CommanderFox Posted March 18, 2011 Posted March 18, 2011 The Creator Truck 3-in-1 6753 is $110, which is pretty good deal for nearly 1300 parts, but I bet that Farmers clearanced it lower in the end (although I've missed it - sold out in our Farmers). Space Police was also nearly 50% off, but they only had 5983 (sorry, I can't recall the price). They also had a Star Wars 3-in-1 Super Pack for $80: Freeco Speeder with the 2011 battle packs, but they also had plenty 8085, which defeats the purpose in a way. Then again they did not have any 2011 battle packs only the 2010 Hoth packs. There will also be a Genosis Super Pack which is certainly more promising... http://www.bricklink.com/catalogItemPic.asp?S=66378-1 Geonosis 3in1 pack?! Sounds great! Maybe we will get a better value for price option then Kmarts horrid price. That Freeco/BP superpack is new for me, haven't seen it before. Man, I really have to get to warehouse. Has anyone seen any solitary Harry Potter sets in there red shed stores? CF
RileyC Posted March 18, 2011 Posted March 18, 2011 Has anyone seen any solitary Harry Potter sets in there red shed stores? Oh! The other day I did see the dobby HP set in Toyworld. I didnt have any money one me so I rushed back home to get some but it went. I dont know what I wouldve done with it though. I couldve put it on TM or sold it to one of you guys or kept it. So maybe seeing if Toyworld can import one or something might be the way to go CF
nzkiwiman Posted March 19, 2011 Posted March 19, 2011 Saw that 3in1 pack at the two Warehouses in Dunedin I looked at today - $80 Also Toyworld Dunedin had 7868 Mace Windu's Jedi Starfighter for $65 (assuming retail is $60). Local Warehouse's have nothing left to clearance which is annoyiong.

Still need to check my local one but haven't passed it yet, has anyone cleared out the Albany warehouse??.....not sure if I want to know the answer. CF
harmacy Posted March 21, 2011 Posted March 21, 2011 Just noticed that the Maersk train pricing is finally on Lego.com for NZD$199.00. If you do a direct currency conversion from the USD$119. price, it works out at $166 NZD. Not too bad really - we've been beaten up more in the past with rubbish currency conversions. May wait to see what pops up on BL in the weeks following April 1 - wouldn't surprise me if people split up the engine / rolling stock:)
vmln8r Posted March 21, 2011 Posted March 21, 2011 Oh man! $150 is stupid! Just as Im getting into trains too! I just checked on BL, and prices start from $63NZD. Sorry Lego.com, but Im going down the BL path for these now. So, did you end up buying any 8878s? At the Kapiti TW I was told they'd ordered them previously - so I emailed the owner eight days ago but haven't heard back. I have done the same at the Wellington CBD store. When I'm able to I'll ring both of them to see what's up. But, if either of those don't eventuate, is anyone else interested in a group buy from BL?

Hey - No I didnt buy any 8878's - I have moved towns, so all my trains are still packed away - so really havent given it too much thought. Im considering my track options though - may switch over to 9v to solve all the motor / powerpack issues in one easy wall powered solution. The maersk would be cool with a 9V too. Im also very keen to see what THIS is all about too.... (or THAT) Kapiti TW have got 10 Maersks on order from Lego (and some other cool models too such as the tower bridge and Imperial shuttle) - I know the owner quite well, and have an hold for 1 of the kits he gets in. I figure it might be a good set to get multiples of, so will look to BL for another engine and / or stock.
CommanderFox Posted March 22, 2011 Posted March 22, 2011 Farmers have 30% off toys on Thursday only Yus! I just wish they would also have the battle of geonosis. I might get another Battle Pack I think. CF

I'm persoanlly thinking of another few Naboo sets. Have absolutely no regret of the last 4. Any other good buys? CommanderFox Posted March 23, 2011 Posted March 23, 2011 Heck if only they had the 10212 Shuttle at 30% off.. I'd snap that up very fast! I think we all would! CF
Nikkiwi Posted March 24, 2011 Posted March 24, 2011 Hey, thanks for the heads up on the 30% Farmers sale! I'd have missed out on picking up the log cabin for a very good price if it hadn't been for you guys.... :) Anyone else get a bargain? Cheers Nick
Fatteh Posted March 24, 2011 Posted March 24, 2011 Hey all I scanned through some of this thread, but couldn't see any mention of this: Have other people noticed that the Warehouse occasionally heavily discounts lego sets without any indication? Usually for just a day or two. The discounts are sometimes visible on the website, but not marked as such. I've found the largest SP3 sets for $60 and recently picked up the TIE defender for $29. Is this common knowledge amongst NZ lego fans?
vmln8r Posted March 24, 2011 Posted March 24, 2011 Is this common knowledge amongst NZ lego fans? I have noticed it - for instance last year Brickbeard's Bounty was only advertised in their catalogue as $30 (from $90?), not in store. Similarly last week I bought two Zurgs for 75% off - which the casual customer would not know about. To summarise - use the price scanner
Fatteh Posted March 24, 2011 Posted March 24, 2011 To summarise - use the price scanner Well I certainly didn't find out the TIE Defender was going cheap by trying to buy it for the $99 label price.

Is this common knowledge amongst NZ lego fans? It's somewhat common knowledge, but they're not the only ones. K-mart also does the same thing, When they want to clear stock, they put it insanely cheap. All about having constant turn-over - When they want/get in fresh stock, they clear the older stuff Generally, It's not just for a day or two, it's until they're gone. Quite a common practice for department stores, I've seen various sets on clearance at Farmers too. I guess the reason they don't get overly mentioned is because they sell out so fast, it's really just being at the right place at the right time. Definately some real steals to be had sometimes though Saw the SPIII set cheap at my local warehouse but K-mart already had it cheaper still, and it's not really a set I like, Not even the parts are good IMO. Well done on the Tie, $29 is a steal on one of those, I paid $45 for mine, and even that was good considering it's a $110 Star Wars set
kiwishark Posted March 25, 2011 Posted March 25, 2011 Gidday. I've scanned back to the beginning of March and can't see anything, so just to mention... Thought I would take a look at Farmers Albany for the 30% sale Thursday, seriously tempted by the City of Atlantis temple, but only got some Cars for my boy. Kmart has the space sets 3365 3366 3367 and 3368. Can't remember any prices though, maybe $129 for 3368. Haven't seen them anywhere else yet.
Trainee Posted March 25, 2011 Posted March 25, 2011 Hi NZ'ers, I only joined EB a week or so ago but thanking I did. I managed to score 3x Darth Vader's TIE Fighter 8017 for $30 each, these were on clearance in our local Warehouse a few weeks ago . I was in there last weekend and saw the Space Police Lunar Limo for $35 and the Space Police Undercover Cruiser for $30 and there were quite a few of them. Unfortunately with house reno's and a new born coming in 2 months I couldn't warrant buying any. I have only just got back into Lego about a year ago after taking my son to a (think Hornby) model train expo, only to find a huge Lego train layout sitting at the back of the room. Since them I have been Lego mad lol. In this time I have only managed to pick up a few sets of Lego and only buy 2nd hand or clearance stuff to keep the money down and the wife happy lol. Well it's awesome to find more Kiwi's on here and I hope to participate in some of the discussions. P.S. Any of you used Bricklink to get stuff? I'm thinking of ordering a few bits and pieces but looking to gather some word-of-mouth so to speak about it all before diving in and getting burned.

Definately some real steals to be had sometimes though This is why I find the Warehouse's pricing activity interesting. The TIE scanned at $29 for two days only. Then it went back up to over $50. I've found similar very short term sales on their sets by scanning and there is no indication anywhere I can find that they are discounted. Such a tactic doesn't really fit with the goal of moving stock as quickly as possible. Their shelves are packed with BPs and midi sets which haven't been similarly discounted as far as I've seen. Perhaps it's a sort of covert loss-leader to give customers a pleasant surprise at the checkout and a reason to return. Whatever the rationale, it works for me.
Grrr Posted March 25, 2011 Posted March 25, 2011 There used to be a particular Kmart in Auckland which would occasionally mark sets down to 10% of their value - as it turns out a dodgy staff member had a lego collector friend. I remember buying 6462 for 5 bucks for example. Pity it doesn't happen any more.

Wow, we seem to have gotten a big load of new NZ members! Welcome aboard guys! Hope you enjoy the forums and particularly this topic, its us NZers little 'home' here. @Trainee, yeah, the majority here do BL orders every now and again, its a great way to get parts you need for mocs, or figs-sets-instruction ect. You can sometimes get some nice parts on TradeMe but not often. But yeah, I'd recommend getting an account with BL and doing an order. If the parts you need are in one of the NZ stores, Gelo in particular (who has the biggest range of parts), then you can do regular bank transfer , paypal is what most worldwide stores accept. Hope that helps! CF Edited March 25, 2011 by CommanderFox

Cheers Paul For starters one of the shops I'm looking to buy my first lot of bits from is in Germany of all places, I already have an account with BL and also one for Paypal (ebay buying). The store I'm looking into is quite big and has great feedback, is this going to be like TradeMe and you can pretty much go off of the feedback to see how a seller is going to be ? Has anyone Bought from over sea's and can comment on the packaging and postage times they have experienced ect ? My first order is only going to be about $40 all up depending on what the postage is going to change to. I think our currency exchange at the moment is quite good for buying oversea's too. Edit: Just looking at Gelo's store, is it a good idea to contact the store your looking at to make sure they have the item's in stock before ordering or can you go off of what it is showing ?
