Okay, this is my first topic ever, so hello everyone. I'm Orion. Now onto the subject of this topic.

I'm a big Avatar fan, so when the show's last season was over, I was kinda upset. I've been looking around, to see if there were any rumors about a new season being planned, when I stumbled across this article on Wikipedia (here's a link: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_last_airbender ):

Feature film

On January 8, 2007, Paramount Pictures' MTV Films and Nickelodeon Movies announced that they have signed M. Night Shyamalan to write, direct and produce a trilogy of live-action films based on the series; the first of these films will encompass the main characters' adventures in Book One.[59] The film was in a dispute with James Cameron's film Avatar regarding title ownership,[60] which resulted in the film being titled The Last Airbender. It is set for release on July 2, 2010.[61] Shyamalan was attracted to the series because of its inspiring martial arts and spiritual theme,[62] after being introduced to the program by his children. Filming will begin in March 2009 and take place in Philadelphia and Greenland. Producer Frank Marshall stated the film may be moved to later in 2010 or even to early 2011, and that some filming could happen in the Far East.[63]

According to an interview with the co-creators in SFX Magazine, Shyamalan came across Avatar when his daughter wanted to be Katara for Halloween. Intrigued, Shyamalan researched and watched the series with his family. "Watching Avatar has become a family event in my house ... so we are looking forward to how the story develops in season three," said Shyamalan. "Once I saw the amazing world that Mike and Bryan created, I knew it would make a great feature film."[64]

Avatar co-creators Mike DiMartino and Bryan Konietzko have come forward to voice their opinion within an interview regarding M. Night Shyamalan writing, directing and producing the film. The two displayed much enthusiasm over Shyamalan's decision for the adaptation, stating that they admire his work and, in turn, he respects their material.[65] M. Night Shyamalan said he will write the second film while preparing to shoot the first.[66] James Newton Howard, who has composed all of Shyamalan's films since The Sixth Sense, will compose The Last Airbender.[67]

Shyamalan originally offered the roles of Aang to karate-trained Texan Noah Ringer; Sokka to Jackson Rathbone (Twilight); Katara to Nicola Peltz (Deck the Halls); and Zuko to Jesse McCartney.[68] The casting of white actors triggered negative fan reaction marked by accusations of racism, a letter-writing campaign, and a protest outside of a Philadelphia casting call for movie extras.[69][70][71][72] Rathbone dismissed the complaints, saying "I think it's one of those things where I pull my hair up, shave the sides, and I definitely need a tan. It's one of those things where, hopefully, the audience will suspend disbelief a little bit."[73] In February 2009, Dev Patel replaced McCartney, whose tour dates conflicted with a boot camp scheduled for the cast to train in martial arts.[74][75]

I'd expect this to boost Avatar's fan count, and was wondering if Lego might restart their Avatar line, so it could tie-in with the movie? I really missed not getting Lego's two Avatar sets, and thought this might be a great way to get new sets!

Anyways, none of this is based on any evidence from TLG, it's not even rumored, it's all my imagination. Feel free to discuss.

Also, if you want, you can post what episodes you think would make great sets. I'd enjoy reading those alot.

That information has been around for ages. They start filming later this year, but I doubt they'll make LEGO sets now, because the first 2 didn't do so well (although I loved them). Plus, there's not much to make, since the movie is based on the first season of Avatar, LEGO has seen the episodes for Season 1 already, but they only chose to make two sets, why would they remake something they have already done?

Plus, I don't think LEGO is going to sign anymore licenses. They still have Indy, Star Wars, and I hope Batman appears in 2010, and of course the newly acquired Disney, and the release of LEGO Universe, PLUS their own castle, space, pirates lines. I doubt they would have time for more. Unless of course the Spongebob license (or is it a Nickolodeon license) also allows them to work with Avatar, then there might be some hope.

Not to burst your bubble or anything, I'm a huge fan of avatar too, I hope they make characters like Toph and Azula into minifigs. But realistically? Doesn't seem possible, or profitable, it would just be Speed Racer all over again.

Yeah, I guess you're right. Oh well, I can still dream!

Batman in 2010? I thought that discussion was over and that the Batman line had been proclaimed dead a while ago...

As for Avatar... TLC doesn't seem eager to renew licences once they've ended. Look at Spider-Man. Still, I suppose it is a possibilty. Unlikely though it may be.

Lego has just signed a big deal with Disney and Megabloks with Nickelodeon - now I don't know if the live action movie of Avatar will still be a Nickelodeon producion or not, but it looks like chances are slim. Of course I would run to the stores if there were new Avatar sets - even though that will be little use if they use the same marketing strategy as last time with Avatar (only two sets, release them in only two countries and take them out again soon after release -wonder why the sets weren't a succes!).

We have already discussed this over at the Avatar Fan Thread. However, we did not get into detail about possible sets. So, I guess this thread doesn't need to be closed.

As I said in the Avatar thread, I am highly skeptic about how good these movies will be, considering how marvelous the cartoon was. It is already starting to get negative vibes due to the casting. So, it really depends on how popular these movies end up being if we get more Avatar sets or not. :sceptic:

But either way, it would definitely be awesome if this theme would be revived! :cry_happy: As Hickley's recent raffle showed, there is still much potential in the Avatar theme!

I don't know how much sense it makes to talk about which episodes we would like see sets from since future sets (if there are any) will be based on the movies, which will probably be summaries of the three different "Books" and wont encompass all of the episodes. But since we don't know which episodes they will include, I guess there is no harm in speculating. :classic:

One of my favorite episodes is "The Northern Air Temple". That is mainly due to the fact that there were so many cool, original vehicles in that episode. And we all know that TLC loves to base sets around vehicles, so I think this is definitely a possibility! Also, the battle that took place there was one of the major events of the show, so I'm almost sure they'll include it in the movie.

Btw, have you seen this? :sweet: This might open up some set possibilities as well, but right now, it's more of a rumor than anything confirmed.

Lego has just signed a big deal with Disney and Megabloks with Nickelodeon

What? Megabloks has a Nick license now? :look:

Oh no! Don't tell that that means - dare I say it? - Avatar Megabloks!?! :pir_bawling:

Er, more Avatar? And M. Night Shymalan directing? I don't think so.

I wasn't a fan of the cartoon, and with live action, it does NOT seem like a good idea for Lego sets. But I could be wrong, and I hope I am. The 2 sets did have some good oriental parts, so other sets probably would be as good, if not better.

I'm open to more Avatar sets, not that I would buy them for anything but parts.

now that batman is gone, the BL market for the sets and mfs went through the roof. if there is still a huge demand a few years from now, i can see how TLG might consider bringing batman back.

avatar though is still kinda unpopular. it's unlikely to be revived.

Meh, I hate Nickelodeon AND Disne. So essentially I hate the new liscensing. Why oh why no Hasbro Transformers liscence? :cry_sad:

If they do release more Avatar sets, I will surley ignore them. Not my thing. Please don't lego. (Guess I'm a pessimest :P)

aaawwwwwhhhhhhhhhh mannnnnn!! not again. he sets were ok but there is such thing as too muchh

Ummm tell that to the SW fans [who have like 3 X-Wings, Slave Is, and Millenium Falcons]. Two sets is not too much at all.

A good point but I dont think it is worth it for two sets. If they revive the license it would be like drinking air, completely pointless.

I seriously doubt that there will be any new Avatar sets from LEGO.

1. The failure of previously released LEGO Avatar sets.

2. The License agreement between Nickelodeon and Mega Blocks. And I doubt that LEGO still owns the Avatar license.

Due to MB/Nick license agreement I find it likely that we'll se Mega Blocks releasing Avatar/The Last Airbender sets.

Regarding batman I've heard that there are no plans for new Batman sets. But a new LEGO Batman game might change this.

Do we really need a new one (oh, what am I saying!? ) TLC'd better give us sets based on the old one! :cry_happy:

Mad Hatter, new goods, Man-Bat, new vehicles.... ) :cry_happy:

I really hope that they renew the line after Batman: Arkham Asylum, DC Online, the third Nolan film, hit the shelves! ) :sweet::thumbup:

Speaking of Avatar, I guess it's high time TLC stops making anime-based things.... Lego has it's own style, really. ) *dodging a tomato*

Good day, gentlemen! ) :sweet:

P.S.

As it says in the article, it would seem that fans were "disgusted" by alleged racism. Besides, TLC has already, I think, lost the license, or they'd of made more sets in the theme.

Rather like bending air. Not pointless at all!

Mirandir , I think it was a failure because the sets were never available in the first place except here and there in one or two countries. The target group of Avatar is more or less exactly Lego's target group for playsets, they could have made much more out of it then one stunning big and one mediocre little set.

Sorry everyone, I hadn't seen that the movie information had already been discussed.

I think the sets could have done better, if they had been easier to acquire, and if they had been released later. When they were released I didn't even know what Avatar was, and thought the sets sounded a bit weird. Now, the show's a big hit, and people are spending 200 bucks to get the sets. Which brings me to a question that I was hoping you guys could help me out with. Does anyone know where I can get the Avatar sets for less than $80? I've looked everywhere, and am afraid I won't be able to get my hands on the sets, due to the high prices, plus overseas shipping. If anyone knew a place that sells them rather cheap, that'd be great.

I would love sets from the Sozin's Comet episodes. Like when the White Lotus guys (don't know their name in English, as the show is in Spanish where I live... XP) are trashing the Fire Lord's army, or a Fire Nation war balloon set! Maybe a set from when Aang duels with Toph (the episode where they first met). It could have little nobs and stuff that make rocks fly out of the ground, or giant rock waves or something. That'd be nice.

Thats not really a fair comparision. Star Wars has a much, much larger fan base than Avatar probbly ever will. But thats not to say that there wouldn't be a posibility of new avatar sets. If theres enough interest and lego feels its profitable, then it could posibility be revamped.

Are you familiar with Bricklink? The Fire nation ship goes between 46 and 67 dollars. The Air temple set between 35 and 54 euros. It does depend a bit on where you are - some sellers don't ship to all countries (though you can always ask politely but if you are a new buyer it's unlikely they will change their policies for you...)

I managed to get both sets through Bricklink for 105 euros including postage from the US to Holland. (I think 65 euros for the two sets and 40 for shipping)

What?! Nooo

I'm gonna have nightmares tonight :cry_sad:

I doubt Mega Bloks will pick them up. There's other companies, too, like Kubricks, and Art Asylum, as well as K'nex.

We just don't know, because nothing has been announced yet.
