Legoman Posted October 1, 2010 Author Posted October 1, 2010 (edited) I was at a Farmers yesterday, and they were raising the prices (for the new GST) rather than dropping them. Really? I went to my local farmer's yesterday and snabed a New Slave 1 for $140 (30% off w/Farmers card) Decided against Palpitines shuttle, as it was only down to $105, and I didn't want to pay over $100 for that one, seeing as the Bricklink bill to make the set decent will be quite a bit And JP, nice to see you around again Haven't seen any on clearance yet, But I'm expecting to see some soon, as the sets aren't selling well at all Saw today that Warehouse has 8401 City Minifigures for $4 down from $12 (RRP $15!!) Bargain. That's like, over 70% off! Crazy... Edited October 1, 2010 by Legoman
jp-30 Posted October 1, 2010 Posted October 1, 2010 (edited) Yeah, I've been quiet for a while as no budget for LEGO, so avoiding the websites so I don't get tempted. 4 collectible minfigs is all I've bought in the last 8 months or so (and 2 of them were ******* weightlifters). Also, heads up everyone... sign up at Toyworld (or update your details if you're already a member) to get a 20% off voucher + go in the draw for $100 gift card. http://www.toyworld.co.nz/twclub.html Edited October 1, 2010 by jp-30
David Thomsen Posted October 1, 2010 Posted October 1, 2010 I've been collecting the civilian cars from the City range, but Lego have got into this habit of bundling all the cars with things I don't really need. First the taxi with the train station, and next year they're going to have three civilian vehicles with large police vehicles I don't need. I need to figure out a strategy for acquiring the civilian vehicles when someone else can have the rest of it. If I bought the train station set and sold polybag #2 with instruction booklet #2 and the relevant stickers on TradeMe, is anyone likely to bid for that, and am I likely to make much of a loss? I realise that I'm always going to end up having spent more than the taxi is worth whatever I do, but I'm willing to do that if the numbers are within reason. The other option is that someone might be willing to buy the train station and sell me the taxi?

Bought 18 so far The other option is that someone might be willing to buy the train station and sell me the taxi? How much would you pay for taxi? PS. Am moving to Wellington to live in 1 1/2 weeks. Would love to meet other LEGO fans. Also thinking maybe we could start up a Wellington LUG ?
CommanderFox Posted October 1, 2010 Posted October 1, 2010 and they were raising the prices (for the new GST) rather than dropping them. WHY?!! Darn the GST rise! Thanks for the tip JP! And Nice to have you back! CF
David Thomsen Posted October 2, 2010 Posted October 2, 2010 How much would you pay for taxi? I think the taxi with two minifigures would be worth about $20 on its own, so maybe $30, plus whatever shipping is required? If I go too high, it will kind of defeat the purpose of buying partial sets to save money. It's the only set with the white girder pieces, so that might be a reason to want the station but not the taxi... Did anyone go to the Coastlands Lego show? I might go along if the weather is nice enough. PS. Am moving to Wellington to live in 1 1/2 weeks. Would love to meet other LEGO fans. Also thinking maybe we could start up a Wellington LUG ? I've tried to get involved in hobby communities before, I tend to be lazy to attend more than one meeting when I have video games at home.
Dragonator Posted October 2, 2010 Posted October 2, 2010 Did anyone go to the Coastlands Lego show? I might go along if the weather is nice enough. Definitely come along, I'm up there helping run things, as is Harmancy, and it is a lot of fun just to talk to people about Lego! Plus there are some cool MOCs on display: my castle, a train layout, Quiditch Pitch, and lots of neat stuff from the kids (since it is a building competition, after all). Show opens at 10am tomorrow, with the prizegiving at 3pm. Make sure you all come along and vote for entry number one please! I'll be taking lots of photos tomorrow, so I will make sure I post a few on here later on.

I have 2 spare City corner buses if you want them :P Do you have one in a sealed polybag? I'm one of those pedants who likes things to be new when I get them... also I've never bought anything outside of Ebay and Trademe before, so I'm not sure how payment and stuff works.
Dragonator Posted October 3, 2010 Posted October 3, 2010 The show up at Kapiti went really well, we had close to 200 people there for the prize giving, and the voting for people's choice was very closely contested between my castle, a very large HP Quiditch Pitch, and a train layout. The train layout won that one, but I won the adult category, which was a nice bonus, got myself an Apple Tree House as a prize, which was neat. We gave away piles of posters and header cards (cardboard banners) as well, so everyone went away with something cool. I even got a Lego soccer ball as part of my prize! All in all a very successful event, with 74 entries all up. I'll try and get some photos up later on which I took today.
harmacy Posted October 3, 2010 Posted October 3, 2010 The show up at Kapiti went really well..... And I second that! The show was lots of fun, and some fantastic entries. Hopefully next year we will see some more EB members come on in too. Looking forward to the photos!

Also thinking maybe we could start up a Wellington LUG ? Well done Wellington LUG eh? I wonder if we'd have enough CHCH people for a LUG... It would probably be worth it with the Whole LUGBulk system. I've tried to get involved in hobby communities before, I tend to be lazy to attend more than one meeting when I have video games at home. They'll go up to what they're worth. The Modular Collection, on the other hand, Is a insane price We should look at having an EBNZ Event each year

Do you think it will be around the same date next year? It really depends on when and where we can find a suitable space to hold it, so nothing confirmed yet. We definitely want to hold one at some point next year though, once we have something confirmed Harmancy or I will make sure it is passed on in here.
MagPiesRUs Posted October 4, 2010 Posted October 4, 2010 Sounds like you had a lot of fun, I'm looking forward to those pics. I wish I'd have gone now, I remember it was good the year I went (2008, I think?).
Callum Posted October 5, 2010 Posted October 5, 2010 I just skimmed over the thread, is everyone aware that The Warehouse has %30 off Star Wars lego starting tomorrow? Cheers :) Callum

RileyC Posted October 5, 2010 Posted October 5, 2010 So has the GST increase to 15% really effected the price of lego a lot? Or is it only just a few dollars?
Dragonator Posted October 5, 2010 Posted October 5, 2010 Kingdoms sets are supposedly coming in to Toyworld this week, I'm excited! If anybody sees them please let us know!
Callum Posted October 6, 2010 Posted October 6, 2010 So has the GST increase to 15% really effected the price of lego a lot? Or is it only just a few dollars? It's $2.5 per 100$, so no, not worth worrying about. some stores will absorb the increase for the most part anyway.
Legoman Posted October 6, 2010 Author Posted October 6, 2010 It's $2.5 per 100$, so no, not worth worrying about. some stores will absorb the increase for the most part anyway. For lego, stores should just be taking it in their stride - Lego sets generally have a markup of 90-150% depending on the store's contract with Lego
Legoman Posted October 6, 2010 Author Posted October 6, 2010 (edited) Don't usually like to double post, but I've intresting come across this place Some of you may know more about this, but I've certainly never heard about it until now! Edited October 6, 2010 by Legoman
