Tinn-man Posted July 23, 2009 Posted July 23, 2009 i dont' mind those, i've always been looking for a new mold like that.... it's the wide brim hats... the hats are too big for the actual fig... don't know if anyone agrees with me... I thought the hats and head were all one mold, that's why I hate them. Moulding head, hair, and hats in one piece is like...megablocks *shudder*. Everything else is cool and fine with me. Quote
Lord Admiral Posted July 23, 2009 Posted July 23, 2009 i finally figured out what's bugging me about the toy story figs, spent all night looking at them...the buzz, zurg, prospect pete, army men, green martians are all pretty great... what bugs me are woody and jessie, it's not the extra long legs, i dont' mind those, i've always been looking for a new mold like that.... it's the wide brim hats... the hats are too big for the actual fig... don't know if anyone agrees with me... I'm looking at those hats, and the only thought I have is whether they'll fit on a normal minifigure's head. None of the heads appeal to me (even the martian), but I don't think it has anything to do with the hat. I think for Woody in particular, the scale is a bit off. He's kind of creepy, now that I take a good look at the head some more, as is Jessie albeit less so. The prospector, whose hat is even wider, looks OK though. Quote
strider406 Posted July 23, 2009 Posted July 23, 2009 The Army men and the LGM's are great! However I think the leg, arm, and head molds are a little too much. There's a fine line between Lego looking like Toy Story and Toy Story looking like Lego. Quote
hewkii9 Posted July 23, 2009 Posted July 23, 2009 Thoughts in order - Buzz, Woody, and the rocket-car: I like Woody, Buzz is awesome, is that the car from Toy Story [first one]? Army Men: Awesome! Green binoculars [i can make a Slitheen!] I like their little mounting plates, too. Headwraps, capes, and printed legs: Prince of Persia, woo hoo! I almost hope there's no Castle next year so that I have enough cashola to get these! I especially love the cone helmets, dark tan turban, and Prince hair. Quote
andy0002 Posted July 23, 2009 Posted July 23, 2009 (edited) all i can say is that when lego and ANY disney animated series gets together....bad things happen! omg, look at jessie and woody! their arms and legs are CRAP! they dont look lego. they look like woody and buzz chopped their arms and legs off and got some sort of deformed minifigures arms and legs re-attached. the heads are interesting.... not lego though. the only thing these figs are good for is torsos, the actual characters themselves to be never taken apart..... and what MIGHT be a cool idea... luffy from One Piece. the PoP guys look awesome, but i doubt they'll be as easy to get as we think. hopefully they wont be too rare, cuz i like the white feather, gold armor, hair, legs, and just alltogether that dude with gold designs printed on his legs. that guys awesome. i REALLY hope somebody else gets pics because the person who took those needs a better camera, or maybe turn on the light in that place! i collect lincensed perchandise so really i kinda have to get woody, buzz, and the PoP main character. bullseye would be nice too. CONGRATZ LEGO DISNEY....U DID SOMETHING GOOD THIS TIME AROUND..XD Pop is deffinatly on my list of stuff i will b picking up next year!! Edited July 23, 2009 by andy0002 Quote
Zarkan Posted July 23, 2009 Posted July 23, 2009 I must say that I'm very suprised at all the negative reactions to the Toy Story minfigs. And yet, I think I understand now why so many people are against them: because they're something new. These figures look nothing like any other figures we have ever seen before, and they contain a far greater amount of detail and texture than any previosu minifig designs. Indeed, they are totally different, and may even be quite weird to some people. There's just one problem: this was simply the only way to capture these figures. I think we were all kidding ourselves when we thought that the toy story minfigures would look like other normal figures. The designs of the toys in the movies are simply far too three dimensional and have far too many scale differences, compared to the relatively flat and simple designs of normal minfigures. These new designs are simply a way to keep the personalities of the toy story characters while still allowing them to be lego compatible. Seriously guys, ask youself one question: why do you dislike these figures? If the answer is "because they don't look like any figures that have come before them," then IMO you're being a bit closed minded to new ideas. There's nothing wrong with change as long as it still remains the high quality style of Lego. And as far as I can see, these figures all meet that criteria perfectly. Oh, and the prince of persia minifigs rock as well. Beautiful new torsos and head pieces, and the camel and emu are simply incredible. Quote

I agree with the Prince Of Persia minifigures, but you've got me wrong here on my opinion with the Toy story minifigs. I had always been saying they'd look like freaks, and you are correct though, they are indeed something new. What they aren't though, is Lego. I'm pretty good with distinguishing types of plastic, and although I don't know for sure, and these are preliminary, they seem to be the same plastic as the 2009 Yoda head. It's not too easily recognizable as Lego. Besides the awesome Toy soldiers (Helmet ,) these parts from the Toy story minifigures can never be used as anything else. Their hats aren't even detachable! The only good things to come out of this besides the Toy Soldiers are those freakishly long legs on the Cowgirl and rainbows of recolors! Edited July 24, 2009 by Darth Legolas Quote
Finnigan Posted July 23, 2009 Posted July 23, 2009 I tend to agree that some of the negativity toward the Toy Story minifigs is because they are new and different. I kind of expected the Toy Story line to be duplo and was having trouble imagining what Toy Story minifigs would look like. I was pleasantly surprised to see that they were minifigure based with some new features (notably the new heads). I'm still not sure how I feel about them and will have to reserve judgement until I see the new sets or more pics. However I still think that this line has lots of possibility. (Giants, anyone? Especially as new foes for the fantasy castle line? ) As for PoP, I like it! The new hair, torsos, turbans....not to mention the camel and emu! I'm really looking forward to this! Perhaps a little off topic, but I am unfamiliar with PoP. What kind of sets can we expect from this? I thought I saw a pic of a pyramid somewhere in the flickr photo stream....I'm at work and can't access the pics right now, so maybe someone else can confirm. Finn Quote
ShaddowCroc Posted July 23, 2009 Posted July 23, 2009 Okay, those Toy Story pictures are one of the most epically awesome things I've ever seen. So much win . . . I can't believe these are real. It's like a dream. An awesome, totally real dream. :'D Quote
JopieK Posted July 23, 2009 Posted July 23, 2009 I like those soldiers, looks like they are more and more going toward army LEGO, to bad they look like marsians, but promising idea, toy LEGO soldiers :) Quote
simonjedi Posted July 23, 2009 Posted July 23, 2009 I didn't realise Woody and Jesse had new molded torso's and legs, I thought they look weird. I love the Army men and the Green Alien looks awesome. I hope they release a keyring of one. PoP stuff looks useful for the Indiana Jones theme. Based on the pics I'll give the line a , looking forward to seeing the sets. Quote
Zapper Brick Posted July 23, 2009 Posted July 23, 2009 I'm looking forward to Buzz, the LGM, and the soilders, but I think Woody, Jessie, and the stinking guy are kinda weird. Not that I'm not open to new possibilities, they are just.... abnormal? RC looks pretty awesome though, and I think the best of the tall figs is Zurg. That guy was hilarious in the movie. Quote
Guss Posted July 23, 2009 Posted July 23, 2009 (edited) I just watched the frontpage, and wow! the models are just awesome, I think I'm gonna buy all the models XD I want a lot of these green aliens! A LOT! ^^ Edited July 23, 2009 by Guss Quote
Pigbrick Posted July 23, 2009 Posted July 23, 2009 *gasp* cough, cough! Whoa, kind of shocked about all the special molds for the Toy Story sets! I really don't think they're bad but boy was I surprised to see all those special minifigure pieces! I'm not a big fan on very specific molds, like the heads, since the use in other things is going to be minimal (or none) but the detail is very nice. Also, it looks like Zerg's chest/shoulder piece is separate from his head (since it looks like his head is turned a little) which makes me very happy. And, nothing new, the PoP figures look amazing . Matn Posted July 23, 2009 Posted July 23, 2009 Ah, I've given the Toy Story figures some thoughts and... They are indeed awesome. At first, like I said in my earlier post, this doesn't look like LEGO. But it's a very good job by LEGO, they have represented the characters very well. It's actually nice to see such an amount of detail in such a little figure. It's something else. Quote
danim Posted July 23, 2009 Posted July 23, 2009 After hearing about the toy story line I could not wait, now that I have seen them these are top of my 2010 purchases I love the woody, buzz, RC, jessie (apart from the mouth) the little green aliens as well as the army guys and bullseye, I am not to keen on the prospector or zurg and I do not like PoP so I will not be getting those sets Quote
______ Posted July 23, 2009 Posted July 23, 2009 Do you think the army men will come in a toy army vehicle like in the movies? I want a green helicopter! Quote
Klaus-Dieter Posted July 23, 2009 Posted July 23, 2009 I don't know anything about Prince of Persia - so I even don't know in which time it is placed but I assume the Middle Ages, isn't it? So I hope that TLG will re-release the "real" scimitar (from the Orient Expedition theme) in grey color and not giving us that troll swords! Klaus-Dieter Quote
MrTools Posted July 23, 2009 Posted July 23, 2009 I wonder if they will put the toy solders in a small 10.00 dollar set, kind of like a battle pack, if so that will be great! Quote

SuvieD Posted July 23, 2009 Posted July 23, 2009 PoP is not all that exciting for me as I do not collect any flesh figures. Many of the torsos have flesh printed into them and that makes them less usable for customs or modded figures. The head wraps are cool looking but end up being extremely limiting in terms of use. The highlights are the turkish helm, animals, and the hair pieces. Toy story is rather exciting though. First because LEGO is taking minifigures further than they ever have before. The willingness to go with longer arms and legs, and highly detailed plus size heads makes me excited for the future of the minifigure. Sure the heads are not so great but the torsos will work perfectly for western, space, and for the first time ever military figures. The idea of interesting alien figures seems very cool I am now looking forward to the Ben 10 stuff. Overall, I think these will be excellent additions for LEGO and I am planning on getting several of the Toy Story sets just for the figures, something I have not done for many of the previous years sets. Spyder Posted July 23, 2009 Posted July 23, 2009 I Cut and pasted some pictures on my paint program of the Army Men, i found on Flikr Here's hoping that they all come in the same set. Personally, I would prefer a bucket of these guys, like they are in Toy Story. ;) Gaaaahhhhh! Please Lego please! I'd even be content with a slightly small bucket. I am planning on getting several of the Toy Story sets just for the figures Same here. I'll probably also get PoP sets just for the new pieces and minifigs. Quote
The Alchemyst Posted July 23, 2009 Posted July 23, 2009 omg, look at jessie and woody! their arms and legs are CRAP! they dont look lego. they look like woody and buzz chopped their arms and legs off and got some sort of deformed minifigures arms and legs. Please capitalize and use some sense of grammar. >.> And the arms are old, used in the latest Fleshie Hagrid, from Prisoner of Azkaban sets, I think, and the torsos are regular minifigs torsos. Anyway, I'm still very eager for 2010, the figs are very realistic. I do think Hasbro still has rights to Mr. Potato Head, and in no way are rights transferable, I doubt we'll be seeing him. It's like how Disney doesn't make Mr. Potato Head toys, yet makes Woody, Buzz, Jessie, Rex [Hope to see him] and other toys. [-TA-] Quote
Commodore Hornbricker Posted July 23, 2009 Posted July 23, 2009 Awesome! I love Toy Story so I'll have to pick up some of those sets even though the parts don't really fit in with my normal building styles. I am most excited about POP. Those figures and animals are exceptional and go a long way toward increasing the minifigure world's diversification! All these new molds represent a siginificant investment my Lego and whether they end up in this theme and/or spread to other themes or future new themes the fact that they now exist means we will likely see them in various sets for some time I hope!
