Matn Posted February 18, 2009 Posted February 18, 2009 When is it coming out? As written in SavaTheAggie's post: late March or early April. ;D Maybe a silly question (I'm not much into Lego trains), but does this train have an engine so it can drive? I don't think it will have an engine, it's no where written. I think it's just a nice model to show off. =P Quote
Morten Posted February 18, 2009 Posted February 18, 2009 It looks like it comes without engine. The engines has 2 set of wheels, with some distance apart, and all the places the train has 2 small wheels besides, the distance is too short. I hope we can fit in an 9 V engine! Another must have. Eilif Posted February 18, 2009 Posted February 18, 2009 Wow! I am super impressed! Great model, Great colors, Great pieces! At first I wasn't sure about the price, then I thought about the price-to-piece ratio of other train sets, and realized it's actually a great deal! $ is tight this year, but this will be a must-buy for sure. Like others, I'm definatley hoping that there will be additional cars available, but I'm not holding my breath. I will definatley be adding additional cars to mine, and even though there is no engine, I can definately work a 9V engine into the tender. Quote
SavaTheAggie Posted February 18, 2009 Posted February 18, 2009 Speaking as an AFOL, not an ambassador, it looks as if there are rubber bands around the drive wheels. That said, there is no purpose for such an addition unless the locomotive was designed to run under its' own internal power. So I would imagine if there is no motor included, this design is meant to be powered by a motor added internal to the locomotive, not the tender. If this turns out to be the case I'm doubly excited. --Tony Quote
Sir von Lego Posted February 18, 2009 Posted February 18, 2009 Hi, thank you so muc for the clear pics and the price!!! It will cost 10€ less than the red crocodile 10183!! So it looks very nice AND is a cheap train set! Quote
legomilk Posted February 18, 2009 Posted February 18, 2009 10194 is now known. but the engine and rails yet. unfortunately this time I have no information about them but there are already some members of the new engine and rails to know. Quote
Lego12 Posted February 18, 2009 Posted February 18, 2009 $100? Yes, I can afford it! This seems like a great set, can't wait for it! Quote
djo Posted February 18, 2009 Posted February 18, 2009 wow, this is awesome. the train is awesome. the news is awesome. thanks SavaTheAggie for the good news and great pictures. can't wait to see this train running on my 9V tracks. so beatiful to dream. Quote
Skipper 24 Posted February 18, 2009 Posted February 18, 2009 This et actually look pretty good. I love the green and the carriage, the detailing is great. However on the front of the engine the 2 black sticking out parts and really doing it for me, all steam engines that I have seen with those on have them extending to the bottom of the boiler. Anyway it looks pretty good to me. Quote
Asuka Posted February 18, 2009 Posted February 18, 2009 I'll say it one more time: I love the set, don't like the doors. Wait a minute... does this mean that you don´t like these working train doors..? Na, seriously, a very interesting set, beautiful detailed with a very great color scheme. The parts´re also interesting for me, especially those brown 1x2 grille bricks and all that lovely tan and dark green! Thanks for this cool information, SavaTheAggie. Quote
Klaus-Dieter Posted February 18, 2009 Posted February 18, 2009 (edited) Thank you very much for this information and the clear pics, Tony! Now 90 Euros is really not cheap. On the other hand we're getting a dining car - and I since a lot of years I have been wishing TLG releasing a dining car (I tried to design one with LDD some weeks ago - but the outcome was ) I think the price is ok! A dining car - ! I must get this set! They don't look like doors. They look like odd hinged walls, or clunky shutters. I've never seen a train with such doors, they are just wrong, IMO. A "cheat," really. The rest of the set is lovely, though. I can't wait to get it. I totally agree with you, Hinckley! I, too, don't understand why TLG didn't use the regular train doors. They would look much better and realistic plus then not that much bricks would be needed! And I miss some doors in teh locomotive. And it's really a pity that they missed to add a coffee machine to the cupboard in the dining car since now it looks a bit . But hey, that's that a  dining car in which even a little cupboard is included! And the main thing is that the dining car includes doors - whether they're better or not that's not that bad. Maybe a silly question (I'm not much into Lego trains), but does this train have an engine so it can drive? Since this awesome train does will cost "only" 90 Euros and since Tony didn't mention something of a motor I think then there will be no motor included in this set. But never mind - if the motor will be very expensive (which I fear) then I will not buy one - you can even look at this train without having a motor it running. And to think there's more but we're saving that for the fan events on March 27 & 28 as mentioned above. Great to hear that! And now that we know that there'll be a lovely dining car included in 10194 it absolutely makes sense to release a or some seperate waggons, too! What about a regular passengar waggon and a sleeping waggon? These would be awesome to add to this brilliant set! Some kind of "serive terminal" where the locomotive can be filled with water, sand and coal would be absolutely necessary and ! I already sold most of my classic SW sets of the years 1999-2002 last Christmas and so got - for my circumstances - a lot of money and now thought that I'll surely have enough money to buy all Lego sets I want this year. But no! Amazing train sets on! Klaus-Dieter Edited February 18, 2009 by Klaus-Dieter Quote
Darth Legolas Posted February 18, 2009 Posted February 18, 2009 Does anyone else notice that this is on the same number line as 10195, the AT-OT and LAAT/C Republic Dropship? Does this mean that maybe Lego is making up a new category of awesome looking must-buy wallet burning sets? I think it does. I'm truly sorry if this has been said before, but I'm too lazy to go back and read through the posts. Quote
highlandcattle Posted February 18, 2009 Posted February 18, 2009 Uh-Oh Must buy! I'll be preordering if possible Quote
brickzone Posted February 18, 2009 Posted February 18, 2009 (edited) Mmmm... I love it. I'm really looking forward to this, the new wheels, the stunning design, the lovely colours (tan windows++). The price is good too at €90 and I'll probably stretch to it despite the current economic circumstances (besides, who knows how safe my money is in the bank). Hinckley, fair enough not liking the doors, but by contrast, they were the second thought I had about nice features of the carriage (the first were the simple feature of the "diamonds"). I find the doors neatly done and quite realistic (we have carriages here in Ireland with old slam-doors that hinge like that - the doors curve slightly around the end of the carriage) and they really stood out to me straightaway as a plus! (Link to Irish train carriage with similar door style) Edited February 18, 2009 by brickzone Quote
Axle Posted February 18, 2009 Posted February 18, 2009 So it's definatley between 90-100 euro in price? I must get this. I want it! WHY WON'T YOU LET ME HAVE IT?! On a serious note, will it use the Power Functions from other sets as a power source? Thank ye Mr. Ambassador for the pictures! Quote
Eilif Posted February 18, 2009 Posted February 18, 2009 A couple of questions for those in the know... 1) Are these actuall Big-Ben Wheels, and/or did BBB have any involvement in their development? 2) Are there any tracks included in this set? I realize that these questions will probably be answered at the March events, but I thought I'd throw them out there in case anyone had any inside information. Quote
Mirandir Posted February 18, 2009 Posted February 18, 2009 Does anyone else notice that this is on the same number line as 10195, the AT-OT and LAAT/C Republic Dropship? Does this mean that maybe Lego is making up a new category of awesome looking must-buy wallet burning sets? I think it does. They have already come up with such a line. It's called: "The-five-digit-set-number line". Quote
gladiator Posted February 18, 2009 Posted February 18, 2009 They have already come up with such a line. It's called: "The-five-digit-set-number line". Thanks God, You hear my pray. IT's real ! I am slightly disappointing, no engine inside. Firstly, I think based on railbricks vol.5, maybe power function system will add in the new train, and 10194 is the serious candidate. But, whether it used engine or not, 100% I will buy. Fantastic design, no doubt Quote
SavaTheAggie Posted February 18, 2009 Posted February 18, 2009 I can't say whether or not these were made in conjunction with Big Ben Bricks, because I simply don't know, but I can tell you that these are NOT BBB wheels, at least not that are currently available. Look at the pictures, you can see that the drive wheels have balance weights (the crescent shaped "solid" section that steam engine wheels have in their spokes) whereas BBB wheels do not. --Tony Quote
Siegfried Posted February 18, 2009 Posted February 18, 2009 Thanks for the great pics SavaTheAggie! In response to Sinner asking we my I posted the info twice... Well, I am sorry I did but with all the excitement about Emerald Night, I wanted to make sure that most the members will know the good news. Sorry if it did offend you. You didn't offend me, I'm just trying to keep the forum organised. Multiple topics about a single un-released set is confusing. Does anyone else notice that this is on the same number line as 10195, the AT-OT and LAAT/C Republic Dropship? Does this mean that maybe Lego is making up a new category of awesome looking must-buy wallet burning sets? I think it does. They aren't new. 1xxxx numbers are used for S@H "exclusives". I think the first was in 2001 with thr Legend re-release of Gaurded Inn. (2xxxx numbers seem to be used for Brickmaster sets.) Quote
Staszek Posted February 18, 2009 Posted February 18, 2009 Check Lego Shop. Emerald Night is listed under new category -Engines. There are more pictures and zoom function to look closer at main picture. http://shop.lego.com/ByTheme/Leaf.aspx?cn=419&d=328 Quote
brickzone Posted February 18, 2009 Posted February 18, 2009 (edited) €101.99 on S@H for Ireland £68.50 for UK on the other hand is flabbergasting (even with euro down a bit again against £). The proper Lego pictures are very nice indeed though - worth zooming in on a lot of the detail. Edited February 18, 2009 by brickzone Quote
Pierre_Cochereau Posted February 18, 2009 Posted February 18, 2009 And to think there’s more………but we’re saving that for the fan events on March 27 & 28 as mentioned above. It's probably speculation on my part, and I don't mean to drag this discussion off-topic ... but when I read "more," I couldn't help but thinking that March 27 & 28 could also be the time when the "new" PF tracks will be presented to the public. Now, when they say "more," could that mean that with the all-new PF system, we get features that were part of the amazing 12V series in the 1980s , such as RC points, RC signals, RC level crossings ... wouldn't that be exciting? Or am I just dreaming? Quote
eti Posted February 18, 2009 Posted February 18, 2009 On the Lego site when you zoom in , those bricks with letters (stickers I think?) seem to be entirely colored in by hand with a magic marker? Are those preliminary pictures or what's up? Also, what color green will it be, dark green? Quote
Siegfried Posted February 18, 2009 Posted February 18, 2009 It's AUD 149.99! It would seem it's not motorised (or even convertable) as the on-line blub makes no mention of it... unless they are going to do an update later. Quote
