you should go have a look @ the Sheriff Woody that I made:

Sheriff Woody and Buzz Lightyear

Hey, those are pretty good! I believe the official Woody will look just like that, except that he'll have a different face and maybe some hip prints (belt). I think Buzz's chest armor and jetpack will be one new mold, though, and maybe there will be a trans-clear half dome you can put on it (the upper half of Sandy Cheeks' space helmet?). Also, he will probably have lime green hips and purple hands (to mix up the color scheme a bit). Would be awesome if you could stick some plates to his jetpack to imitate the wings! :sweet:

As I mentioned some time ago in a different thread, I wonder what the sets of a Toy Story theme will be like since everything is supersized in relation to the characters. :sceptic:

I just hope the Toy Story faces aren't cartoonized.

I bet that's the case, though, since this theme is based on a cartoon, just like The Clone Wars or Avatar. And to me, that's a good thing.

I hope they expand the line to Disney Classics.

Seconded! :sweet: There is sooo much potential!

I don't wan't them to over do the Disney license. LEGO Wall-E would be okay, but not a LEGO Ratatulie (did I spell it right?) or a LEGO Finding Nemo. :sceptic:

Maybe a LEGO Up might be good, since it is concentrated on people. (the upcoming Pixar film.)

Awesome. I think this is a great move. I remember reading a while back when a fan posted how they'd like to see a Pixar/Disney/LEGO combo. Well, whoever wanted that, congratulations :classic: :classic: :classic:

That might have been me. (Link) In that case, thanks!

I like the idea of prince of persia :classic: , but what have TLC done ,think of how many disney movies have actual people in them. Just imagine a Nemo minifigure. This isn't going turn turn out right, I just know it :sceptic:

that's quite interesting. i guess i was also on the ball several threads later on CARS and TOYSTORY & TOYSTORY 2. :cry_happy:

it's like you and i have sixth sense!

sorry, i am not aware of POP, so wouldn't have guessed it in a million years.

anyway, i think it's quite possible that the toystory line will have the protagonists in action figure size aka KK2/bionicle action figure size. that means they can make a buzz lightyear that actually has a light up laser beam (via light brick). or a woody with a sound brick. or mechanized buzz (via new power function bricks). also it will allow them to build an accurate lego BARBIE despite the unrealistic proportion.

i would however love to have MF playsets but not sure how doable it will be. they did manage to get SBSP in mf size though...so it's quite possible.

my guess would be that duplo cars and toystory should be instant hits. poor MB, losing one of its key theme! :sadnew:

Oh, very interesting news! I'm admittingly most excited about obtaining a Buzz Lightyear minifig and any cool character from Prince of Persia. I don't know anything about the latter, but it should be a gold mine for minifig parts!

Batbrick Away!

Woohoo, Prince of Persia! I remember playing the original on a very noisy, big ol' Apple... Am I getting old?

Alfred Molina is going for the Most Minifigurized Actor Ever award, apparently. Quick, Harrison, make another big movie that TLC would want to pick up on!

Anyway... Loads of potential here. I'm giddy as a schoolboy about all this. TLC and Disney, sitting in a tree! Yay! If TLC handles this one properly, we may yet see a tiny Johnny Depp walking the plank sometime. That'd be soooooo cool! Or going back to the classics. Minifig Robin Hood? Brilliance! I really hope that'll happen one day. Until that time, Prince of Persia and Toy Story sound kick-@$$ too! Bring on 2010! (Jeesh, 2009 only just begun!)

Thank you very much for that news, achris! :sweet:

New licensed themes?!

Here my comment:

Pro:

I think that mainly with Toy Story products TLG will make a good disposal. I really liked the two Toy Story movies when I was a child and I even still like them! :classic:

Contra:

I'm not that sure whehter TLG does distend with producing more and more products on different licensed themes. :sceptic:

My opinion:

I personally am very sure that I won't buy these sets since there are already four different Lego themes which I collect - and this is enough (mainly for my wallet).

I would much more like to see some new non-licensed themes like Western or Romans than getting more and more licensed sets. I do really not doubt that TLG will make the sets very well. But non-licensed themes open much more possibilities because you do not always have the movie in your mind when looking at, building up or playing with this sets.

To put it in a nutshell: I'm not against those new licensed products but some new non-licensed themes like Western or Romans would be much better!

Lego Toy Story? BRILLIANT! I love Toy Story muchly so, and I am an avid Disney fan. I look forward to seeing pictures of the System sets =D

Prince of Persia sounds interesting as well. I never knew Disney were making the film, and I'm sure it could be good.

I didn't know they were making the film either. I'm really looking forward to the sets now!

They could do a series of sets about scenes from classic Disney movies like Aladdin and the Cave of Wonders, comes with Aladdin, Abu, Jafar, Iago, Carpet and Genie and lots of gold and traps. Or Sleeping Beauty Castle with Dragon, Sleeping Beauty, Prince Phillip, Maleficent and a castle covered in thorns.

Really awesome to hear. I didn't even know a film was comming from Prince of Persia. I think those sets will be great, I think they'll look a lot like the Indiana Jones theme. It will bring great figures and nice eastern temples and the like. I'm looking forward to this.

Toy Story was one of my favorite movies when I was little. I hope they put a good effort in making these sets and the figures that belong with it. I'm not sure how they will produce the figures, with all the diversity in toys in the movie. Also looking forward to this, if it is something nice made, I can' wait.

Buzz Lightyear's helmet will most probably be this:

bob012.jpg

Actually, I don't think they'll use that piece because Buzz's helmet is just a half dome. At least I hope they don't, 'cause when you put a normal minifig head into Sandy's helmet, it looks kinda weird. So, I really think they'll make two new molds for this: A new shoulder piece which will represent Buzz's chest armor and jet pack, and one that is a trans-clear half dome, like one of Sandy's helmet pieces, but without the hole for the minifig neck. That half dome piece will then go on top of the shoulder piece.

That's what I think anyway.

I'm pretty sure that they will do a little set from that scene in the first Toy Story where they meet Buzz for the first time on Andy's bed. It'll have Buzz's "spaceship", Buzz and Woody themselves, and maybe some of the other toys, like Rex the Dinosaur. :sweet:

Hopefully these themes will replace Harry Potter and Batman and not SW. Sorry, I just don't like those sets.

Cant wait till Star Wars ends once and for all! :sadnew:

So If Lego will make a Toystory theme... Maybe we will see some Lego in Toystory3 movie? :classic:

guess you didn't read the announcement that carefully! :sadnew: jan 2010 will be the first wave of TS&TS2 sets. followed by may 2010 with TS3 sets.

it's very natural for TLG to want to find another blockbuster license theme. a company cannot solely depends on a single line. it will put the entire firm in jeopardy if something happens to cancel the theme. also it puts TLG in a much weaker negotiating position with the license owner (lucasart in the case of SW).

if you haven't notice, TLG has been trying to find a "successor" to SW for years. batman wasn't it. IJ was okay but not at the scale of SW. SBSP okay with krusty krab and the pineapple set but beyond that, the sets start to stink. notice how the retailers are reluctant to carry any SB sets. the plankton bucket, bus, mrs puff sets are all sold at massive d/c.

as mentioned in another forum, a license theme has the potential to outsell non-license theme. a SW fan may buy lego SW sets even though he may not normally buy lego. ie. he will buy a han solo lego mf because its a han solo but he wont buy lego pieces to make his own han solo mf. add to that, your normal lego fans and you have twice the customers who will buy your sets.

as i mentioned in the previous "dream license theme" thread, i think toystory/tlg is a good combination for three reasons.

1. to be a successful theme, you need massive fanbase. one which keeps lapping up any merchandise that is put for sale. fans have been buying SW merchandise for 30+ years and still buying.

similarly TS has been selling well for almost 20 years, and still is. with the release of TS3, you can be sure the success of the franchise will continue.

2. a successful theme also has lots of chars for fans to collect. both protagonists and antagonists. these chars must be distinguished and interesting enough for fans to collect. passing chars will not sell well. take mrs puff or fishy bus driver in the SBSP theme. those aren't interesting enough that all the fans want them. the most notable chars in SBSP are mr krab, sb, patrick, squidward, gary, and maybe sandy.

TS has rex, mr potatohead, hammy, RC, bo, shark, jessie, stinky pete, woody, buzz, barbie! once a theme sells well, you can start to make the minor chars.

cars as well is a very marketable theme because of the plenty of chars to make. kinda sad there isn't a system version. i was thinking they could have made cars in system version - in racers format. i.e. with pullback motors and the foldable tracks. but it's probably hard to brick build the chars using lego system bricks. duplo is easier since you just use specialized mold...kinda like how MB did it.

3. the chars must look good in lego version. this factor can be controlled by TLG somewhat. what makes a char look good in lego? hard to say, but i would think cartoons are probably easier to "legorize." take a look at the SW clone wars chars. they translate to lego versions easily. same with sbsp.

i think TS's popularity mostly centered on the chars. notice how the merchandise never ever show a scene but always the chars. i think this theme will definitely take the form/construct of the KK2 line or bionicle line, ie you have constructed "action figures" consisting of buzz lightyear with "real light up laser gun", and a woody with a sound brick, maybe even a zurg with a gatling shooter, followed by some playsets. i hope they make rubber balls for shooting!

If only! Beauty and the Beast too!

As for Toy Story, we need a Lego Mrs Nesbit!

20 years? That's a bit of an exaderration (spelling?).

Anyway, I'm quite looking forward to the Toy Story theme. Some of those pieces, parts, and minifig parts should be a little useful for Indy and Star Wars mocs.

I think Buzz's helmet will be Sandy's Dome Helmet, maybe just a little modified. They might make the back half white and print it, or something like that. Hopefully Woody will have a fedora, rather than the old cowboy hat.

Maybe in dark brown? That would be nice.
