RileyC Posted July 14, 2009 Posted July 14, 2009 Also, chzeck this Shizit out It's my cloud city battle scene I made today.. Yea it looks great but Luke's pants and torso are wrong. However its ok because the correct clothing has only been in the cloud city set and that is so expensive now you could probably buy all the pieces for less
Dragonator Posted July 14, 2009 Posted July 14, 2009 Yeah that's probably Robocup. Check it out if you likeHere Ah RoboCup, now that brings back memories. I remember competing in the 2005 games and winning the National Dance section, that was fun. I got a medal and everything! The two years following that though the best I could manage was second. I tell you, it was sabotage in 2006, sabotage!

We won soccer, and came secound in rescue (if a remember correctly)... And it was another folk from CHCH that won dance... I still know him Then last year i failed miserably... Still got to nationals though.... Hoping to go this year too. I must say, the compitition has changed. The new soccer and rescue are... intresting. You should come back and do it! You still have... about 20 days and your still legible to participate.

KnightlyKnight Posted July 14, 2009 Posted July 14, 2009 just got 2 seconds to put in my 2 cents in to the recent topics. Trademe: Don't forget that when the DS first went up on S@H it was only $430 NZD. I wouldn't be surprised if there were a few floating around for later sale and the ones recently could be an example. 7283 - USB: I'm pretty sure K-mart had Ultimate space battle once when I was in there way back in the day. I think it was either ~$130 or ~$170. It's a long time ago and I have a fuzzy memory as I wasn't buying much Lego and definitely no PT stuff then (A cheap V-wing seems to have been the downfall of that rule and has been a bain to my wallet ever since). my recollection is looking at it on the shelf and thinking that's a cool set but no way am I paying that much for so little Lego. I also remember not having seen it anywhere else and that I never saw it again (I think there was only one). Not as bad as passing up the UCS X-wing from K-mart when they had them for $100 but still a slight regret now. Enough Nostalgia anyway. @AoNZ: was the V-19 sale or clearance (do you know) and which Toyworld. I've been eyeing it up for a long time and still haven't got it. Kids, Lego, & their parents: for you youngsters, I have to say that it doesn't always get easier when you grow up. Wives have a tendency to tell you the same things. Particularly: "you don't need it"; "you spend too much on Lego"; "you have too much"; and the dreaded "you should sell some first" I can't wait for my daughter to be old enough to build Lego as it will somewhat justify parts of my collection (and future purchases). I have a feeling that, if I wasn't thinking of my kid/kids to come, I'd get rid of most of my PT stuff. (But OTOH, if it wasn't for Kids I'd have more money and space for my stuff.) As a Parent I will say they are probably right. There's a big difference between wants and needs, and Lego is addictive, especially with the way they are pumping out such good sets at such a fast pace in recent years... it's not until you pay all of your own way then they lose their say somewhat. P.S. if you guys are interested, for a bit of fun I've tried to catalogue my life-long Lego collection (to the best of my recollection) at brickset. I'm only sure about things that are post '99. While I've included pre '99 sets, it's all been in storage at my folks house since then, so I'm working from memory. Therefore there are a few sets I may have missed and not 100% sure that I have *all* of the older sets I've listed. anyway: http://www.brickset.com/search/?ownedBy=knightlyknight P.P.S. Huck, I would like the Juno eclipse and, as you know already, the Hoth troopers, I'll PM you an offer soon as I get stuff sorted round here. P.P.P.S *drool* @ the pics of the new RBR

Fumoffu Posted July 14, 2009 Posted July 14, 2009 Thanks guys for clearing up my confusion on NXT. Can't say I know too much about it and robotics. I went to Kmart at Botany yesterday and found that they are all out of the AT-OT so I wasn't able to check whether my friend was right about it being $299. Plenty of Star Wars, IJ and City sets around. The Crawler Crane been reduced to $85 and I'm tempted to get one. Nice Cloud City battle scene Roncanator.
RileyC Posted July 14, 2009 Posted July 14, 2009 The legs are exclusive to the cloud city set but the torso is found in 7 other sets including the current farm set. Woops! Its kinda weird that the torso can be found in farm sets

Man looking at that Robocup website, it makes me wanna join, but sadly I don't have any NXT stuff , maybe one day ill get some, then I can waste Y'all No I think I'd be abit hopeless Good luck with it legoman and I hope you take home 1st prize at Nationals. And good luck to everyone else here if there entering it BTW where is it held each year? Thanks CommanderFox

You can make robots from whatever you like, as long as they're autonomous. And thanks They have regionals in most citys, then nationals in auckland. If i go to nationals, you auckland folk should come watch!

So don't you have to have any NXT stuff, like the sensors and all that, in your entry? BTW what does autonomous mean Yeah I'd like to come and watch where is it in Auckland? and when is it? Thanks CommanderFox Edited July 14, 2009 by CommanderFox

Thanks CommanderFox Well, I still use the old lego system Robotics invention system. So yeah, i still have sensors and stuff. autonomous means it functions completely by itself. so you can't use a controller or anything, it has to be programed to know what to do.
RileyC Posted July 14, 2009 Posted July 14, 2009 this robot competition thing sounds interesting. Unfortunately I dont have NXT or the older mindstorms stuff
Ravi Posted July 14, 2009 Posted July 14, 2009 (edited) Hey I currently don't have a nxt either but they do sound really intresting. My school recently purchased 4 of these vex robots and have a club type thing on wednesday. I got to go to the nationals but failed misrebly as the programmer programmed using wrong template so when we hooked up our controllers to the playing area our robot wouldn't move. http://www.vexrobotics.com/vex-education.shtml Edited July 15, 2009 by Ravi

Legoman Posted July 15, 2009 Author Posted July 15, 2009 Oh, another death star... I wonder how long thisone will last (hurry up harmacy!)
RileyC Posted July 15, 2009 Posted July 15, 2009 That death star is at a tempting price but I must stick to my lego buying plan
AoNZ Posted July 15, 2009 Posted July 15, 2009 Well that Death Star didn't last long on Trademe. Someone's already bought it and at a good price too I must say.
Dragonator Posted July 15, 2009 Posted July 15, 2009 Dammit, I was totally considering going for that too! She better have another...
