What about the Native Americans sets? Those were my favourites.

Anyway, Fort Legoredo is my favourite out of them, and yes, I do own some (Native Americans) and I would like to see them again. As you can tell, I'm more of a fan of the 'Indians' than the Cowboys.

Bandits' Secret Hideout.

So many figs mixed between bad guys and soldiers

Also the set has many playfeatures - but that goes for all the Western sets.

I just love rolling barrels, things that drop and exploding waggons/walls.

A great theme that deserves to revived.

When I had my collection on show at LEGOWorld 2009 in Copenhagen I saw/heard lots of children who were really exited about the Western sets.

Gold City Junction, definitely! I think it's the most complete western set with an amazing playability: you can really do a western movie just with this one  . I still remember my happinees when I had it for christmas! :cry_happy:

I used to have Gold City Junction, but that was a long time ago. It was my favorite. I would like to see LEGO re-release the Wild West/Western theme, or at the very least, a revival, similar to LEGO's new Pirates theme.

Tough choice KD - and a great poll too. Thanks for the kind words. It's nice to see that you're still into the WW theme, although I don't think you traveled too far out of Legoredo.

I have two favorites, and they are Gold City Junction and Bandit's Secret Hideout. Both sets are particularly nice, but I think I like Gold City just a slight bit better because of the rarity of the pieces, and what you get in the ovreall set (two buildings - the general store with green door and windows, a great armored wagon, two black fence pieces, and a lot of extras).

I love the mine as well, because I've always been fascinated with old Western mines.

In any case, I think it's Gold City for me followed closely by the mine.

Thank you very much for your many votes and comments so far! :sweet:

I didn't anticipate such a big interest in Western!

Please be patient, Shoc, I already decided to make a topic with your "Favourite Indian set?" - but I wanted to have Western and Indians in two seperate topics.

I totally agree with you, KimT!

There were so many action elements included in these great Western sets that I really didn't - and still don't - understand why TLG didn't continue this theme since AFOLs as well as JFOLs surely like(d) these awesome sets!

But - like you mentioned with a lot kids looking very excited at those lovely sets - kids really like everything which has to do with Cowboys and Indians. Perhaps Western is even more in demand at JFOLs than Pirates - or at least like Pirates. So I really, really don't understand why TLG seems not to plan to release a new Western theme since they are always saying that JFOLs are their main audience (which does really not mean that AFOLs would not like a new Western theme - in contrary: with this poll you can see that they really would! ).

Gold City Junction is my favourite Western set, too, although I must say that I really, really  all Western sets! It really includes that much playability, minifigs, horses, great buildings (apart from that they are regrettably all only one floor big) and accessory!

I would like to see LEGO re-release the Wild West/Western theme, or at the very least, a revival, similar to LEGO's new Pirates theme.

I think that re-releasing the old sets doesn't make much sense, Justin - like you saw with the re-releases in 2002.

Reasons:

1. The most Western-interested AFOLs already have the old sets and so don't need the same sets again.

2. The market on Ebay is too big so that parents prefer to buy the old versions used instead of buying only re-released old versions in toy shops.

But imo the solution for JFOLs to get introduced in this great theme and for AFOLs wanting to get some new sets, too, is to release some new sets which contain many elements of the older versions (e. g. a Sheriff's office and a bank would be a must mainly from a JFOL's point of view who doesn't own the old sets) but even some new elements (e. g. a saloon mainly for AFOLs which already own the old sets and so want to get some new and additional elements). Plus threre are elements which were unluckily missed by TLG in the old theme and which surely would be in high demand at AFOLs as well as at JFOLs: e. g. a stage coach and a Western train with train station. Plus - with TLG's fantasy area taking place in the new "Castle" theme - there are many possibilities for a Ghost Town subtheme.

Mainly for somebody who doesn't own any Western sets yet - or only very few - a set similar to Gold City Junction would be a perfect set to get introduced in this brilliant theme!

OK, sorry, I wasn't being impatient. I just thought of Indians being part of the Western theme, which I guess they are. I'll be sure to check out your other topic.

There's nothing you have to be sorry about since you could not have known that I'll plan to make a topic similar to this one for Indian sets, too. :classic:

I personally think that it makes sense to make a difference between the "Western" sets and the Indians sets. Of course Indians belong to the Wild West as much as cowboys belong to the Wild West - that's absolutely right. But I wanted to create two different polls since it is always said that the Indian sets (which were released one year after the most of the Western sets) didn't sell very well - and that this was very supposably the reason for why TLG regrettably stopped releasing Western sets (here meant as Western and Indian sets).

i really like 6712 Sheriff's Showdown as it's small and affordable yet offers great playability with bandit, sheriff and a horse.

I totally agree with you, ditto!

Which makes a theme a really brilliant theme is a mixture of sets of different sizes: The really big sets (which include a lot of playability, awesome vehicles and great architectual buildings), the medium sized sets (which include a lot of playability, too, but perhaps not that many buildings and vehicles) and the small sets and Impulse sets (which include a lot of minifigs for adding more life to your layout, for collecting many minifigs, for buildings whole armies and simply for having some cheap sets).

Well I only own Fort Legorado which I found at the back of a shelf in a small toy shop a while back, but I always remember dreaming of having Gold City Junctio. I mean that set has everything, although I still  Legorado!!

The best set is Fort LEGOREDO without doubt. The original of course.

I don't own a single set unfortunately. But it's still one of my favorite themes. Maybe because I played a lot with the sets of my cousin.

I don't kno if I would buy a set if LEGO would re-release the theme. It depends on the sets. I don't like the new Pirates theme, howevr the idea of re-releasing the theme looked great.

6712 Sheriff's Showdown

This was my first western set ever. It is great. The set is

basic and cool to play, much easy to build + great minifigs:

Sheriff and Bandit.

I doubt I will be the last person to say Fort Legorado, gotta stick with the classics. Also it had a nice assortment of minifigs. Come on TLC bring back Western!

I partly agree with you, Richie.

I, too, fear that if TLG releases a new WW theme they will take the old sets as model and only change some little things but then release the new sets (like the new Pirates sets (apart from the big pirate ship which is excellent)) with much less minifigs, much less accessory and only a very cheap architecture with very little buildings. And that would be really a shame since this would - at least for these under us who already own a lot of the old sets - absolutely bad! :cry_sad:

But like you can see in with all the amazing new sets in the City theme which are some sort of re-designs of the classic Town sets, some new re-designed sets can be either be flop or top.

6755/6764 Sheriff's Lock-Up

One of the top three Lego sets of all time in my opinion. Brilliant set, playable, buildable, completely original (at the time), stocked with figs, and ultimately inspiring (like all great Lego sets). But the Western theme does give a wealth of choice. The sets were so great that it was the first time I ever bought a duplicate set...

God Bless,

Nathan

and Commiserations to the Bandit's Hideout-if it had only been a slightly bigger set with one more run of track, a "great escape" style movie set sticking off the back would have made it unbeatable. A competitive nod to Legoredo as well...

Yesterday I was at the carnival parade in my hometown. And there was a carriage with a tipi and some Indians dancing around it and a lot of little kids were cowboy hats (and some even a whole cowboy outfit although it was snowing all the time  ). So TLG can really not claim that kids aren’t interested in Wild West! :hmpf:

should I choose the Fort of Gold City Juntion.................

:sceptic: Its very difficult tot choose these two. Or should it be the bandit hideout?

The problem is I really like al these sets (do own them to, lucky me :cry_happy: )

But if you point a Colt at my face and say I really have to choose it would be The fort.

All the sets have great playabilitys and all the sets have great parts. But the reason i Love the fort is because you can put the 4 pieces of the fort in diffferent ways. That way its always in perfect position. besides that i just love the soldiers and this set comes with six of them.

6755/6764 Sheriff's Lock-Up

Glad to hear a shout-out to the lockup. The playability of that set was wonderful!

That said, I had to vote for Gold City Junction because it really feels like the "main" set and is VERY thorough with two buildings (with playable features), the wagon, bandits, horses, etc. It has the most play value, I feel. I never actually owned that set but my friend did! I only had the Sheriff's Lockup and the Weapons Wagon.

Still, like I said, the Lockup is a pretty essential piece. It works especially well with Gold City Junction; just put it right on the boardwalk!
