Matn Posted July 23, 2009 Posted July 23, 2009 When I saw the pictures I hoped it was Duplo. It was almost impossible to think that LEGO would release Toy Story in a normal minifigure scale. And how they worked it out seems very, very good. But way too detailed! This doesn't look like LEGO at all, except the few normal minifigures. They have made it too detailed. It was one of my favorite movies when I was little, but I don't think I will ever buy these. These aren't compatible with LEGO System. Prince of Persia, on the other hand, looks fantastic! The new animal moulds look, again, too detailed but in the same line as the new cows. So it fits. The minifigures are looking awesome. This is fantastic for making custom (LEGO Harry Potter ) minifigures. Those scarfs, headpieces, torsos,... Quote
CDC Posted July 23, 2009 Posted July 23, 2009 The toystory ones look acurate but I still don't like them.Well i do love the army men , Hah we finally have real lego army helmets The prince of persia figs look nice but they but the camel looks like megabloks and the ostritch looks like it was made out of wood I don't know i think i'm just scared of what will happen with lego in 2010... My thoughts exactly. I kinda like PoP minifigures, i bet they will look even better in the actual sets. Ostrich looks kinda big imo. But toy story stuff is just crap Quote
brickzone Posted July 23, 2009 Posted July 23, 2009 Well, although to some extent it depends on the set design, it looks like these will be great play value for kids. I'm pretty impressed with how well the Toy Story figures are captured, and while not a huge fan of the larger heads and new minifig parts (long arms/legs) it's hard to see what else they could have done. I love the green army men - nice and simple but so effective. Pretty nifty having all those parts in green! The PoP minifigs seem to have some great parts such as the headgear and hair pieces, and the Camel and Ostrich seem to fit in well enough with Lego animals such as the recent cows. I hope the sets don't cost too much because really I'd like to pick up all these - but of course I'd be loathe to do so if the prices are particularly high as other ordinary sets would then come first. Oky Posted July 23, 2009 Posted July 23, 2009 FBTB has posted new, much better pics of all the figs! And guess what - it includes one of an LGM (Little Green Men)! Click the pic to view the Flickr set. Those spaceman torsos will come in very handy for space MOCs! Another observation I made is that even though Buzz' wings don't seem to retract, they do look like they are detachable. Also, it's starting to look like the cowboys' hats are separate from their heads. Just look at the shininess of their faces versus the somewhat ruff texture of their hats. And, boy, are those army men AWESOME! Quote
Matn Posted July 23, 2009 Posted July 23, 2009 From seeing those clear pictures I must say, those figures look pretty good. But it is still way too detailed for normal LEGO figures. The torso's will come in very handy, but those heads... It just doesn't look like LEGO at all. PoP looks still pretty awesome. Quote
Oky Posted July 23, 2009 Posted July 23, 2009 (edited) Also, check out the PoP figs in the link below. Keep in mind, though, that these are still prototypes. Edited July 23, 2009 by Oky Wan Kenobi Quote
General Magma Posted July 23, 2009 Posted July 23, 2009 Wow! What a nice surprise! Great new stuff, Prince of Persia looks like it will be great, same for Toy Story! New kinds of minifigs, new molds, very detailed stuff, one word: AWESOME! It will be a sweet year for LEGO I can see... Quote
Sandy Posted July 23, 2009 Posted July 23, 2009 I'm so in love with the Prince of Persia minifigs! There's just so many of them, so I have to wonder if all of them make it to the actual sets. But that Jake Gyllenhaal minifig will be there for sure, and I will have him! ... Err, it. The ostrich and the camel are obviously just prototypes still, but getting more animals to the System themes is always a plus. Looks like there's going to be a lot to wait for in the upcoming year! Lt. Col. Thok Posted July 23, 2009 Posted July 23, 2009 I'm not to sure about Toy Story (other than Buzz Lightyear! ) but PoP looks awesome!!! Quote
RoflWafls Posted July 23, 2009 Posted July 23, 2009 (edited) The Toy Story minifigures look to "Jack Stone"ish for my liking, the only one I like is the Little Alien I'll definitely pick up one on bricklink! Prince of Persia, I've never heard of it, but I love the minifigures! Those head wraps would be GREAT for Indiana Jones! Edited July 23, 2009 by RoflWafls Quote
VBBN Posted July 23, 2009 Posted July 23, 2009 EW. I know I'm a little on the opposite on the side of the bed here, becuase personally, with the exception of the green soldiers, I think these figs ar horrible. Sure, they are detailed to the bum and have some neat new bits like 3-stud long legs, but I find it to kill what I love as a lego minifig. I know, that if I EVER get that wooody fiure, I will have nightmares about his face. Now the question is, what will the sets look like? As for Prince of Persa or whatever it is, I never saw the show and I am sure those hairbits will be inother sets in 2010. ;] Quote
Klaus-Dieter Posted July 23, 2009 Posted July 23, 2009 The Toy Story minifigures look to "Jack Stone"ish for my liking, the only one I like is the Little Alien I'll definitely pick up one on bricklink! I totally agree with you RaflWafls! The Toy Story minifigs look to much <insert that tiresome argument>, very cartoonish, absolutely not Lego-like! That's not Lego but looks like cheap plastic toys! The Prince of Persia head-gears for the minifigs, the camel and the ostrich look absolutely amazing and totally realitic! It's really a shame that TLG took a licensed theme and did not release its own Arabian knight theme since this means less playability, fleesh minifigs and the worst thing - very expensive sets! The camel and the ostrich would make very well in a City zoo set! Klaus-Dieter Quote
Markypops Posted July 23, 2009 Posted July 23, 2009 Loving the new PoP minifigs, not so sure about the Toy Story, but then again I don't think that they are aimed at people of my age. The new head scarf piece for the PoP, I can see this easily being transfered across to the Indiana Jones line, maybe this will give us a small insight into what will be released for 2010. Quote
Clone OPatra Posted July 23, 2009 Posted July 23, 2009 I actually quite like all of the Toy Story minifigs. Woody and Jesse are not Jack Stone style characters; they have minifigure bodies but new arms and legs. I like the idea of making a new size of minifigure legs to make taller guys and such. And about the heads, I'm not sure they would have looked right at all if LEGO had just designed normal minifig heads. Just look at the first version of Squidward, he was all wrong! I think that they did a brilliant job capturing Toy Story while still retaining their LEGO-ness and providing new minifigure parts that will be great for MOCing. This is actually going to be a theme where the minifigures look exactly like their movie counterparts, which I find very cool! Prince of Persia also seems to be bringing a lot of cool minifigs and some animals too. Quote
Oswald the Rabbit Posted July 23, 2009 Posted July 23, 2009 If anyone has been to a Disney theme park, the Toy Story figures fit in perfectly as characters that you would meet in the parks. Quote
fallentomato Posted July 23, 2009 Posted July 23, 2009 The prince of persia figs look nice but they but the camel looks like megabloks and the ostritch looks like it was made out of wood They are still prototypes. Don't worry I'm sure the final versions will be plastic. The Toy Story minifigs look to much <insert that tiresome argument>, very cartoonish, absolutely not Lego-like! That's not Lego but looks like cheap plastic toys! Klaus-Dieter I think a lot of people are missing the fact that Toy Story is a movie about other toys. The fact that they don't look like Lego really speaks to the excellent job Lego has done at recreating the characters. I'm personally glad they didn't try to make the characters have standard Lego heads - I think they'd end up looking even creepier that way. Sort of like the clone wars figures. I do agree that the alien and the army men are the best of the Toy Story bunch though. Zurg's head looks too much like those ugly bionicle minifigs for me though. And of course all the Prince of Persia figs look awesome. So many turbans! Quote
Darth Legolas Posted July 23, 2009 Posted July 23, 2009 Well...at least we get army helmets. And I'm sure Lego will get tons of money from the 5 and under fanbase. But hey... army helmets! Quote
blueandwhite Posted July 23, 2009 Posted July 23, 2009 If anyone has been to a Disney theme park, the Toy Story figures fit in perfectly as characters that you would meet in the parks. That's exactly how I view these figures. Heck; with all the licences we've got it would make for a great Macy's Day Parade. Balloons, floats, marching bands and Toy Story figs down main street. The creepy look of the figs only makes them more appropriate given how creepy alot of the balloons and floats are at a lot of parades. Quote
Sandy Posted July 23, 2009 Posted July 23, 2009 As for Prince of Persa or whatever it is, I never saw the show and I am sure those hairbits will be inother sets in 2010. ;] What show? Prince of Persia is a videogame series with a movie that these sets are based on coming out. Just FYI. Quote

These are painted resin and appear to have just come out of a rapid proto-typer, more specifically, SLA, which leaves that Grainy and layered look. The figs do look good but I keep feeling that they look more M[another brick]ish...maybe it's the movie-realistic head vs. the LEGO interpretation. From a marketing point of view it makes sense that they go this way. You're right...Zurg does look like he has a bionicle-ish head...heck, thought the same thing of the Fallen during the financially successful Michael Bay fiasco [yeah, with better editing, taking it down to under 2 hrs, it would've been an awesome movie...I digress ] Irregardless, looking forward to seeing these next year...my wallet, not so much Quote
tin7_creations Posted July 23, 2009 Posted July 23, 2009 ok... the 3 eyed green martians have become my favourite of the new toy story minifigs. they are EXACTLY how i would have made them. Quote
Lord Admiral Posted July 23, 2009 Posted July 23, 2009 I'm definitely digging the toy soldiers. The extra-tall figures, like woody, jessie (?), and Zurg don't appeal to me, but Buzz looks promising. I'm surprised they don't have a Rex yet, as they already have dinosaur molds from the dino attack line. I'm not surprised they don't have a Mr. Potato Head or Etch. I'm kind of disappointed there's no Bo Peep with her sheep or the penguin. And I'd love to see Sid's toys too. The POP figures are nice too, but the new animals are what really shines. I don't know much about the POP franchise other than the Sands of Time game, so I can't tell how well the figures are done. But they'd look good in a generic setting, which I think is what most people are excited about. I know these are probably prototypes and subject to revision. I can't wait to see how things turn out. Oh, and maybe it's because of the indoor lighting (or lack thereof), but the photographer of fbtb's pictures opened up the lense too much. The depth of field is too shallow. It makes for a nice picture, but it's headache-inducing for people who're trying to examine the subjects in detail. Quote
Tinn-man Posted July 23, 2009 Posted July 23, 2009 (edited) Hey everybody, a minifigure CAN ride on the ostrich!!! Link Also, whatever set the army men come in, I'm buying three. Oh, and using the tall legs for a basket ball player! Oh, and making a rocker minifig with the prince of persia's new hair. I'm keep thinking of uses for these new pieces. They're so exciting. (but I still don't like woody ). Oh, one more thing. From this picture, it does look like Buzz's jetpack will close. Link Edited July 23, 2009 by Tinn-man Quote
______ Posted July 23, 2009 Posted July 23, 2009 I love the army men! And the prince of Persia looks like Assassins' creed to me, awesome! Quote
tin7_creations Posted July 23, 2009 Posted July 23, 2009 (edited) i finally figured out what's bugging me about the toy story figs, spent all night looking at them... the buzz, zurg, prospect pete, army men, green martians are all pretty great... what bugs me are woody and jessie, it's not the extra long legs, i dont' mind those, i've always been looking for a new mold like that.... it's the wide brim hats... the hats are too big for the actual fig... don't know if anyone agrees with me...
