Still says April 15th on Shop@home UK. Hopefully we'll be able to preorder nearer the release date, then maybe it'll arrive in time for my birthday

It's back to 15th again for Ireland on S@H - it had been 30th for the last day or two.

Same for Germany. Now this is weird!

Better this way than the other way round.

That new PF controller looks great. Aside from trains, it will also be very useful for Technic models. It seems to do everything that the current PF remote does but allows for variable speed settings.

I doubt if the battery box can even sustain 9V. Normally rechargable batteries converge to a slightly lower voltage.

I think the 9V trains might actually run at more than 9V at the highest speed regulator setting. This is something I've noticed with all of the wall powered sources in the Lego 9V system, including the RCX and Control Center. They run motors faster than battery boxes even on a fresh set of batteries.

Was at my local Lego store (Munich) today and picket up the new train 10194 from Lego.

the new flex-tracks and further information to other accessories for this set was not available. :(

Lucky you! :cry_happy:

What about a review?

Envy ON!

Why haven't you posted a review yet??:knight:

It's a pity for many of us that is set has been available in stores before the S@H... :cry_sad:

This topic is moved and merged to here. Please continue the discussion in here. Thanks.

Why is that a pity?

I'm guessing it's because of the lack of a local LEGO stores...

Are they allowed to sell the set before S@H releases it?

Are they allowed to sell the set before S@H releases it?

I guess so, since this is far from the first time this happens.

Why is that a pity?

Because I feel jalous

Seriously, I thought it was easier for Lego to make a new set available on the S@H prior to "physical" stores (for stock management & dispatching reasons), so I was surprised to discover that this set had been released in German stores first.

just called lego and they say that emerald night will be avaliable to order from 15 april not any time before.

sorry if you thought you could.

Well, that's what it says on the website anyway, no need to call if you'd ask me. Nobody thought he could order it beforehand, it is just that the set seemed to have turned up in Munich already, in the Legobrand store.

On brickset people are discussing the catalogue scans of a member. They show the remaining PF train stuff including their prices in British pounds. Especially the battery box is pretty expensive. Click here and click on the pic to make it larger.

Now this is just stupid. And 7,4V? Why not 9V?

I'd say. To get your Emerald Night running with lights you'd need all those sets, adding up to about 94 pounds, which is about 100 euros. If the pound rate was usual (it's phenomenally cheap now), it'd be more like 130 euros.

Ok, if you already have the remote and the transformer, the price is "only" 70 euros per train. Still, a 9V train got moving at about half of that price (3748 + 10153), although cheaper track compensates in the long run.

I'll pick up the Emerald Night once it's available, but I sure as heck won't cough up another 100 euros just to get it going.

I suppose they'll have to release a playset like 4511 or 7897 that'll include not only all the things you need to get a train moving but also a freaking train and some tracks, preferably with a price tag of about 100e. That'd make sense pricewise. After all, the IR control is a system for kids.

EDIT: Another scanned page. Oh, ok. 80 pounds will get you all the electric stuff in one pack.

Thank you for the link, ltf!

The battery box seems to be very expensive indeed, it´s going to be around 60€! :oh3::hmpf_bad:

All in all you will end up with more than 100€ (89 pounds) to motorize the train. My oh my. :hmpf:

Dear Osakana,

normal unrechargeable AA batteries are only initially 1.5V, verry quickly the voltage will drop.

That is why you can replace them with rechargeable 1.2V AA batteries.

Normally in a battery box of Lego (like in the technic sets) you can put 6 AA batteries, amounding to 6x1.5 = 9V.

But this 9 Volt is only initially! :classic:

The combined batteries will verry quickly converge to around 7.2 Volt, and stay there untill the batteries are empty.

That is why you can also put 6 rechargeable AA batteries in the battery box, amounding to 6x1.2 = 7.2V.

Now if we replace the entire 6 AA box by a single box. It is reasonable to expect at least 7.2V of a rechargeable battery.

Lego provided us with 7.4V so that is more than sufficient. :classic:

Kind regards,

Teddy

You shouldn't try to convert the cost from pounds to euros using the currency rates. It will indeed cost about 130-150 euros.

I really really hope NOT, because a train set with track and full motorizing PF equipment will not cost less than 250euros. Those people who do NOT want to buy the PF equipment but still want the train will be SOL. I think it's best for everyone that from now on every train set comes without motors by default.

Thank you for the link, ltf!

Dear Holodoc,

I'm not sure if Lego will use the old exchange rate for the battery box.

But good quality rechargeable batteries are expensive.

For example 6 good AA 2700mAh (this mAh number is the most important part! Indirectly gives the lifetime of the batterie with a single charge. The higher the mAh the better)

NiMH batteries will cost you about 6x5Euro=30Euro.

And that would be only to put relatively "long-life" rechargeble batteries in the current Technic sets.

If i'm not mistaken the technologie in the Lego battery is slightly more advanced than that of the

NiMH batteries. And therefore slightly more expensive. So the battery alone will cost 30+ Euro in any shop.

So My guess is the cost for Lego is around 15+ Euro per batterie unit.

The other cost will be the recharge circtuit and the container box and Legos profits.

So all in all, changing the train tracks to batteries will be verry expensive for Lego fans even if we could build something costum made.

Kind regards,

Teddy

Haa, lis suomalaisia! :classic:

I didn't notice you were! Well in that case, as lucky as we are, you (and me) should expect that to cost at least 300e, if it costs 250e in the rest of europe :hmpf_bad:

Have you noticed how nicely inflated are S&H prices for Finland alone? Emerald Night for 109e (it's 89e for almost everyone else), and the new big SW set (dropship + AT-whatever) for 320e instead of 250e. TLG either hates us, or think we're all rich :classic:

Sure I have, but it's also 102e for Ireland and 101e for Sweden. Overseas shipping bonus?
