This may have been done before, but with the new Power Miners and Agents themes out, I thought it would be a fun post. Basically just what are your Top 3 Best or Favorite themes and then your Top 3 worst or just themes that you have no use for.

Here's Mine:

BEST

1. City theme - just love this, feels like a real life Simcity.

2. Technics - used to not care for this, but Lego has realy taken it to a new level with the Power Functions features.

3. Power Miners - my latest kick.

WORST

1. Bionicle - just hate it

2. Spongebob - not to pick on the kids sets, but just dont see how this could be a Lego System set, Duplo yes.

3. Exo-Force - really lame

Runner up for worst: Indiana Jones - I just think Lego is reaching with these sets. Let's face it there's just not a lot to translate from the movies into Legos. I would like to see the tank from Last Crusade but aside from that it just seems like Lego is really hurting for ideas on this line. I love IJ too, but I can't get into this set.

Your thoughts?

I actually think that Indy is one of, if not, the best themes. The figures we have gotten from this line are near perfect, and the sets are great as well. The entire 2009 line (with the exception of the Flying Wing  ) are in my opinion, some of Lego's best sets in years.

Best:

Space - 09 Space Police looks incredible.

Castle - It's so much fun to build armies!

Agents - One of LEGO's better new themes, and the 09 wave looks great!

Worst:

Exo-Force - Skeletal designs, stupid minifigs, boring premise. I want a Mecha theme as much as the next guy, but this isn't it.

Galidor - Isn't this obvious?

Technic - I know some people out there dig Technic, but I could never get into it since LEGO stopped making interesting fiction themes and started focusing on trucks and machinery. Rather boring- isn't that what we have City for?

Runner up: Star Wars (Clone Wars Subtheme). The minifigs are sparse and creepy, the flick-fire missiles are far too abundant, the designs vary from mediocre to lazy, and the prices are ridiculous. I guess this is what happens when LEGO makes sets based off of Star Wars' worst film.

Uh oh, I see a trend here... it seems that this topic is already rapidly going from "best and worst themes" to "favorite and least favorite themes," which are two totally different premises. Just because you guys may hate a certain theme doesn't make it the worst theme - the worst theme would simply be a theme that has the least use or enjoyment overall. Anyway, here's my picks.

Best three themes:

1. City

2. Castle

3. Space

Worst three themes:

1. Galidor

2. 4+ Pirates

3. Lego Island Extreme Stunts

That's quite an interesting choice, considering that you both have a Lego IJ avatar and said you love IJ.

I think we should be careful to make sure that this doesn't turn into a Bionicle hate topic.

That being said...

Best

Castle - Love it, and with the exception of the King's Chariot this is another great year.

Bionicle - The sets have been meh for a few years, but the story's still pretty good.

Agents - Love the idea and the minifigs.

Worst

Galidor - Duh.

Jurassic Park III - The worst execution of a license ever. Johnny Thunder and a cameraman do not bear any relevance to the movie. Hopefully Lego'll get the eventual JPIV license and fix it.

Technic - Just holds no appeal to me at all.

All in no particular order:

Best:

-Pirates (the original line, 1989-1999 I think)

-Castle (mainly the BF and Crusader era or mid 80's to mid 90's)

-Space/City (mainly late 80's to mid 90's)

So basically the staples of LEGO. Themes like Indiana Jones or Star Wars are good as well (mainly OT-sets, clonewars sucks (sets and the series)), but set-quality varies pretty much and has dropped a lot recently, especailly Star Wars (although the upcomming Endor and Hoth sets look like they could change the tide again).

Ninja and WW are great as well, but not top-3, but then again, they weren't around that long.

Worst:

-Galidor

-4+

-Bionicle

-Znap

All are very un-lego-like (hardly any real bricks, lots of useless and <insert that tiresome argument> pieces etc.). I don't like stuff like Clickits or Bellville either, but they seem to serve their purpose/targeted audience better+ Bellville brought us a lot of very usefull food-items (and has more real LEGO than the themes mentioned above), and I don't consider Clickits a real theme, it is more like the LEGO-merchandise stuff.

I should've clarified this. I LOVE the IJ minifigs. Wish they sold them seperately. I bought the Ark Chase set, and I'd love to get the Shanghi Set for the Short Round figure, but the sets in general just dont do much for me. Not to mention (along with Star Wars) the latest movie was so bad why should I care about the sets from it?

Best:

-Classic pirates

-Space from the 90's (including small themes like ice planet, spyrius, space police, etc)

-Castle from 90's and earlier

Worst:

-Galidor

-Bionicle

-Knights Kingdom

-Exo-force

There lots of other like classic town, island xtreme stunts (I actually really liked that theme), wild west, xtreme team, Star wars, etc that were also good.

Best

Technic (model line)

Space

City

My favorite theme is Technic, and it's the only one that has consistently been good year after year, as opposed to the bad patches or no-shows that most other long standing themes went through at some point.

Worst

Galidor

Jack Stone/4J

Roboriders

The last one was a crappy precursor to Bionicle; the models were made of big, useless parts and couldn't even stay upright. I got a pack of all six sets as a gift once, and still haven't decided what to do with them.

Exactly. I have no interest at all in Castle, Pirates or most of the licensed themes, but that doesn't make them bad themes in my book.

I know some people out there dig Technic, but I could never get into it since LEGO stopped making interesting fiction themes and started focusing on trucks and machinery. Rather boring- isn't that what we have City for?

City models don't actually work. Technic is all about the mechanisms. :sweet:

That would be Life on Mars, which is pretty different...

Also, for an admin, you're quite feisty.

For an Algernon, you're feisty too!

Life on Mars, thank you. My mistake, sorry. But I do believe he meant that was Mars Mission 1. Anyway, I like calling you doofus.

BEST:

Star Wars- Clones, Walkers, Oh my!

Bionicle: It's getting worse but still is #2.

Viking: For me, an extremely new set with a destiny cut short from greatness.

Worst:

Exo-force, I regret from buying $50 worth of that ****. good riddance it's discontinued.

Avatar: almost spent a huge chunk, but their sets are **.

Spongebob: do i need to explain?

Best themes:

1. City (For me this theme includes trains, the modular houses, and the factory and creator houses.)

2. Castle (from the beginning 80s till the mid-90s)

3. Pirates (Here I'm thinking of the old pirate sets more than of the new ones.)

Worst themes:

1. Galidor

2. Bionicle

3. Exo-Force

Best:

Agents (My current favourite)

Exo Force (My previous Favourite)

Adventurers (My "back in the day" Favourite)

Worst:

Spongebob (I hate it I hate it I HATE IT!!)

Star Wars (It sucks, too expensive, far too popular and removes the focus from classic Lego to replicas of boring films. An anamathea on LEGO)

Bionicle (It has gone on long enough. Please end it nicely)

No, I'm not being contrary (much  ) I rather enjoyed Exo-Force, a decade of mecha building struggle ended with the Grand Titan, even though it was skeletal I could bulk it up and had a framework to build up from. Agents is just the theme for me this year. Spongebob is just not on. I'm sorry, its really irritating. Star Wars... Fleshtone figures, high prices and a huge percentage of Lego fandom who spend the time not focused on SW taking figures from the classic themes to adapt as extras for their Star Warsy lameness :hmpf_bad:

Bionicle was good in the beginning. Heroic warriors fighting the evil on their adopted home. Now they all look as evil as each other and fight for glory, not honour.

Ho hum

Wait... you're criticizing the Star Wars Theme BECAUSE it's popular? *sigh* As I predicted, this topic is rapidly descending into a "favorite and least favorite themes" topic, which is not what the topic states. Look, if you hate a theme, fine, but you can't automatically rule it out as the worst. This is where Bionicle always takes a ton of bashing that it doesn't deserve. Comments like "oh, I can't pronounce the names, so it's terrible" and "the pieces are totally useless" are not only not true but are also rather silly. The theme was never meant to be for AFOLS - and neither are any of the other regular lego themes - but that hasn't stopped people like Jinzo, Cajun, Darth Vader, and BigFatSlob from using the pieces in amazing ways. I'm getting really tired of people using the same repetitive statements to justify their unwarranted bashing. :hmpf_bad:

And it's not just that. Now, it seems that some people are taking it as far as flaming those who like certain themes. Or at least, you seem to be, Peppermint. I don't think it's very nice of you to bash all the people who love the Starwars theme so much. Have they committed some unforseen crime against you for liking a theme that you despise? :sceptic:

Ugh, this is seriously getting annoying. :hmpf:
