David Thomsen Posted October 24, 2010 Posted October 24, 2010 Now I feel really old at 21 >_< I'm 28, which I think is about in the middle of the age spectrum for adult Lego fans... I second the recommendation for the Imperial Flagship. Sometimes I think it's better to buy one $300 16+ set a year than lots of smaller 4-12 ones. I'm usually over smaller sets shortly after I get them, especially when I get so many, but I'm still in love with the Imperial Flagship.
Legoman Posted October 24, 2010 Author Posted October 24, 2010 G'day Toye More Kiwi's is always nice around here I'm also 16, but as other's have stated, age doesn't really matter, and if it did, well you're still young compred to some of the older folks around here That's a nice haul you've got yoursef there. I do agree with David though, You won't regret buying some of the bigger sets - the are usually worth it. If you see the Medieval Market Vllage anywhere, Make sure you buy it. You'll never regret it. One of the best sets ever made, if you're lucky enough to still find it availible - It's great Vaulue too at only $200 Welcome to the forums and I hope to see you 'round!

One of the best sets ever made, if you're lucky enough to still find it availible - It's great Vaulue too at only $200 I noticed that the medieval one was really good value per piece ($99 US for 1600 pieces if almost unheard of) - went onto trademe and noticed that they go for $300 - robbery! I'm considering importing a set from the US. Even with ridiculous shipping charges it'd still be over $100 cheaper.
CommanderFox Posted October 25, 2010 Posted October 25, 2010 Welcome to EB Toye! Nice to have a fellow Aucklander here to! Now I think we number 4 or 5! I agree with the others, its worth getting an occasional big set, like David said, it takes a while to get over them. You could try getting some of the sets you want from Bricklink, Ebay (though i'd probably advise against it, some members have had bad trade's with ebay), Amazon. Enjoy the forums and see you round here. CF
CommanderFox Posted October 27, 2010 Posted October 27, 2010 Huge toy sale on Fishpond!!! The wampa cave is dirt cheap Legoman! Only $70! And it's free shipping! And the new 8129 AT-AT is $339! Some other sets are on sale, but these seemed the best deals! Im so tempted with the wampa cave! CF

Often it's listed above RRP and the apparent discount is artificial - i.e the AT-AT retails at $229. Plus they don't really hold stock, but rather a front for wholesalers. I've also heard of people ordering things that are actually a good deal, only to find later the item is unavailable. In short, I think the site is hopeless and with sites like The Book Depository around I don't expect Fishpond to last much longer. About my previous Lego direct posting: I'm still not sure if it works in NZ as I haven't received replies to my messages or emails. However it's great if you've got relatives in Europe

Toye Posted October 27, 2010 Posted October 27, 2010 There are some prices below RRP for lego on fishpond but overall its horribly overpriced. $350 for Brickbeard's bounty holy crap!
David Thomsen Posted October 27, 2010 Posted October 27, 2010 There are some prices below RRP for lego on fishpond but overall its horribly overpriced. I calculated that their full price for one item, minus the 'discount' and with 'free shipping', is actually the same as buying it full priced and being charged for shipping. Frankly, if I'm going to buy something for full price and with shipping, I'm going to do it somewhere where they don't try to fool me into thinking I'm doing otherwise.

They make it look fairly reasonable most of the time, but it's really a joke. $330 for the AT-AT? Far out, that's totally mis-leading, saying that that's RRP? That's totally mis-leading and wrong IMO They really need to get that site on track before it falls apart. Has anyone ever actully ended up with a good deal from them?
CommanderFox Posted October 28, 2010 Posted October 28, 2010 (edited) Has anyone ever actully ended up with a good deal from them? Yup, I bought some of the star wars republic commando books by Karen Traviss and it was good. I guess you guys are right, won't be look there anymore. CF Edited October 28, 2010 by CommanderFox

Ravi Posted October 28, 2010 Posted October 28, 2010 Hi Guys. Just wondering has anyone seen the technic mobile crane or the excavator Thanks
epic_red Posted October 28, 2010 Posted October 28, 2010 (edited) Hello! I've just joined EB but have been looking at this forum for ages I like City and some of the licensed themes but have a mixed collection and I live in CHCH. Edited October 28, 2010 by epic_red
vmln8r Posted October 28, 2010 Posted October 28, 2010 Hi Guys. Just wondering has anyone seen the technic mobile crane or the excavator Thanks Long time no see. The crane is $200 at TW and from memory the excavator is $330 at Moore Wilsons.
kiwishark Posted October 28, 2010 Posted October 28, 2010 Yeah my dad's had a few good book buy's there too, but I was refering to the Lego I got the Battle of Alamut from Fishpond for $109 not long after it came out, still haven't seen it that cheap anywhere else-though that might happen in the near future. Came through the post right as rain. Having said that, I have to agree that most of the time their pricing is, shall we say, "creative"? Having said THAT I noticed that they had the Kingdoms castle for $149 earlier today, which isn't too bad really,I think it's been about $199 everywhere I've seen it. So that's about 25% off....I suppose there's a good deal every now and then.

Depends what you like really and their price. There are some nice new trains out(Emerald Night, Hogwarts Express, Passenger and Cargo), but they are expensive. If price is an issue, I a link a 20% off voucher for TW http://www.toyworld.co.nz/twentypercentoff.html which is useful and as far as I know doesn't expire because the date changes daily to one month from the current date. What are you into? Edited October 30, 2010 by epic_red
