Yeah, I did. But haven't decided yet

I'll get back to you about that soon.

That special announcement from Lego turned out to be a bit of a non-event for me. Free delivery on orders over $110 and a free Lego Star Wars sticker sheet. Hopefully someone will get some mileage out of that.

Posted (edited)

Just ordered the Green Grocer through Lego.com. Figured that $219 delivered direct to my door is pretty sweet. Its always been one of those sets Ive been meaning to get, and there are always a few on TM hovering around the $300 mark, but this free shipping deal was just too good to pass up. Also got an ice-cube tray. Coooool.

The sticker sheet will be a good birthday present for my nephew, and its pretty cool being in the draw for that solid bronze Boba - that thing would be AWESOME to have!!!

I know that the Fire station, Grand Emporium and the Imperial Flagship will be in retail stores in June for $299 each too, so will be ready to lay-by those too:)

I'm not certain, but I think the bronze Boba is US/Canada only :sceptic:

I bought the X-Wing, some PaB and the adjustable PF remote from S@H. Could have bought more and more but had to draw the line somewhere.

I also hope that if Lego sees a significant increase in S@H sales they might change their shipping policy. If they're concerned about sapping sales from the retailers they could limit it to PaB and other exclusive stuff.

Dang it - the Bronze Boba is indeed US/Canada only (Quote from lego.com) Offer open only to residents of the U.S. and Canada ages 13 and up. Perhaps it weighs too much for it to be shipped off the North American Continent:)

Never mind - The sticker sheet is a bonus anyway.

Sounds like a few of us took advantage of the free shipping - Very cool. I wonder if any one REALLY went to town on the offer - ie - Bought a bunch of Death Stars / Taj Mahals / NXT kits etc etc. Actually, now that I mention that, I wonder whether we will see some sales coming through on TM from people who bought lots of stuff and are trying to move it on??

I basically bought what I couldn't have gotten from a retail store and no more. My logic was that the shipping becomes nominal for very large orders. Also TW will have most of the exclusives later on in the year which can be picked up during one of their many 20% off sales.

Still, the anticipation of a large order would be quite fun

I think a lot of stuff will end up on TM, like Home One at just below retail and Green Grocer for much more than retail.

how much do these people make on trademe?

they have to;

1. order from s@h

2.list it on trademe and wait for someone to buy it so the money you have spent on the set is tied up until someone buys it and who know when that is

3.arrange for pickup or package the item and find time to go to the post office which most of the time there is a line and you have to wait

plus

trademe charges a % of the sale which you will have to minus off your profit and you have to deal with bad traders etc...

so how much would you make $5,10,20,50 or $100? and is it really worth all the time you spent?

for me i think there are easier ways to make money without all the hassle and without having your $ tied up on lego sets

anyways i'm the same, i only order the sets we cant get here since the ones we can get here normally goes on sale or you can laybuy them and pay it off

I suspect they don't order from S@H but either purchase kits themselves when overseas on other business (a la Legoman here....thanks btw) , or have family/friends/contacts overseas who will purchase and send to NZ. If so, then you don't have to factor TLG's exorbitant shipping into the equation, and if good friends/family may not have to factor in much of exchange rate mark-ups either (particularly if they aren't aware that you are selling it on, and think they're buying you presents - cynical me...lol).

THe other thing I've seen in watching TM, is the increase in sets listed when sales are on - e.g. when TW was selling the 6242 soldiers fort kit for $49 last month, a large number of them suddenly appeared on TM priced @ $75....

And I agree, for LEGO that in production, there are cheaper ways and places than TM to get it.

<snip>

Personally I don't sell on TM for profit; however it must be worth their while and I suppose if you have everything streamlined and know what you're doing it can be an efficient and profitable process. The only annoying aspect is that TM is so clogged up with overpriced new Lego that searching for vintage Lego becomes quite time-consuming.

Prince of Persia seen at Toyworld today. Everything seems to be one price point higher than it should be...

Apparently the 'minifigures' collectibles are going to available from August. Why are they taking so long to get here?

Posted

Regarding the collectible minifigs, who out there is interested in them to just collect the whole set, and who are only interested in certain minifigs?

Myself, while I wouldn't object to having the whole set, I am really interested in getting forestmen figs (for my castle collection), along with some of the female (nurse, cheerleader) figs. (although if I ended up getting a lot of Zombies......Dawn of the Dead City beckons....lol)

What is everyone else after???

Cheers

You could always wait for them to come out in Australia later this month and have someone ship you a case full...

Ah yes, looking forward to those.

Hmmm, it would appear I missed the free shipping, how aggravating. Ah well.

Re: Selling on Trademe. I used to import Lego from the website to sell. Many reasons but here are some!

1) Money tied up in lego is NOT a bad thing. If I got stuck with it, so be it. Its LEGO!

2) Profit was reasonable, starting at around 25% and going up to 200% depending on the item.

3) I would spend around 2000$ at a time. You could reasonably expect 3500$ return on that over a period of 6 months but realistically I would keep 1000$ for myself and sell the rest to pay for my habit.

Now I work at Toyworld and have access to good staff discounts, so I limit my sales to that which I no longer need. (Conflict of interest otherwise!) The other reason for stopping was I could'nt bring myself to sell half the stuff!

(I still have 8 chess sets in my cupboard.... Sigh)

Also - Re: Free postage. That was excellent. I ordered some fairy keyrings and the collectible minifig sets to the value of 110$... Very cool!

200% profit is well worth the trouble and if that profit can buy more lego then why not hahaha

i'm guessing the staff discount would be cost + 10% +GST? and if its like everything else in retail you should be able to pick things up about half price or under

That isn't brown, that's dark red.

Bricklink shows that the part does not exist in brown (none in any sets in the BL database, none for sale and none listed for the price guide)
