Seriously, that's why I bought two more recently; now I have two for upstairs, and two for down!

If anyone wants it, you can now download the .ldr file here and make your own!

Note, MLCAD doesn't have the letter tiles in the inventory so I've used black tiles as a substitute - you'll have to find your own and replace them when you build your copy. Also, the .ldr file does not include the actual brick separator.

Hehe, I use a knife. It works good, though it sometimes damages the bricks a little but not so that it matters a lot. The brick separator looks cool and easy to use. Might pick it up if I get a chance to.

Brick separator all the way for me.

No scratches and the pointy ends can pry themselves in where the brickseparator can't.

I still use my fingers for almost all brick separation, but for the hard cases I'll use brick separators. I also find that it is usefull to have two for certain jobs. I use a guitar pick for removing tiles, but found out recently that a brick separator will remove tiles as well!

I'll have to try out a guitar pick, seeing as I have a couple at home. (I used to play guitar.)

EDIT: The guitar pick works great for separating the flat pieces off studs! Thanks for the tip!

Definitely get at least 2. My wife and I are both builders, and we've got a dozen Lego brick seperators (they get lost easy). Plus 5 MB brick seperators, plus about 8 K'nex brick separators (excellent for curved topped elements, where a standard separator has no edge to press against.

I got two which was included in the Wild Hunters set, the Lion Creator set (one seperator in each set).

I rarely used them, as I mostly put stuff together, and don't sperate. Too busy building

I had atleast 3 of those from my childhood, I still have one which I use for seperating plates mostly. I use my knife for the tiles, very carefull tho. I find the brick separator limited in use but I won't doubt using it if I need it because it really comes in handy from time to time. Deffinatly a must-have, at least 1.

It appears all brick separators nowadays are green? I only know the grey ones?! I there a difference?

I use the brick separator quite often. But if in hurry, then nails and teeth might be a quicker (and more destructible) way. Sometimes you need knife to get two large plates separated. I have over half dozen separators but some of them have worn out.

If your pieces are constantly getting stuck, then I would consider buying one.

I have several, and they've been very useful for me when I'm building MOCs.

I got a brick separator years ago out of a M******ks ProBuilder set. The set was a present from a well-meaning but misguided relative and gave the set away to a nephew but kept the brick separator. I think it might be the best thing MB have ever made!! It works a treat on all sorts of combos of Lego pieces and has not done any damage in the 6 or 7 years I have had it,.

I actually think it is ridiculous that they sell the Creator houses without brick separators. Without a separator, getting all those 1x1 tiles off the baseplate would be a really frustrating task. Getting tiles off of plates is my #1 use for brick separators. Besides that, I mainly use the separator for separating plates of equal size that are stacked, especially 1x2 and 2x2 plates.

I've purchased close to 300 LEGO sets and I've never had a brick separator. Then a few weeks ago, I was sorting through some bricks that we had purchased for our daughter when she was much younger, one of the bucket sets, and lo and behold I found a brick separator. It now maintains a permanent spot at my disassemble station and my fingernails and fingertips have been grateful ever since.

I avoid stacking plates, and putting plates on top of other plates unless they overlap a second plate which makes removal much easier. I sometimes use the brick seperator, but I also use this separator from Bandai. Got it for free with one of the sets. It works great with lego do. Dunno if its less or more damaging than the brick separator.

It doesn't look like it would damage bricks too badly, but I don't think its a good idea to wedge another piece of plastic in between two bricks and then twist to get them apart. That's why I like the brick separator, it grips the studs, and uses those to pull it off.

Oops didn't realize this was an old topic. I saw this link in another thread. Well you don't have to twist. Twisting is just for the gundam model pieces because those are snap built so its quite difficult to remove the pieces otherwise.

For the lego, I just use the same message as the brick separator. Just stick in between and push down/up.
