problem is how will they make the heads? or the hair? or if their anything like that pictures helmet with hair? I think the harry potter mermaid hair would look great but as for the helmet with hair like in the picture that would be pretty hard to do. As for the forestmen idea I doubt Lego would bring back an old set like that but I would love it :P
Captain Green Hair Posted February 18, 2009 Posted February 18, 2009 For some reason I thought it said "ELVIS" not "ELVES" . Me too! Like already said, other factions use archers as well. But, the fact that there are no new dwarves sets made, might also be another hint to possible Elve sets.
Neptune Posted February 19, 2009 Posted February 19, 2009 (edited) I guess I see what you mean, but the Crown soldiers have archers too. But maybe the green is a hint... Well knights defend the kingdom. Elves would defend the forests. Edited February 19, 2009 by Neptune
Raven Brickroft Posted February 19, 2009 Posted February 19, 2009 I wouldn't go with Dwarves vs. Elves. Unless the Elves are baddies, it's far from happening. I think it would be the opposite. Dwarves AND Elves VS. another faction. One that doesn't like nature or corrupts nature.

Dwarves AND Elves VS. another faction. One that doesn't like nature or corrupts nature. You're too hung up on this "good versus evil"-thing, in my opinion. In most real-life wars, it hasn't been about "good countries" versus "evil countries", just different sides. Morals are such a subjective thing. And everyone who has read fantasy books and seen fantasy movies know that dwarves and elves hate each other's guts. That still doesn't make either of them an evil faction.
Cardinal Brick Posted February 19, 2009 Posted February 19, 2009 Yessiree. We saw a toy cutlass, an ice cube tray (Hinck's favorite ) and Sir Nadroj saw some piratey minifigs in an Arizona LEGO store, which turned out to be the real deal. So, this has promise! That was my first thought and while I dom't think we should get to excited yet but I think there's a real posability.

I really think Elves are gonna happen.
