Posted February 16, 200916 yr LEGO needs to put more baseplates in sets! In the old times, there was one in mostly every set! Now theres not much in sets. A nice new blue base plate in LEGO Pirates would be nice, and a brown baseplate in Indian Jones. What do you think, should LEGO have more baseplates or not?

Well it would be nice I guess, but not necessary. I mean most Lego sets really don’t need a base plate, as they wouldn’t add much to the sets besides just being there. Besides whenever a set does need a base plate (say a building of some sort), one is included. If you are in a tremendous need of base plates I suggest simply buying some off of shop@home.

February 16, 200916 yr Baseplates (especially 3D ones) are briliant, but they are always expensive too... Maybe lego will do Theme Baseplates, sold separately? -Blue and sand for pirates -Streets with some green for City -Grey and Dark grey with holes for Space (I love this one!) -And Green with highs for Castle? And they can be made like new Parrot- Two Collors mixed. It will be cheaper and you will never get the same looking baseplate! :)
February 16, 200916 yr Rather than more baseplates, I want to see full-size 32x32 baseplates on the actual structures. Most city buildings these days only include minimally sized baseplates, just big enough for the structures to stand on. Edited February 16, 200916 yr by CP5670
February 16, 200916 yr I think there's no need for more baseplates in sets. I agree, I really need blue ones...Dr. Brick If you're in urgent need of blue baseplates, phone the customer service and ask them to sell you some. There are several blue 16x32 baseplates in Taj Mahal 10189, which means those blue plates are available through the custormer service. Indeed, it's a pity that the big blue 32x32 plate isn't produced anymore, but the 16x32 baseplate is sufficient provided it remains available.

The old Krusty Krab at keast had a 16x32 tan baseplate for the figs to stand on, but the new version on plates even cuts out the interior floor!
February 16, 200916 yr Yes, more baseplates are imperative! This is why I will be buying the lego board games . I hate competing with my siblings, so I wont play the games, I will play with the Lego
February 16, 200916 yr I don't have anything different to add, but in case a TLG employee is listening (Maybe we should put this in the ambassador forum) I would like to express a sincere desire for more baseplates. They are brilliant for supporting large MOC's, and have been comparatively lacking recent years. Please, bring back the baseplates!
February 16, 200916 yr I agree wholeheartidly, dioramas are very hard to do well, and having to make several layers thick plates of bricks, calling it a baseplate, is hardly satisfying. I would be willing to manage a poll here. jifel
February 17, 200916 yr Author Ya, we should move this to the ambassador forum. Someone please move this?
February 17, 200916 yr I agree, more base plates would even encourage more brick buying. Especially town based plates :) And on the same subject I hope they bring back green road plates and sell straight plates as a separate piece! The number of corners and crossroads in my town is driving me mad hehe! So how about a park plate, or park with pond, or roundabout with building area in middle, or green plate with drive way, or straight road with black and white pedestrian crossing, etc. I'm sure we could think of a hundred 'nice to have' base plates. Maybe they need a custom base plate designer for factory. Upload a bitmap, select with studs are raised/flat and then wait 1 week for the ultimate base plate But a few plates bigger plates in current sets would be a good start.
February 17, 200916 yr Personally I have accumulated enough baseplaes by now but some sets really need baseplates and don't have them. The custom car garage would have been nice with a road plate, but it could do without - but the Medieval Market Village really, really needed a baseplate. It has tons of little bits and pieces that just sit around on the floor now and that would really need somet place to put them on. Personally I'm not a big fan of the 3D baseplates, most of the time they look pretty bad I think, with printed on bricks and other things they could have done without.
February 17, 200916 yr I wouldn't want them to dispense with baseplates entirely, but I think we have a good mix now and that most sets are better off with more bricks/lower price rather than baseplate, or even better, large plates. I'm looking forward to the 8x16 plates in the City Corner set - unusual enough and useful in combination with road plates. I agree that Spongebob example is lame compared to the old one - but it's an extreme example (it does seem especially stingy to use narrow plates under the walls rather than large plates to provide an interior floor).
February 17, 200916 yr I need larger ones for brickfilming. I can't do very far away shots because my baseplates only cover maybe a 40 stud square area. More please, and if possible charge less than $12 for a 32x32 one.
March 8, 200916 yr I never understood why LEGO stopped selling the blue ones. blue green and the large grey. Even if the sets didn't have any, you then still could buy some. The only place I know to buy new blue plates was Amazon when you bought a bundle.

The only place I know to buy new blue plates was Amazon when you bought a bundle. Actually they still produce them in Dacta packs available to teacher stores. In fact, just this past November, I bought a pack that contained a 48x48 bley baseplate, 2 32x32 green, and one 32x32 blue baseplate. It came out at around $50 CAD, although I think that it's definitely worth it.
March 8, 200916 yr I've seen those myself. The bundle is in fact way cheaper than buying the plates in the stores, and I've been wondering if I should purchase a few myself.
March 8, 200916 yr I would really like more baseplates in sets. For example I remember before they put a really cool landscape one in a Old City Coast Guard set

The pack was $50 including tax (Which is 13% here). where as without it, it would be $45.17 without the blue baseplate.
March 8, 200916 yr I also find that they must bring back 32x32 baseplates in sets (althought the last gasstation has one). And blue , tan and maybe white baseplates.
March 8, 200916 yr I would really like more baseplates in sets. For example I remember before they put a really cool landscape one in a Old City Coast Guard set I liked those, but they do have limited uses. I would rather those than nothing, but I do think regular base plates would be better. I also find that they must bring back 32x32 baseplates in sets (althought the last gasstation has one). And blue , tan and maybe white baseplates. I agree, as I only have enough tan, white and blue base plates to make a 32x32 area (In each colour).
March 15, 200915 yr I would really like more baseplates in sets. For example I remember before they put a really cool landscape one in a Old City Coast Guard set I HAVE THAT ONE! Sorry, just went mental, but got a girlfriend, like serious. WHooo! Yeah, I'll be mature again now.
