Darth_Legois Posted February 20, 2009 Posted February 20, 2009 My top 3 themes: My top 3 themes Star Wars City Space It was tough deciding TBH I would also have Agents and some others up there but they're not in my top 3 but some of my fav's... Three WORST themes ever made 4+ Juniors Belville Uhh cant think of anything else... Quote
SlyOwl Posted February 20, 2009 Posted February 20, 2009 1. Castle (especially the current line) - Easily my favourite. So many ways to take it. 2. Aquazone/Stingrays - Love 'em sooo much! 3. Adventurers/OE (Jungle in particular) - My actual favourite genre, but I can see more expansion with Castle, and I like Aquazone better for the colour scheme. Worst... 1. Jack Stone 2. Bionicle - I lost the plot with these guys after the original Toa came out. 3. Town/City - Dull, dull, dull. Whilst Cafe Corner and co. are very nice, the normal sets are boring and plain, and have been since the beginning. What, no Pirates? I can't say I'm too big a fan of the old sets, and I haven't got any of the new ones, so the line itself doesn't score too well with me. The concept does, but can't save the sets. Quote

Thee Pirate Posted February 20, 2009 Posted February 20, 2009 (edited) So, I guess this'll end up being a controversial post :-p I originally had Creator/Tubs higher than Pirates, but after writing out my little pirates deal, I realized I really should put that first. Top 3 Best themes Pirates Creator/Tubs Space Top 3 Worst Galidor Bionicle Znap Pirates gave us the first heads that had more than just smiles on their face. We got eyepatches, beards, mustaches, hair, shooting cannons, epaulets, ship hulls, row boats, and a host of other parts we had never seen before that're still being used or seen today. We have since seen the eyepatches in Castle, Space, Agents, Wild West; the beards in every single Lego theme released since then including, Castle, City, Star Wars, Indiana Jones, Space and Poser Miners; mustaches and painted hair have been seen in as many themes as well; shooting cannons, dare I say, have also made appearances in many themes, from the horrid cannons from 4+, to the flick fire missiles seen in Indiana Jones, Star Wars, and Castle. Although design varied greatly, I'm pretty sure Pirates had it first; epaulets got seen in Adventurers and Space; ships hulls in Viking, Castle, and Time Travelers, and that cute little 4 wide row boat has been in practically everything since it was released for Pirates. Pirates got the first rifles and pistols, and even if it wasn't very historical, one day one of those guns was used by me for a bank robber to hold up a bank, and the next day it was a gamma blaster that Blacktron II used to shoot at Space Police. Dare I say, Pirates is the farthest reaching theme Lego has ever created. Creator/Tubs should be self explanatory, but in the event that it's not, what's more "Lego" than buying a ton of very standard bricks and being able to build anything and everything from a space port to a pirate city? When I was a kid, I had a few town, space, and pirate sets, 1 green baseplate, and two tubs or whatever they used to be called. I built in micro scale (although I didn't know that's what it was called at the time, I built "gigantic" space ships using a couple plates that could fly around and destroy "vast" cities, I didn't care that my pirate fort had blue "paint" on the walls here and there.. Creator/Tubs capture the essence of Lego. Space, nothing is more imaginative than exploring the heavens. Anything can happen. It goes on forever! There is so much to explore, and so much to be found. Lego has explored many different aspects of this with the insectoid UFO series, they've explored Space piracy with Blacktron, Space gave us the first raised baseplates. They had sweet little moon craters on them space gave us the monorail which has ended up getting used in countless City MOCs, and even a city set itself, and Lego has created what I believe to be some amazing alien minifig parts for SP3. That is another line I'm looking forward to the release of. God damn, I am gonna be so broke this year. I've already spent a crapload on new Pirate and IJ sets, SP3 is coming out this year, and I have an engagement ring to buy. Top 3 Worst Galidor. Need I say more? It's already been stated time after time. Bionicle, apparently it has a very loyal fanbase and they'll defend it to they're blue in the face. I just don't get it. I guess there's these biomechanical beings that fight each other... That's cool, I guess. I dabbled in it a little bit, but I never got it. Yeah, some of the pieces can be incorporated into MOC's, but as a whole they're only good for building more biomechanical beings.. I just don't get it. Znap. I have seen it's parts used in a few really good MOC's, but that doesn't change the fact that it was, as a whole, a really bad theme. *edit - spelling Edited February 20, 2009 by Thee Pirate Quote

I don't usually react that way, but WOW, I never expected someone to list TOWN as one of his three worst themes. Just wow. I'm afraid I'm having a lot of trouble understanding how anyone could pust a theme like that at the bottom, even if it isn't their favorite. Quote
Glaciator Posted February 20, 2009 Posted February 20, 2009 Best: 1. Bionicle 2. Power Miners 3. Exo-Force Worst: 1. Star Wars 2. Galidor 3. Spongebob Squarepants Quote
Peppermint_M Posted February 20, 2009 Posted February 20, 2009 I have to say that I rate town/city space and pirates in a league of their own. They are the staple of Lego and are great in all respects, only getting better over the years. Quote
Algernon Posted February 20, 2009 Posted February 20, 2009 4. (TIE) Agents & Space Police - 8 votes (1 first place votes)es) I object to the terminology here. Space Police is not Space. Quote
HankVenture Posted February 20, 2009 Posted February 20, 2009 (edited) Is it possible that NO ONE has mentioned the Time-Travelers theme?! I checked the first 4 pages and got impatient Top 3 1. City; I have always loved this theme, and the new sets are simply wonderful to build 2. Pirates; Both old and new sets offer unique builds and customs 3. Ice Planet 2000; Their mothership was the one toy I would go back into a fire for, it was an amazing set. Bottom 3 1. SpongeBob; it has been told many posts over, but the design just looks thrown together everytime. 2. Avatar; same reason as above 3. Time Travelers; This theme almost threw me in the dark ages. I never felt much thought went into it. Edited February 20, 2009 by HankVenture Quote
CP5670 Posted February 20, 2009 Posted February 20, 2009 I kind of liked Time Cruisers because of the sheer oddness of the whole thing. It contained stuff from Castle, Pirates, Town and Space all mixed together and many sets had some basic Technic functions as well. At least the concept was very unique and clever. I remember one of the sets had a bunch of helmets from different eras, so the time travellers could fit in wherever they went. Quote
Algernon Posted February 21, 2009 Posted February 21, 2009 (edited) I agree with the above. It was thrown together, but I felt it was intentionally so. The idea was unique and I give it tons of points just for that. It wasn't Space, Town, or Castle, it was just it's own idea and one of the most radical LEGO has ever attempted. Shame we never see this kind of creativity today. Edited February 21, 2009 by Algernon Quote

TC is such a bastardized theme, but that's part of why I like it. what would a time machine look like if someone actually made one? I think it would look like something from this theme Quote
SiRoa Posted February 22, 2009 Posted February 22, 2009 I only have LEGO fantasy era and the mid 90 sets I own when I was a boy (spyrius, paradisa and fright knights).. But here is my choice.. BEST 1. Castle, Fantasy Era.. 2. Technic/Creator : I don't have it but I think I would love this theme.. 3. Pirates/Power Miner/Agents : I like conflict and I think I would love this theme if I have more money I would buy this sets.. WORST 1. Spongebob : even it has 50% discount I won't buy it.. (it reach 20% discount in my country) 2. Batman : it has 50% discount, I don't even look at it.. 3. Exoforce : same as Batman theme I think the worst theme would be decided whether it worth to be owned (maybe wrong grammar here) or not, so my reason is about discount.. Quote
starwarsdk Posted February 22, 2009 Posted February 22, 2009 Hi my vote for the best have to be 1: Star Wars since the theme has endless possibilities. 2: City, lot of playing time in this theme, and lots of different models to build. 3: Space Police looks like a new winner to me The runner ups would have to be, Powerminers, and the old spacestuff My vote for the worst would be: 1: Spongebob 2: Spiderman (only because they fxxked up the theme with bad sets, could have been a great line) 3: Jack Stone Runner ups for this vote would have to be: Scala, Aquaraiders, Rockraiders and ofcourse Exo-force. CP5670 Posted February 22, 2009 Posted February 22, 2009 So much Alpha Team hate... am I the only one who actually liked that theme? I loved the original lineup, with the Dash helicopter probably being the highlight. The Deep Sea and Arctic lines weren't nearly as good though and I never got much into those, although a few of the Ogel subs were nice. Quote
