R2F Posted July 18, 2011 Posted July 18, 2011 I've been sorting my Lego's just recently by adding a brick to the same brick color and the same brick and then putting back into the 2x2 or whatever pile.(If that doesn't make sense I'll post pics if I have to). So do any of you guys have any special way to sort your Lego's? Or just a simple way? Quote

So do any of you guys have any special way to sort your Lego's? Or just a simple way? I tried for a while to have blocks of bricks put together to both save room and help me count (I'd have stacks of 5 or 10), but I've since decided not to do it that way and actively have taken them apart. I've seen too many stories recently of people complaining of cracked bricks from remaining under stress, and it just prompted me to sort better and get more storage. Quote
Zeya Posted July 20, 2011 Posted July 20, 2011 I keep my bricks stacked to save on space. I asked around about warping, clutch power, and other damage but didn't hear any troubling responses. I figure that people report models and mocs kept together for decades without damage, so I don't think theres any real fear of damage storing stacked bricks. Damage aside, I like keeping things stacked for storage. It almost eliminates time consuming rummaging when you go to build. And the bricks take up less space. Quote
Follows Closely Posted July 20, 2011 Posted July 20, 2011 (edited) ... How many pcs/complete sets do you have? I have close to 70K of light bley bricks. But all together, if I had to guess, I would say around 450K. That picture is about 1/3 of our collection, the rest is not yet sorted, or is sorted and stored by set. We have drawn the line now, no more massive used lots from Craigslist and such. Enough is enough. For now. Edited July 20, 2011 by Follows Closely Quote

ziljin Posted July 24, 2011 Posted July 24, 2011 In case anyone wants to look at my pictures of my boxes with lego in it. I have so many boxes of them, some are organized, some are not. Quote
FuzzyBallz Posted July 26, 2011 Posted July 26, 2011 I'm not really into MOCs, so I just put all the LEGO pieces in freezer bags when I dissemble the sets. Quote
gtg905s Posted July 27, 2011 Posted July 27, 2011 +1 for Plano boxes! The 3730, 3731, 3700 and 3701 makes life very easy to keep the maximum Lego in my closet and has locks to secure the lids ;-) Quote
Follows Closely Posted July 29, 2011 Posted July 29, 2011 ... blah ... blah ... I have found that four is the limit to stacking sterilite containers before the draws start to buckel. So my solution is in the works. I plan on finishing this project in three days, so stay tuned. Quote

I assume from that that you're modifying shelves rather than building from scratch? Rotate your monitor 90°. The slight 1 inch gap on the top of the middle row is for another piece of wood to be placed between the drawers if need be. I am building them from start to finish out of stain ready pine panels. I usually start with rough lumber and plane them down, but these are more utilitarian than a masterpiece. Edited July 29, 2011 by Follows Closely Quote

Darkdragon Posted July 29, 2011 Posted July 29, 2011 that looks really slick. I think each shelf unit should be a different bright Lego color ;) Quote

Brickdoctor Posted July 31, 2011 Posted July 31, 2011 Very nice work with the new shelves. The sets look better displayed on multiple levels than all on top of the drawer stacks. What are the round things on the bottom-right shelf? Canisters? Quote

Brickdoctor Posted July 31, 2011 Posted July 31, 2011 Peanut butter containers. Ah. So with all those drawers, what is it that gets stored in the peanut butter jars? Quote

The before and after: *snip* Very sweet set-up! Nicely done. Very professional looking. Peanut butter containers. Ha! I use those, too. Actually, at the moment, those have become my MOST USED storage tool. I really need to get to sorting. Sheesh. I have three 189L Rubbermaid totes that need to be parted out. I'm dreading it. Quote
